Candidate are required to give their answers in their own words as far as practicable

Group-A (Very Short Answer Type Question)

1. Answer any ten of the following : [ 1 x 10 = 10 ]
(I) If same yarn is used for both warp and weft, maximum fabric thickness is----
(II) For a square plane cloth, maximum cloth cover factor is
(III) Air permeability of a fabric is measured at a constant pressure drop across the fabric of------
(IV) Limited oxygen Index test is done to asses------
(V) In a Shirley stiffness tester, the bending length of a fabric sample equals to 1.5 cm. The fabric overhang length is
(VI) As compared to cotton fabric, the crease recovery for woolen fabric is
(VII) During bursting strength test, fabric fails across the direction which has
(VIII) Indian standard atmospheric conditions for textile testing are_____.
(IX) With an increase in the friction between the yarns, the tear strength of a fabric will
(X) The bending length of a fabric is measured using---
(XI) A launderometer is used to measure_____.
(XII) What is the GSM (g/m2) of a square jammed plain cloth made from 20 tex cotton yarns of 0.17 mm diameter?

Group-B (Short Answer Type Question)

Answer any three of the following : [ 5 x 3 = 15 ]
2. Show that for a square plane cloth, maximum crimp is 21 %. [5]
3. Explain the influence of various parameters on tear strength of a fabric. [5]
4. The porosity of a worsted suiting fabric is 75 %. Find out the thermal conductivity of fabric. Assume [5]
conductivity of air is 0.025 W/mK and that of wool fibre is 0.1 W/mK.
5. Low stress mechanical properties are used for objective evaluation of fabric handle. Explain why? [5]
6. Find out the density of a square jammed plain cotton cloth in Kg/m3 by assuming that the cloth is made [5]
of 20 tex yarns whose average tenacity is 12 cN/tex at standard testing conditions. If the fabric was tested
for strength using strip test method has the following particulars: width of strip = 25 mm, length of strip =
300 mm, gauge length = 200 mm. Assuming 140 % strength translations from yarns to fabric, calculate
the apparent fabric strength.

Group-C (Long Answer Type Question)

Answer any three of the following : [ 15 x 3 = 45 ]
7. Explain in details the objective measurement of fabric handle with neat sketches. [ 15 ]
8. Explain in details the measurement of fabric thermal conductivity with neat sketch. [ 15 ]
9. Explain in details the measurement of fabric drape with neat sketch. [ 15 ]
10. Explain in details the measurement of flammability test of fabric with neat sketch. [ 15 ]
11. Explain in details the measurement of fabric wicking with neat sketch. [ 15 ]
