Intro DIFFICULTY LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE
After the popularity of my Juni Starsuit for babies, I received many requests to turn it into a toddler
version. This pattern differs from my baby starsuit as I have created arm and feet holes seeing as
toddlers move around a lot more. I have also created a ribbed neckline around the hood.
We will create the back piece, 2 x front pieces and a hood then attach everything together.
This adorable little starfish suit is so sweet and fun to make. For beginners it can be a little
complicated but I'm always available to answer questions if you get stuck. Please feel free to
message me on instagram @byrachforshaw.
MATERIALS KEY
Your choice of 8ply cotton yarn in yellow. BLO = Back loop only
(I use brighton from spotlight however the bigger sizes will be MR = Magic Ring
quite heavy so I’d opt for something lighter) ch = Chain
6-12 months 600g | 1-2 years 800g | 2-3 years 1050g ch-sp = Chain space
cont = Continue
dc = Double crochet
Hook size: 4mm
dc2tog = Double crochet 2 stitches together
dec = decrease
Tapestry needle inv = Invisible
rep = Repeat
Scissors rnd = Round
sc = Single crochet
sk = Skip
6 - 8 snap fasteners + spares sl st = Slip Stitch
st = Stitch
Foam mat and pins for blocking (optional) tog = Together
GAUGE SWATCH
17sts x 11rows = 10cm. Worked over double crochets using a 4mm hook.
The tension and yarn can be a huge factor when it comes to sizing. After making the gauge swatch,
please ensure it matches these dimensions. If not you can change hook size or alter the pattern slightly.
3
MEASUREMENTS
To get a good gauge if it will fit your little one, use the shoulder to crotch measurement as
well as the arm to arm measurement. Remember this will stretch. Childrens sizes vary so
much so I apologise these sizes are very broad.
6-12 months
Arm to arm - 72cm
Top of star point to ankle - 82cm
Top of star point to crotch - 61cm
Shoulder to crotch - 38cm
1-2 years
Arm to arm -79cm
Top of star point to ankle - 89cm
Top of star point to crotch - 66cm
Shoulder to crotch - 42cm
2-3 years
Arm to arm - 85cm
Top of star point to ankle - 97cm
Top of star point to crotch - 71cm
Shoulder to crotch - 45cm
As our body proportions start to differ from around age 3, I've kept it simple with these 3
sizes. You are more than welcome to give a larger size a go, just make sure the pentagon is
the length of their torso (shoulder - crotch). Then you will need to change the pattern for
the arms/legs to give you the correct length.

Part Two HEAD POINT

PLEASE NOTE: The starting ch2 on each row equals a dc. This remains the rule
throughout the rest of the pattern as it prevents gaps and keeps the front pieces nice
and straight. You will not place anything else into the st that has a ch2 unless stated.
