FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (First Revision) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards after the draft finalized
by the Sanitary AppJiances and Water Fittings SectionalCormnittee hIM! been approved by the Civil Engineering
Division Council.

Looking to the widespread use of rotational mouldedi polyethylene tanks for the stOl'aJe of potable water
in India, the committcc felt the need to bring out BIn IndiBln StBlndard in order to safeguard the user of
such tanks against quality BInd performance requirmats.

This Standard was first published in 1989. In this re'vision of the standard following major modifications
have been made:

- Wan thickness BInd weight of the tanks have been modified based on the feedback from the m8lnufacturers
BInd USCl"S.

- Methods of installation BInd fittings have beel1l made recommendatory 8Ind are separately given at
Annex E.

- Method for carrying out flexural strength test has been modified.

The composition of the technical committee respons:ible for the preparation of this standard is given in
Annex F.

For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requJirement of this standard is complied with. the final
value. observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or 8Inalysis. shall be rounded off in accordance
with IS 2 : 1960 'Rules for rounding off numerical "alues (revised)'. The number of significant places
retained in the rounded off value should be the the :same as that of the specified value in this standard.
