Septile
There is a whole family of septile aspects including the septile, bi-septile and tri-septile forming one, two
and three sevenths of a circle respectively. Septiles are measured in denominations of fifty-one degrees
twenty-five minutes, one hundred two degrees fifty one minutes five seconds and one-hundred-fifty-four
degrees, seventeen minutes and two seconds. The septile family of aspects is very different. They divide
the circle into one, two and three sevenths respectively. This is the first series of aspects that to not divide
evenly. This is a somewhat irrational force of energy, something sacred and holy going on here. Much like
the number seven, Septiles contain spiritual power and imply the possibility of cosmic intervention.
Septiles indicate harmony and union though in a non-conforming way. These aspects can indicate
extraordinary creative efforts at self-knowledge and ultimate understanding and can be a real turn on.
Septiles resonate with Venus, Cardinal, Air and Libra energy.

The 51.25’43” Septile,

These are divisions of the circle by seven and, perhaps because they do not divide evenly, are
considered somewhat irrational in their expression. They are hard to spot in a chart and
probably need to be found with the aid of a computer printout or protractor. Hand relates them
to emotional difficulties as well as creative inspiration.

Dennis Elwell associates the septile with a delightful sense of fascination, inspiration and
enchantment. He says the planets involved combine to attract situations, places or people that
captivate the imagination creating a useful springboard towards greater creativity and
enthusiasm. Regardless of the planets involved, the septile is considered by some to have
“romantic” qualities, describing people or situations that ignite the affectations.

Septile 51° 25 mins 42.8 seconds - according to Zane Stein this offers the ability to see what others
miss, the septile is the mystery element - that which is hidden from reality and this aspect can hold
a strong feeling of destiny. Some say this aspect is a very spiritual one that indicates a degree of
artistic expression, but I'm gonna reject that label and say it could be an indicator for low latent
inhibition, especially if Mercury is involved.

Septile: - positive aspect - about 7 signs in distance - our imaginative prowess; where we
achieve inspiration, intuition, creativity and originality. How we experiment and how we find
versatility in our life. Shows the native’s natural imaginative instincts that can’t be pushed away
by age or stress.

Septile 52°: the septile adds up to 7, which is ruled by Neptune. Neptune is the planet of
mystery, magic, illusion, spirituality and delusion. This aspect is all about the almost invisible
and spiritual connection between the planets that reveals very refined, and particular parts of
the planets involved in a sacred way. In synastry it can feel very spiritual and deep.

SEPTILE (51+ degrees)

“Out of Left Field” solution to a problem. You need to trust that “something will just happen.” This
aspect has an obsessive-compulsive quality to it – something just takes over you. It has occult
implications as it is the 7th Harmonic aspect. Obsessive-Compulsive types often have this aspect
strong natally, creating extremes of ups and downs. The Septile event is often such a surprise
that the individual is unable to take advantage of the opportunity. Psychologists do find that
obsessive personalities are often highly creative and inventive.
RESEARCH: My personal research has associated this aspect with bizarre events in the life such
as Princess Diana and Roy Sullivan, struck by lightning 7 times and he finally committed suicide.
This only occurs when there are many of these aspects. Roy has 7 in his natal chart. It is the
Solar Arc Septile that often triggers these events. The Septile aspect natally works best with
Quintiles.
In a research project that I initiated in the early 1990s, I found this aspect to have occurred in the
charts of children who were put to death in concentration camps. In these situations, other minor
aspects were prominent, showing events that are fated and beyond one’s control.
Septiles rule sudden, extraordinary events that come as a surprise. In practical affairs, its rules a
surprise opportunity but it is usually such a surprise that you cannot take advantage of it

The Septile
So, I mentioned at the very beginning of this post somewhere that the Sextile (6) is the aspect which I
believe we come to learn to appreciate. It’s the aspect within us where we are creatively gifted but with
time live experiences where we are taken for granted and consider throwing these abilities away, until
even later in life we realize that these things in our lives are a part of us and are what make us whole
and complete. When the Sextile is accepted and integrated within our psyches and souls, we then use
that energy to inspire and encourage others to reach their potentials.

Now, after this amount of human compassion is discovered, the human experience is lives and all…a
person then seeks to know why. This is where the Septile (7) aspect comes in. In Numerology, 7 is the
number of Truth. This is the number of deep soul searching, psychic/intuitive abilities and introspection.
I like to compare the Septile’s energy to Greek Mythology Psyche’s story. The story of a woman who was
so beautiful that she was cursed by Aphrodite from resentment. Psyche had done nothing deserving and
her only thought could be to wonder why. Psyche was intended to be cursed to fall in love with the
ugliest man alive by Eros without ever witnessing him, but he fails and she catches his gaze and they fall
in love. Psych falls in love with a god of Love whom she goes to the end of the earth, sacrifices her Soul,
just to be there with him.

The Septile Energy is similar to this, whereas the person with this aspect, reads between the lines and
sees beneath the surface, the unseen. The person will go great lengths to acquire the Truth for which
they believe and seek, with or without the faith of anyone else by their side. This energy does not take
anything at face value. The symbolism behind number 7 is perfection, the colors of the rainbow. The
number 7 is Neptune’s number and ruled by Cancer and Pisces. It can indicate intuition with the other
realms and can tend to trigger O.B.E. experiences in people. Some people are capable of communicating
with spirits or ghosts, even. Septile energy makes a person pursue things intuitively rather than logically
and they tend to have insight that is inexplicably spot on.

