Week 1: Introduction to Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship is the act of creating, organizing, and managing a business venture to
meet identified needs and make profit.
It involves bearing risk and innovating new solutions. Entrepreneurs start ventures using
creativity and resources to solve problems.
For instance, someone who sets up a mobile charging station in Nigeria is identifying a need,
investing resources, and offering a service.
Entrepreneurship reduces unemployment and improves living standards in the community.

Learning Objectives:
- Define entrepreneurship, entrepreneur, and enterprise.

- List at least five characteristics of successful entrepreneurs.

- Explain at least three reasons entrepreneurship is important in Nigeria.

- Identify one business opportunity in their local community and explain its need.

Week 2: Functions of an Entrepreneur

Entrepreneurs plan, organize, decide, take risks, and innovate.
They develop goals, arrange resources, make decisions, and prepare for uncertainty.
In Nigeria, farmers plan their planting schedules and traders manage market risks.
Entrepreneurs also innovate by improving existing products or services.

Forms of ownership include sole proprietorship, partnership, and company.
Each form has advantages and disadvantages related to control, capital, and risk.

- Explain differences between small- and large-scale businesses.

- List and explain forms of business ownership in Nigeria.

- Assess the best form for a community-based business.

Week 4: Sources of Business Ideas and Opportunity Identification

Business ideas come from personal skills, community needs, hobbies, market trends, or
technology.
Entrepreneurs must observe their environment, identify gaps, and develop feasible
business ideas.
For example, starting a food kiosk near schools or a laundry service in hostels.
