ITA2 Modbus Communication Protocol

1. MODBUS/JBUS RTU OVERVIEW

This Modbus/Jbus RTU protocol is connected to the RJ45 terminal of the ITA2 via
the RS485 interface. RS485 can connect multiple UPS into a bus.
Through this agreement, you can access UPS in MODBUS RTU system or JBUS
RTU system, because JBUS RTU is a subset of MODBUS RTU, and the function is
compatible.

1.1 Hardware config

BaudRate: 9600
Start bit: 1
Data bits: 8
Stop bit: 1
Parity bit: None

1.2 Software config

When using this protocol, UPS acts as a communication slave role and waits for
the MODBUS/JBUS host to query.

1.3 Function list

This section describes the queries and commands that UPS can respond to. The
following queries and commands are available:
 query:UPS system parameter FuncCode 03 ,Block read mode
 query:UPS Analog quantity FuncCode 03 ,Block read mode
 query:UPS State quantity FuncCode 03 ,Block read mode
 query:UPS Warn quantity FuncCode 03 ,Block read mode
 query:UPS system config FuncCode 03 ,Block read mode
 setup:UPS system config FuncCode 06 ,Word write mode

1.4 CRC check description

This protocol uses the standard calculation method of MODBUS RTU CRC16, and
the check sequence is (HIGH, LOW).

1.5 Data format description

- HEX 16 decimal format, 1 or 2 bytes

(value 1000 = 0x03E8, i.e.: Low = 0xE8; high = 0x03)

- HEX NIBBLE 16 decimal format, 2 or 4 bytes

(value 1000 = 0x03E8, i.e.: Low = 0x38,0x3E,0x33; high = 0x30)

页 3 / 22
ITA2 Modbus Communication Protocol

- ASCII ASCII code format, 1 or more bytes

(For example, the data string = '1234567890A', which is expressed as =
0x31,0x32,0x33,..., 0x39,0x30,0x41)

2. MODBUS/JBUS RTU Protocol parameter

The MODBUS/JBUS RTU contains the following 5 parameters:

ID. Address: address of UPS in MODBUS/JBUS RTU network

(range 1-247, default = 1)

CRC Checksum sequence Range H-L

Baud Rate Range 9600 (default = 9600)

Parity No range (can only be set to no parity)

StopBit Range 1 (can only be set to 1)

The ID in the above parameters can be set up through the LCD panel, and the communication
parameters should be consistent when the background software communicates with them.

3. UPS system parameter

ID Meaning) Size(byte) Recommended scope / unit Format

1000 UPS Name 10 ASCII Note 1

1005 UPS Software Version 2 DEC Note 2

Because the minimum unit of many quantity is not integer, the integer values of
most analog quantities are read by multiplying 10 or 100. And this mothod can
describe the higher precision of analog quantity.
