Methods of Communication
Communication:
We communicate all the time. Take a look at your daily routine and you can
make out how communication has taken a key place in our lives. Spending
time with family, watching television, reading newspaper, ordering a pizza,
reading e-mails, working on social sites – all of these are nothing but ways of
communication.
Communication is a vital life skill and developing it can benefit us all aspects of
life professionally, as well as socially.
Methods of Communication
We communicate with each other in a number of ways, depending upon the
message and the content through which it is conveyed.

Verbal Communication
Verbal communication refers to the form of communication in which the
message is transmitted verbally. It is done by word of mouth or as a piece of
writing.
Types of Verbal Communication
Oral Communication
In oral communication, spoken words are used. It includes face-to-face
conversation, speech, video call etc.
Written Communication
In written communication we use signs or symbols to convey the message. The
message can be printed or handwritten and includes e-mails, letters, report,
sms etc.
Non – Verbal Communication
Non – Verbal Communication is a vital part of any communication.
Communication comes from non-verbal cues like facial expression, body
language and tone of voice.

Visual Communication

Disadvantage of Written Communication
1. It takes more time composing a written message and requires a good
writing ability.
2. It does not bring instant feedback or response.

Feedback in Communication
The word communication is derived from the latin word communis which means to
impart, to share, to participate.
It is a process through which people exchange facts, ideas or opinions with one
another.
The communication cycle revolves around its two major components – the sender
and the receiver.
The transmission of sender’s ideas to the receiver and the receiver’s feedback or
reaction to the sender forms the communication cycle.
Feedback
The receiver’s response to a sender’s message, providing information on how the
message was understood, received and interpreted.
