1. “Direction is the least important function of management”. Do you agree with


this statement? Give any two reasons in support of your answer.
2. Name the type of formal communication illustrated through following examples:

iii. A production manager may contact marketing manager to discuss about
schedule of product delivery, product design, quality, etc.
3. In an organization, informal communication is stressed instead of formal
communication which results in non-reaching of proper communication to
proper person in proper time. It results in either non-completion or delay in
work. Which values have been violated here?
4. Name the type of formal communication in which the persons of two
departments one at a higher position and another at lower, communicate with
each other? Also state the problem which may arise in this type
of communication.
5. Rahim was working in an enterprise on daily wages basis. It was difficult for him
to fulfill the basic needs of his family. His daughter fell ill. He had no money for
his daughter’s treatment. To meet the expenses of her treatment, he
participated in a cycle race and won the prize money. The cycle company offered
him a permanent pensionable job which he happily accepted.
By quoting the lines from the above para identify the needs of Rahim that are

6. There are some barriers in communication which are concerned with the state
of mind of both the sender and the receiver. State any three such barriers.
7. Hema and Reema are working in different departments, but are very close
friends. During lunch time, Hema informs Reema that due to the upgradation of

satisfied with his life and feels that something is missing. He experiences
roughness and dullness in his life.

19. Ashish is working as a marketing manager in an organization. His subordinate,
Ms. Asha, discussed with him certain sales promotion schemes which would
result in an increase in sales. However, Ashish is pre-occupied with some other

disappointed.

21. 'A.S. Environs Ltd.' is dealing in Environment- Consultancy. To get the business,
the team leader and his team used to travel to different states to give
presentation to their clients. As per the policy of the company, the team leader
used to travel by air whereas his team travelled by road/train. It was not only
time consuming but also at times forced the female team members to travel
alone.
As a result, the subordinates were not acting in a desired manner to achieve
organisational goals. The CEO of the company came to know about it. He called
the team leader, discussed the matter with him and decided to change the travel
policy of the company. It was decided that in future all the members including
the leader would travel together and usefully utilise the travelling time in
discussion about the presentation to be given to the clients. This made a
positive impact, and every member of the team started acting in a manner as
desired by the team leader. State, the features of the element of the function of
management used by the CEO.
22. Ram Murthy, the CEO of ‘Goodcare Hospitals’, a leading chain of hospitals,
decided to reward the good work of the doctors of his organisation. For this he
instituted two running trophies. A ‘Healthcare Achievers Trophy’ to acknowledge
and appreciate the tireless efforts of the doctors who rendered selfless services

to the patients and another ‘Beti Bachao Trophy’ to recognise the outstanding
work done by the doctors in saving the girl child.
The CEO also wanted to improve the health services in rural areas all over the
country. He decided that all doctors must work in rural areas for at least six
months. He also decided that the paramedical staff should be employed locally.

identified in part (a)? State.

23. Mrs. Chhatwal is working as a Human Resource Consultant in a firm
manufacturing garments, which is facing a problem of high employee turnover.
The Managing Director has invited suggestions from her for retaining the
talented employees. Mrs. Chhatwal recommends that the good employees be
rewarded in a way that it creates a feeling of ownership amongst the employees
and at the same time makes them contribute towards the growth of the
organization.

30. Differentiate between formal communication and informal communication?


31. ‘Moga Industries Ltd.’ approached a well established university in the city of
Madurai to recruit qualified personnel for various technical and professional
jobs. They selected Tanya, Ritu, Garima and Chetan for various vacancies in the
organisation.
After the selection and placement, ‘Moga Industries Ltd.’ felt the need to
increase the skills and abilities, and the development of positive attitude of the
employees to perform their specific jobs better. The company also realised that
learning new skills would improve the job performance of the employees.
Hence, the company decided to take action for the same.
a. Name the step of the staffing process regarding which the company
decided to take action.

32. “Human beings cannot be motivated only through monetary incentives; non-
monetary incentives are also necessary to motivate them". Explain any four such
non-monetary incentives.
33. Pratap Singh is the Chief Executive Officer of Nissar Enterprises. It is an
automobile parts manufacturing company. The enterprise has a functional
structure, in which jobs of similar nature have been grouped together as
Production, Finance, Marketing and Human Resource. Nissar Enterprises has its
manufacturing unit at Manesar. The factory has been plagued with many
problems for a long time which was in the knowledge of the Production
Manager, Varun Sharma. The workers had internal differences. Time and again,
there were misunderstandings between the management and the workers.
Keeping the problems in mind, Varun Sharma appointed, Siyaram Singh who
had 14 years of experience of working with the actual work force and passing
on instructions of the middle management to the workers.
Siyaram Singh met Varun Sharma to understand what the management wanted?
Thereafter he met the workers and conveyed the ideas of management to them.
He also promised the workers to convey their problems to the management. In
this way, he cleared the misunderstanding between the management and the
workers. He also sorted out internal differences and was able to unite the
workers within a month of his joining. His work was acknowledged by
management and he was given a certificate of good performance along with
10% increase in salary.

The place is known for its exquisite Mughlai cuisine especially mutton biryani
and kababs. All the food is prepared under Mohan's purview. The various
activities in the kitchen are initiated in accordance to his instructions. He is very
clear and specific in issuing instructions to his subordinates in order to ensure
smooth working of the department. He personally oversees the method
followed by the chefs for preparation of each dish. He misses no opportunity to
praise his subordinates for their good work. All his team members feel very

in order to improve upon its taste and presentation and also encourages them
to innovate and be more creative in their work.
