Raider Pass Offense: Triangle Concept

The document outlines several pass route concepts called the Triangle, Angle, and Snag concepts which involve combinations of post, option, shoot, flat, and other routes. It provides the base assignments and protections for each concept, as well as coaching points for the quarterbacks and receivers on executing the routes properly based on pre-snap and post-snap reads. The concepts are designed to attack curl-flat zones and defeat blitzes with quick rhythm routes.

Pre-snap Progression: Safety Coverage: MOFC or MOFO; CBs: Depth, Eyes, & Leverage; LBs: Drop or Away. Your Pre-snap progression will indicate the type of defense we are facing. Pre-Snap Read: Locate potential CAP on the Rhythm Route and choose the best available UNCAPPED Rhythm Route. Pick the Progression based on pre-Snap Read: Rhythm: Post Read: Option Rush: Shoot / Flat Release: Backside B Gap Post-Snap Read: Stay with your progression for any CAPPED Route will serve as a look off. Use the R4 Accelerators: Rhythm: Post- If CUSHION or CAPPED then hitch step to Option Route. Read: Option- If COLLISION or CAPPED, then hitch step to Shoot/Flat route. Rush: Shoot/Flat- If CAPPED then Release. Release: Backside B Gap.

The Triangle Concept Learning Points

Overview: This concept serves as one of many ways to attack curl and flat defenders who might have trouble matching up with the inside receiver. Also, it serves as a prime combination in defeating that blitz because of its quick rhythm.

Developmental Points
Re c Frontside
Post: It is important you either wins over the top or lift the top of the coverage structure, thereby causing an isolation of the flat defender. Explode to a depth of 14 yards, sprint for four steps out of the break, and turn your eyes to the sky, anticipating the ball at a depth of 40 yards and aiming at the near upright of the goalpost. The goal of the frontside outside receiver in this pattern is to take two deep defenders with you. Option: Release vertically to a depth 12 yards. If the man over you takes a zone drop, your route becomes an outside Curl route. If the man over you plays a man-to-man technique, you must head and shoulder fake and roll & break out at 14 yards.

Backside
Post: It is important you either wins over the top or lift the top of the coverage structure, thereby causing an isolation of the flat defender. Explode to a depth of 14 yards, sprint for four steps out of the break, and turn your eyes to the sky, anticipating the ball at a depth of 40 yards and aiming at the near upright of the goalpost. The goal of the frontside outside receiver in this pattern is to take two deep defenders with you.

Shoot / Flat Route: Sprint to a point on the sideline, look for the ball over the outside shoulder: Shoot Route, sprint to 6 yards deep; Flat Route, sprint to 3 yards deep. Be alert for a N/A quick throw. Upon reaching a point five yards from the sideline, stop and square up to the quarterback. Pre-Snap Considerations: Read the Hard Deck and consider all potential CAPPING on the routes. Include what was learned from film study & the in-game assessment process.