When a person has a Septile aspect between two or more of their planets, they tend to be a very
mystical and introspective person. Typically this person will be in their head, shy and introverted, but
this doesn’t indicate insecurity or lack of self-confidence, just mystery. The person with few or more
tend to be very scientific individuals, non-conforming, and have a very intense emphasis on the
importance of their individuality or authenticity. These people will freak out if they are unable to stay
true to themselves. And they will do really heavy mental analysis to make sure their head and heart are
on their destined path in life, accomplishing exactly what they believe they were meant to. This aspect
makes for philosophical and inventive people. And especially perfectionists.

It’s kind of strange, but the people with many Septiles tend to be very intuitively powerful and inventive
people, however they are the ones whom are often questioned for their intellect because they are
already envisioning the future that it’s really hard to ground them. But they are indeed very intellectual,
intelligent and quite ingenious. Einstein would be a perfect example. And also, it is not uncommon for
people with Septiles to turn out to be on the Autism Spectrum somewhere; simply misunderstood.

Septile series
The septile series are found by dividing 360 degrees by 7 so the septile aspect = 51 degrees 25
minutes 43 seconds. Multiples of this give bi-septile = 102° 51’26”; tri-septile = 154° 17’ 08”; quad-
septile = 205° 42’ 51”; quin-septile = 257°08’34”; sen-septile 308° 34’17”. This makes up a seven
point star.
This translated into the degrees of the zodiac starting from 0 Aries give the septile degrees as 21-22
Taurus; 12-13 Cancer; 4-5 Virgo; 25-26 Libra; 17-18 Sagittarius; 8-9 Aquarius. These degrees carry the
septile energy even if they are not involved in a septile pattern.
The Septile aspects are the first of the ‘infinite’ aspects as when 360 is divided by 7, you don’t get a
round number but one that continues forever (51.42857143..) Therefore Septiles are ‘wisdom
seeking’ aspects.
If a septile pattern is formed in the natal chart it is often an indication that a measure of wisdom has
been attained by the individual. Septiles give an interest in and ability to comprehend realities other
than the norm, so they fit well with the Vertex axis which gives access to other realities. If septile
patterns involve outer planets it is usually an indication of a person who quite different to the normal
run of humanity. Its negative side is that it can lose touch with the reality that is considered normal.

So you find septile series people in science, religion, astrology, research, psychic areas – in fact any
area that could be considered deeper or more recondite to the norm for a culture. For instance I know
a veterinarian who can easily communicate with most animals, reptiles and birds who has a planet
conjunct his 6th house Vertex which is also involved in a big septile- BiSeptile-TriSeptile pattern in his
natal chart.
Septile people are often highly inventive, especially if an outer planet is involved in the pattern. I have
found a number of them involved in artificial intelligence areas.

Unlike quintile series people, septile series people tend to be quiet, sometimes shy and very modest.
Usually only people involved in the same area realize the extent of their considerable abilities and
skills. If they have quintiles running off one of the planets involved in the septile pattern they can be
highly creative (or destructive) with their knowledge or skill.

The septile patterns connected to the quintile patterns can be an indication of creative genius. E.g.
Albert Einstein had an Ascendant-Uranus-Moon septile pattern that tapped into his Moon-Jupiter-
Neptune quintile pattern. So his genius Uranus had an excellent creative outlet.

Just as angles are considered in aspect patterns, so can house cusps. Albert Einstein’s strong septile
pattern was enhanced by the Porphyry 5th cusp at 22 -23 Libra, septile Uranus and Moon and giving
midpoint structures of Uranus = Asc/5th cusp and 5th cusp = Moon/Uranus. This would increase his
creative enjoyment of the septile energy.
As the Septiles give the ability to understand other realities it fits well with the Vertex axis, which is a
doorway to other realities, so you often find the two combined in some way in the charts of exceptional
people. For example, Albert Einstein had his Vertex in Scorpio, with the ruler, Pluto, conjunct the anti-
Vertex and in septile aspect to Mercury Saturn. He also had a septile pattern involving Asc-Uranus-
Moon. The Moon was involved in a quintile pattern made up of Moon-Jupiter-Neptune and Uranus was
BiQuintile Mars, so he was able to become an expert in his chosen field (septile) and develop further
creative/destructive use in that area (quintiles).

One of the signatures of psychic ability is a septile aspect or pattern running off the Vertex axis,
though people with this configuration usually do not enjoy publicity and prefer to keep their skills
private.

It is not unusual to have a planet in a septile series aspect to the Ascendant. In fact, it is always there
in the few charts I have that I know have an absolutely accurate time of birth, so I am considering that
perhaps it is a signature of the birth process. This becomes very powerful if there is an actual
septile pattern involved with the Ascendant.

Septile transits are always important if you are looking at the charts of people who have specialized
knowledge in their field and/or are involved in the ‘wisdom’ areas of life.
Because the septile energy is very finely tuned it is difficult to work with it in prediction as it tends not
to produce obvious outward events. However check out 1915, the year before Einstein published The
General Theory of Relativity. That year he had transiting Jupiter retrograding back and forth over 27
Pisces, one of the empty legs of his septile pattern, giving him enormous inspiration for his work.

I've just been reading an interesting article by Alice Portman about Septiles, and I realize I've never really
looked at this aspect of my own chart, and also I don't think I remember you talking about Septiles.

She says: "[Septiles] translated into the degrees of the zodiac starting from 0 Aries give the septile
degrees as 21-22 Taurus; 12-13 Cancer; 4-5 Virgo; 25-26 Libra; 17-18 Sagittarius; 8-9 Aquarius"

With my AC at 22 Taurus and Sun/Neptune conjunction at 27 Libra, that made me prick up my

metaphorical ears.
