Test of Mathematics for University Admission

Cambridge Assessment Admissions Testing
Simulation test
Paper 2 Time: 75 minutes

Additional Materials: Answer sheet

Instructions to Candidates

Please read these instructions carefully, but do not open the ques-
tion paper until you are told that you may do so.

A separate answer sheet is provided for this paper. Please check you have
one. You also require a soft pencil and an eraser.

This paper is the first of two papers.

There are 20 questions on this paper. For each question, choose the one
answer you consider correct and record your choice on the separate answer
sheet. If you make a mistake, erase thoroughly and try again.

There are no penalties for incorrect responses, only marks for correct an-
swers, so you should attempt all 20 questions. Each question is worth one
mark.

Any rough work should be done on this question paper. No extra paper is
allowed.

Please complete the answer sheet with your candidate number, centre num-
ber, date of birth, and full name.

Calculators and dictionaries must NOT be used. There is no formulae book-

let for this test.

4 In a castle, there are five knights named Elvin, Black, Carl, Daniel, and
Ethan. Each of them has a statement about their own skill level on their
helmet. While each knight’s actual swordsmanship skill level is the same,
their statements are all different:

Elvin: My swordsmanship level is an even number greater than 2.

Black: My swordsmanship level is neither 1 nor 4.

Carl: My swordsmanship level is not a prime.

Daniel: My swordsmanship level is neither 2 nor 5.

Ethan: My swordsmanship level is an odd number.

Similarly, only one knight is telling the truth.

15 You and your friend are playing a game of distributing weights. Each of
you has a bag containing a a certain real, discrete amount of weight(Unit:
kg). Let x represents the weight in your bag, and y represents the weight in
your friend s bag. You want to adjust the weights in your bags such that
x − y is minimized, while satisfying the following conditions:

[Link] friend must have at least 1kg in their bag

[Link] weights of your friend cannot exceed twice the weights your balls minus 1
[Link] total weight in both bags cannot exceed an unknown value m

After calculating, you find that the minimum value of the difference between
your weight and your friend’s is -1, i.e. x − y = −1. Now, you need to find
the maximum allowed total value m that satisfies these conditions.
