Specific Objectives
At the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

Identify nouns (people, places, animals, and things) shown in pictures or spoken aloud.

Webb’s DOK Level 1 – Recall: Students demonstrate recognition and recall of nouns.

Classify nouns into the correct categories (people, places, animals, and things).

Webb’s DOK Level 2 – Skills & Concepts: Students organize, and sort information based on
understanding of noun types.

Explain whether a sentence contains a noun and justify their answer.

Webb’s DOK Level 3 – Strategic Thinking: Students apply understanding of nouns to new
examples and provide reasoning.

Create original sentences using nouns, including both common and proper nouns.

Webb’s DOK Level 4 – Extended Thinking: Students use learned concepts to generate new
examples and apply them in authentic contexts (e.g., their school, family, or community).

Content Outline

Students will learn to identify nouns and pronouns including learning that nouns are names
of people, places animals and things. Students will also learn the how to create sentences
with their own nouns and pronouns.
Materials
 Picture prompts (children playing, a dog running, etc.)
 Whiteboard/markers
 Worksheets
 Tape

Lesson Procedure
1. Engage (5 minutes)
Students will be asked to identify the different images being shown to them.

Then the students will be asked to give names of different people, places, animals and
things

Teacher will then introduce the term nouns to the students.

Webb’s DOK Level 1 (Recall): Students recall prior knowledge by identifying and
naming.

2. Explore (10 minutes)


Using the board the teacher will draw 4 circle with the title ; people , animal, places and
things .

The teacher will then give out picture of nouns.

Students will be asked to sort the different images in the correct circle.

Webb’s DOK Level 2 (Skills & Concepts): Students classify and sort, showing they
understand the categories of nouns

3. Explain (8 minutes)
The students play and mini game of true or false where.

The teacher writes a sentence on the board and read aloud with the students

Then the students are asked whether the statement is true or false about nouns.

For example,

I am pretty

My friend Timmy is smart.


Webb’s DOK Level 3 (Strategic Thinking): Students do more than just recalling
since they are only saying true or false by but also explaining why a sentence does or
does not contain a noun. They justify their answers and whole the teacher can also
help clear up misconceptions.
4. Elaborate (10 minutes)

Students will be asked to create their own sentences that has at least one noun from
the picture prompt provided.

Students are to also describe what they are seeing using at least one noun.

The teacher will then introduce the other two kinds of nouns common and proper
nouns.While also showing the students her sentence as an example.

For example

My school Mona primary starts at 7:00 am.

Webb’s DOK Level 4 (Extended Thinking): Students apply what they have learnt in
a more challenging way by creating original sentences. Along with differentiating
between common and proper nouns . This requires them to extend thinking beyond
recall or categorization into meaningful application.

5. Evaluate (7 minutes)

• Quick Check Activity:


o Teacher writes three incomplete sentences on board with blanks (e.g., “The
___ jumps.”). Students fill in with appropriate noun/verb.
o Students are then given worksheets that focuses on identifying nouns and
the the two types of nouns.
