Subject: Concern Regarding Safety During Mandatory Overtime

Dear Management,
I hope this message finds you well.
I am writing to respectfully raise a concern regarding the safety risks associated
with the mandatory overtime hours that require us to leave work late. While I
understand the operational demands that may necessitate extended working
hours, I kindly ask that you consider the personal safety implications, particularly
for female staff members.
The route I take home after overtime shifts is not safe, especially at night. I have
personally experienced unsettling incidents even during daylight hours in my
neighborhood, which makes the idea of navigating poorly lit passages at night
genuinely distressing. The risk is heightened by the recent rise in cases of violence
against women, which I believe you can empathize with.
I am deeply concerned not only for my own safety but also for that of my colleagues
who may face similar challenges. We all strive to fulfill our duties with dedication,
but our well-being should not be compromised in the process.
I kindly urge management to consider alternative arrangements that prioritize
staff safety, whether through adjusted shift schedules, transportation support, or
other protective measures. Your understanding and support in this matter would
mean a great deal to us.

Follow up solutions suggested by staff

1. Increase in Overtime Compensation
Staff recommend a review of the current overtime pay structure to ensure that it
adequately covers the additional costs incurred when working beyond regular
hours. Specifically, the revised rates should enable employees to afford safe and
reliable transportation, such as cab services, when leaving work late.
2. Employer-Supported Transport with Shared Costs
Given the absence of staff transport, employees propose that the employer
consider arranging transportation services for staff working overtime. The cost
of this service could be shared between the employer and employees, thereby
reducing the financial burden on staff while significantly improving safety and
convenience.
3. Elimination of Mandatory Overtime Through Strategic Staffing
Staff suggest phasing out mandatory overtime by hiring additional personnel to
cover extended operational hours. These new hires would receive full salaries,
ensuring adequate coverage without overburdening existing staff and
promoting a healthier work-life balance.
Thank you for taking the time to consider this concern. I trust that you will treat
it with the seriousness it deserves.

Warm regards,
