*Bonuses for the film in this blog post include Slideshow to introduce the characters before
watching without spoilers, plus possible post watching interpretive reading/writing & novice speaking ?'s

To implement - Digitally - just copy and use parts you wish to use & post for class
● If you would like ENGLISH comprehension questions, copy pages 1-2 double-sided for novice
students to fill out while watching the movie Coco. Page 4 could be handed out later as a
reflection or assessment.
● If you would like SPANISH comprehension questions, copy pages 1 & 3 double-sided for
intermediate students to fill out while watching the movie Coco. Page 4 could be handed out later
as a reflection or assessment.
● The instructions have been included in both Spanish and English so a non-Spanish-speaking
substitute could implement the plans.
● I personally do not correct the during movie questions but use them as discussion.

What audio and subtitles should I use?

● You can find the movie on Netflix. See how to change the audio and subtitles HERE
● As always, do what works best for your classes. Here is what I personally do:
○ Spanish audio & Spanish subtitles - upper-level students
○ Spanish audio & English subtitles - novice level students
○ English audio - exploratory Spanish or culture class

Optional Extensions - more ideas & resources in this blog post

● Use the bonus materials in this blog post to do a post-movie “everyday IPA” w/ 15 ish minutes
each of reading, speaking, writing related to the film
● Have students make a family tree of the Rivera family & compare it to their own family.
● Research the Day of the Dead. For novice reading in Spanish, you could use Cultural Reading:
Mexico - Geography & Day of the Dead or chat using Muertos - Find Someone Who or use this
Muertos Para Empezar Google Sides
