MATERIAL STANDARDS FOR OVERHEAD NETWORKS

RA7-112
Transformer Support

1. SCOPE

The standard is part of the group of standardized materials and has as its fundamental purpose
determine all the characteristics that the hardware and accessories to be used must have
installed in the energy distribution system of Empresas Públicas de Medellín E.S.P.

This standard includes the requirements and characteristics that the transformer support must meet.
installed on pole.

2. FUNCTION

The support structure for the transformer has the main function of keeping the transformer away from
the facades and walls in order to comply with safety distances.

3. CHARACTERISTICS

The support essentially consists of a U-shaped or channel-shaped arm, a main plate.

support of the transformer, a fixing strap to the pole, and a tube that serves as a foot support
structure.

3.1 Material

The main plate, the fixing plate, and the U-shaped or channel profile will be made of steel.
structural.

The pipe will be made of carbon steel (schedule 10).

All elements will be hot-dip galvanized according to the NTC 2076 standard.

The welding will be 7018, tensile strength SIA 57 kg/mm2. The yield strength will be from 42 to 47
kg/mm2elongation to 50 mm from 24 to 28%. A uniform, continuous, free bead must be guaranteed.
from bites and slag incrustations. Its application will be according to the ASME code.

3.2 Geometric or dimensional

The dimensions and geometric characteristics of the support will be as specified in the drawing that
it is included in the standard. Structures that geometrically deviate from the standard will not be accepted.
for inclinations or deviations.

The vertical of the plate measured at its ends should not deviate more than 3°.

3.5 Finishing and coating

The supports will be fully hot-dip galvanized and must comply with the
specifications provided in standard NTC 2076. They must be free of bubbles, areas without
coating, slag deposits, black spots, excoriations, and other types of inclusions that
may cause interference in the specific use of the product. For contaminated areas, it

The profiles and strips must be made of a single piece, free of welding, free of deformations,
cracks and sharp edges, rolling defects. Bends and burrs are not allowed in the areas
of cut, perforated or punched.

4. ESSAYS

4.1 Dimensional

The dimension verification will be done with the measuring instruments that provide the approximation.
required (metal tape with divisions of 1 mm for lengths and caliper for diameters and
thicknesses). The tolerances in the width and thickness of the profile must comply with the
standard NTC 402.

The tolerances of the profiles will be:

For the width and thickness of the profile:± 5%.

Diameter of the holes:± 5%.
Other dimensions:± 1%.

4.2 Mechanics

The tensile test will be conducted in accordance with the NTC 2 standard. The bending test will be performed
according to the NTC 1 standard.

The support for the transformer must be designed with the same safety features.
that have support devices to hang the transformer. These devices have a
safety factor equal to 5.

The support for the transformer will be subjected, among others, to the same test referenced in the
number 6.5 of the NTC 3609 standard (Mechanical Tests on Distribution Transformers). For
in this case the maximum weight of the transformer to be installed will be 450 kg.
