Economic Assessment and Recommendations
Select one (1) Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs) and conduct economic research and assessment
relating the chosen goal in the context of the Philippine economic development. Provide
recommendations on how to achieve the chosen goal using theories discussed in Economic Development.

Follow the suggested outline below in completing the written output:
I. Economic Background
a. It must include historical data reflecting the past and present economic conditions of the
Philippines in relation to the chosen SDG. It must discuss in detail how the chosen SDG has
contributed or failed to contribute to achieving economic development.
II. Statement of the Problem
a. It must include a clear and concise economic problem derived from complex research and
analysis of the Philippines and its government.
For instance, if the chosen goal is to promote “Zero Hunger,” which focuses on achieving
food security, improving nutrition, and promoting sustainable agriculture, this can be the
statement of the problem:
• How can the Philippines achieve economic development through food security,
improved nourishment, and sustainable farming?
b. The statement of the problem can also be derived from any identified gaps in the Philippine
economy or any mishap that hinders the country from achieving full-blown economic
development.
III. Alternative Courses of Action
a. It must contain at least three (3) economic policies that will resolve the given statement of
the problem. It must present the advantages and disadvantages of each policy relevant to
the basic indicators of development: health, education, and real income (refer to Pages 1–
2 of 02 Handout 1).
b. This part must also reflect some relevant and related concepts of economic development
such as poverty, inequality, population growth, urbanization, agricultural transformation,
and rural development.
IV. Recommendation
a. It must present the best economic policy among the presented alternatives, in resolving
the given statement of the problem.
b. This part must clearly present why a particular alternative was chosen over the other
proposed alternatives.
V. Implementation Program
a. This part must present that the endorsed strategy is feasible for wide implementation. For
instance, the recommendation is to raise both farm and non-farm rural real incomes
through job creation, rural industrialization, and other non-farm opportunities, in order to
create a sustainable balance in the availability of food and food nutrients. This proposal
may only be deemed effective if the Philippine government has enough resources to fund

and support the given policies. Moreover, proper assessment of required skills and
capabilities to execute plans and courses of action must also be included in the
implementation program.
VI. Management Lessons Learned
a. It must discuss the takeaways from the research.
