DBMS Assignment 1

1. What is Data Abstraction? Explain about different views of data?

2. Explain different types of Databases.
3. What are the advantages of DBMS?
(a) Draw the Architecture of Database?
(b) Discuss about Database users and Administrators?
4. What are the problems with File system data management?
5. What is an Entity? Explain different type of Entities.
6. What is an Attribute? Explain different types of Attributes.
7. Draw the ER diagram for a company needs to store information about Employees
(Identified by ssn, with salary and phone as attributes), Departments (Identified by
dno, with dname and budget as attributes), and children of employees (With name and
age as attributes). Employees work in departments, each department is managed by an
employee, a child must be identified uniquely by name when the parent (Who is an
employee; assume that only one parent works for the company) is known. We are not
interested in information about a child once the parent leaves the company
8. Explain about integrity constraints over relations.
9. List the database models and explain Architecture of database.

context, create two tables employee and department. Employee consists of columns
empno, empname, basic, hra, da, deductions, gross, net, date-of-birth.The calculation
of hra, da are as per the rules of the college. Initially only empno, empname, basic
have valid values. Other values are to be computed and updated later. department
contains deptno, deptname, and description columns. Deptno is the primary key in
department table and referential integrity constraint exists between employee and
department tables?
11. Develop an ER diagram for the “Restaurant Menu Ordering System”, which will
facilitate the food items ordering and services within a restaurant. The entire
restaurant scenario is detailed as follows. The customer is able to view the food items

food preparation staff (chef) and finalize the customer’s bill. The food preparation
staffs (chefs), with their touch-display interfaces to the system, are able to view orders
sent to the kitchen by waiters. During preparation, they are able to let the waiter know
the status of each item, and can send notifications when items are completed. The
system should have full accountability and logging facilities, and should support
supervisor actions to account for exceptional circumstances, such as a meal being
refunded or walked out on.
