ACTION PLAN

For my project on Leadership based on the chapter Indigo, I first decided

to focus on Mahatma Gandhi’s role as a leader in the Champaran movement. I
began by carefully reading the chapter and noting down the qualities of
leadership that stood out, such as courage, truth, and service to humanity. To
strengthen my understanding, I also planned to gather extra information from
reference books and online sources about Gandhian leadership. After collecting
the material, my next step was to analyse Gandhi’s strategies and compare them
with leadership in the present day. Once I had clarity on the content, I worked
on organizing the project with proper sections like aims, objectives,
introduction, and findings. I also decided to make my work more creative by
adding charts, quotations, and examples that highlight Gandhi’s leadership
qualities. Finally, I reviewed my project to ensure it was neat, error-free, and
ready for submission.

REPORT

This project on Leadership based on the chapter Indigo focuses on the

exemplary qualities of Mahatma Gandhi during the Champaran movement. The
chapter portrays Gandhi not as a political figure seeking power, but as a leader
committed to truth, justice, and service to the oppressed. His courage to defy
unjust laws, his ability to inspire confidence among the poor farmers, and his
firm belief in non-violence highlight the essence of true leadership. Gandhi’s
approach showed that a leader does not impose authority but rather guides
people by setting a moral example and awakening their inner strength.

The project also explores how Gandhian leadership stands apart from
conventional notions of dominance and control. Instead of relying on force or
fear, Gandhi relied on truth, patience, and persistence to achieve justice for the
peasants. His success in Champaran marked the beginning of India’s first civil
disobedience movement, proving that ethical leadership has the power to
transform society.

Furthermore, the study connects Gandhian leadership with modern times,

showing that qualities such as honesty, responsibility, compassion, and
fearlessness continue to be essential in present-day leaders. The report
emphasizes that leadership is not confined to politics but is equally relevant in
every field of life where individuals work for the welfare of others.

Overall, this project demonstrates that the lesson of Indigo goes beyond
history; it provides a timeless model of leadership based on values rather than
power. It reinforces the idea that true leaders lead by example, inspire others to
act with courage, and bring lasting change through truth and moral conviction.

STUDENT REFLECTION

10
Working on this project gave me an opportunity to explore leadership in a
deeper sense through the chapter Indigo. I realized that leadership is not just
about holding a position of power, but about standing for truth, justice, and the
welfare of others. Studying Mahatma Gandhi’s role in the Champaran
movement made me reflect on how values like honesty, non-violence, patience,
and courage can make a leader truly effective and respected.

The project also helped me develop my own perspective on modern

leadership. I understood that while today’s leaders may face different
challenges, the core qualities that Gandhi demonstrated are still relevant and
necessary. This work encouraged me to think about the qualities of leadership I
should try to cultivate in my own life, such as integrity, responsibility, and
service to others.

On a personal level, preparing this project improved my analytical,

research, and writing skills. It taught me how to connect lessons from history to
the present day and to express ideas more clearly. Overall, this project was not
only an academic exercise but also a valuable life lesson on the power of ethical
and compassionate leadership.
