TABBED ESTIMATED
CONSTRUCTION BUILD TIME

SKULL MODEL
DESIGNED BY STEVE WINTERCROFT

TABBED CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS REQUIRED

This model is constructed by gluing Access to a printer and 10 sheets of A4 paper
tabs to join the edges. This technique or US Letter paper.
will give you a strong and beautiful
Thin card – the type used in cereal boxes – is ideal.
model.
We use a card weight of 300gsm. Thicker card,
and corrugated card, will not work well, as it will
not bend to the detailed folds. The approximate
area required is around 3 sheets of flat A3 card.
Spray mount / Pritt Stick / PVA or similar product
to stick paper to card.
Scissors or a craft knife.
A fast-setting adhesive for joining the tabs and
assembling the model. You can use either a high quality
double-sided tape, or a fast-drying nontoxic glue for
constructing the model. A glue gun works well. We
recommend using a good quality, high performance
double-sided tape as it is easy to handle and has no
curing time. As you will be putting the model on your
head please make sure that whatever glue you use,
it is nontoxic and will not produce harmful fumes.

PRINTING ADVICE
The templates are 1:1 scale and are intended to be printed
at ACTUAL SIZE on either A4 paper (210mm X 297mm)
or US Letter paper (8½” X 11”). In your printer settings
150mm please select the type of paper that you are printing
on but DO NOT SCALE THE TEMPLATES TO FIT
THE PAPER.
I have included a Scale Guideline on the first
page of the templates so that you can check the
printed scale. The line should measure 150mm
after printing, however, a deviation of 4mm is
acceptable. There is more information on printing
the templates in our FAQ section of the website.
If you’re already familiar with our instructions,
please save paper by only printing the template
pages that you need to construct your model.

PREPARATION
1. A
fter printing the templates on paper, trim them
roughly to the approximate size. They don’t have
to be neat. Trimming off the excess paper makes
it easier to arrange the templates on the card.
2. If you are using reclaimed card, unfold your boxes
so that you have flat sheets to work with, then glue
the templates to the card. When you assemble
your model, YOUR TEMPLATES WILL BE ON THE
INTERIOR OF THE MODEL. A good quality glue
stick is cheap and works fine for this. Make sure
that the templates are well-bonded to the card.
3. C
utting out the templates can be done using a pair
of scissors (or a craft knife, a rule and a cutting mat).
ut around the outside of each part making sure to
C
only cut along the solid outlines.
4. T
he fold lines on the templates are marked as either
a dashed line representing a valley fold or dashes
with dots to represent a mountain fold. This is
with the templates on the inside of the model.
5. S
core all the folds marked on templates with
something blunt - I use an old ball point pen.

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS

BUILDING THE SKULL - PARTS (A) TO (G)
1. T
he Skull should be built sequentially following the
ALPHABETIC labels on the parts. Starting with part
(A) find two edges with corresponding numbers. For
example, TAB 42 joins to EDGE 42. THE NUMBERS
ARE NOT TO BE COMPLETED SEQUENTIALLY.
2. In each pair of numbered edges, one part will have a
glueing tab, and one will not. The glueing tab will always
go on the inside of the Skull. Test fit the edge before
you apply glue or tape to the tab. Once you are happy
with how the edges fit together, apply glue/tape to
the outer surface of the tab and bring the two edges
together, remembering that the tab goes inside the
Skull. Apply pressure to the join until the adhesive has
set enough to hold on its own. Once you have joined
all the paired edges on parts (A) set it to one side
and repeat this process with parts (B), (C) and (D).
3. N
ext connect part (C) to part (D) by joining paired
edges 3, 5 and 9. Then add parts (A) and (B) to part
(D) by matching the paired numbers. Continue in this
way adding parts alphabetically before finally gluing the
black eyes and nose piece in place to complete the Skull
4. W
e’ve left the bottom of the Skull open so you
can add low energy light and turn it into a lantern
or use the space to hide your precious things.
