Issue: “Yung depression gawa gawa lang ng mga tao yan”

INTRODUCTION
Hook/Opening Statement: What if someone tells you that the pain you feel is not
real and you’re just bieng dramatic?
Background of the Issue: Joey De Leon said that depression is not real and it’s just
made up by people who want attention. many people got mad, especially those
who knows how serious mental health problems is. He apologized, but many
people think it’s not enough because his words has already hurt people.
Thesis Statement: What Joey De Leon said about depression is really wrong and
also harmful. Depression is real and saying it’s fake just makes it harder for people
to open up and get help.

BODY
CLAIM #1: Depression is real and affects millions.
EVIDENCE: The World Health Organization said millions of people in the world
have depression. It’s a mental illness that can make a person feel really sad, tired,
and lose interest in doing anything they once liked.
EXPLANATION: Saying that depression is only being dramaticis not true at all
because doctors have studied it for years. People with depression are not being
dramatic, they are really suffering and need support, not people laughing at them.
CLAIM #2: Saying depression is fake makes people scared to ask help.
EVIDENCE: In the Philippines, many people feel ashamed to see a doctor or
therapist because they think others will call them weak crazy, especially older
people who don’t understand.
EXPLANATION: When someone famous like Joey De Leon says something like that,
more people will believe it’s true. That makes others stay quiet, hide their
feelings, and not tell anyone they are struggling deep inside.

CLAIM #3: People should always be more careful with their words.
EVIDENCE: People who have many fans and followers can really influence how
others think and act. So they need to use their voice to raise awareness about
mental health.
EXPLANATION: Joey De Leon could have used his show to help people
understand, but instead, he made depression sound like a joke. He should speak
with care and kindness, not hurt others.

CONCLUSION
Restatement of Position: Depression is real and serious, and what Joey De Leon
said about it being fake is wrong and harmful.
