Mini Refrigerator Using Peltier Module
Introduction
This project demonstrates the design and working of a Mini Refrigerator using a Peltier
Module. The main objective of this project is to develop a compact and efficient cooling
system without using conventional refrigerants. The refrigerator works on the
thermoelectric principle, where the Peltier module is used to create a temperature
difference when electric current passes through it.
Components Used
1. **Peltier Module (TEC1-12706):** The core component that operates on the
thermoelectric effect. It has two sides — one becomes hot and the other becomes cold when
current flows through it.
2. **Heat Sink:** It is attached to the hot side of the Peltier module to dissipate heat
effectively and maintain performance.
3. **Fan:** A fan is used to enhance air circulation and improve heat dissipation from the
heat sink, keeping the system stable.
4. **Thermistor / Temperature Sensor:** This sensor monitors the temperature inside the
mini refrigerator and helps control the system.
5. **Thermostat / Control Circuit:** It is used to control the temperature automatically by
turning the Peltier module ON and OFF according to the set temperature range.
6. **Insulated Box / Chamber:** The insulated body reduces heat loss to the environment
and maintains the cooling effect inside the refrigerator.
7. **Power Supply:** A DC power supply is used to provide sufficient voltage and current to
the Peltier module and fan.
Working Principle
The Mini Refrigerator works on the Peltier effect. When DC current passes through the
Peltier module (TEC1-12706), one side of the module absorbs heat and becomes cold, while
the opposite side releases heat and becomes hot. The hot side is connected to a heat sink
and fan to dissipate heat, while the cold side is connected to the inner surface of the
insulated chamber. This creates a cooling effect inside the chamber, lowering its
temperature.
Functions of Each Component
• **Peltier Module:** Converts electrical energy into a temperature difference to provide
cooling.
• **Heat Sink:** Absorbs and disperses heat from the hot side of the Peltier module to
maintain efficiency.
• **Fan:** Increases airflow over the heat sink for better cooling and prevents overheating.
• **Temperature Sensor:** Measures and monitors the internal temperature of the
refrigerator.
• **Thermostat / Controller:** Maintains the desired temperature by controlling the Peltier
module automatically.
• **Insulated Box:** Prevents external heat from entering and preserves the cooling inside.
• **Power Supply:** Provides the necessary DC current to operate the components.
Applications
1. Portable mini refrigerators for personal use.
2. Cooling of electronic devices and sensors.
3. Laboratory or small-scale temperature-controlled experiments.
4. Beverage or medicine cooling storage.
Conclusion
The Mini Refrigerator using a Peltier module is an efficient and eco-friendly cooling system
that eliminates the need for harmful refrigerants. It is compact, reliable, and easy to design
for small-scale applications. This project demonstrates the practical use of thermoelectric
technology in refrigeration and cooling systems.
