same stitch count you will see the total number of rounds as well as the total number of
total stitches. For example: sc 42 stitches for rows 8-13 (6 rounds). This is a total of 252
stitches (6 rounds x 42 stitches = 252 total stitches).
Use a stitch marker or weave a contrasting length of yarn at the rst stitch of each
round. This will help mark the start of each round. Pull the yarn out after completing the
section of the pattern.
Colour Changing: Change colours on the last sc prior the new colour change round.
For young children it is recommended you stitch the eyes on using black yarn and a
needle. Safety eyes are a choking hazard for small children.

STITCHING THE FLAMINGO TOGETHER
Pin all the parts of the Flamingo together. I like to do this before sewing to make sure I have
everything perfectly aligned. You could also pin and sew one part at a time.
Pin the neck to the body. Make sure you stu the join rmly with bre ll
before closing to ensure the neck sits upright. Use a mattress stitch to close
the neck (see page 21)
Pin the legs in the middle of the body with a gap of 1cm

SEWING TOGETHER
Use the yarn tails and a tapestry
needle to sew all parts together.
Hide your yarn tails.
FACE EMBROIDERY
Sew the eyes to the face. Using a pin, mark out where you want to stitch. Position the eyes
half way down the amingo’s face. Take a length of black yarn and a tapestry needle to
stitch on the eye. Stitch a line at the side of the face. With your needle come back through
the centre of the eye (but one row below). Go up and over the line to secure it down into a
curve. Hide any yarn tails.

MATTRESS STITCH
This is a seaming technique to join pieces of crochet. You will need both pieces of
amigurumi, a length of yarn (a long tail end - same colour as your project) and a tapestry
needle. Align the stitches of the two pieces you are going to join. Insert your needle from
the wrong side through to the right side (going through both loops). Repeat on the other
piece of amigurumi. Go back and forth making a zig zag pattern as seen in image 3. Pull
your thread to close and tighten the stitches. Finish stu ng before closing. Hide any yarn
tails.
