Single Menu

Introduction
A Single Menu is a simple form of menu interface that presents all available options on one
screen or list. It allows users to make a selection directly from a single set of choices, without
navigating through multiple submenus or levels.

Concept
In a single menu system, users view all possible commands or options at once. This design is most
effective when the number of options is small and manageable, and the user must make a single,
straightforward choice.

Characteristics
Displays all choices in one view. Requires no scrolling or submenu navigation. Simplifies the
selection process. Used for quick decision-making tasks.

Advantages
Easy to use – all options visible at once. Quick selection – minimal navigation. Good for beginners –
simple and clear structure. Low memory load – no need to remember hidden options.

Disadvantages
Limited scalability – unsuitable for many options. Not suitable for complex systems. Lacks flexibility
for hierarchical grouping.

Design Guidelines
Use when the number of options is small (less than 10). Arrange options logically (alphabetically or
by importance). Provide clear and descriptive labels. Visually group related options. Ensure all
items are readable and accessible.

Examples of Single Menus

System Example Menu
Restaurant Ordering App Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner / Snacks
Calculator Standard / Scientific / Programmer
Game App Start Game / Settings / Help / Exit

Conclusion
A Single Menu provides a simple, direct interface for selecting from a small set of choices. It is
ideal for basic applications requiring quick and clear decisions, but not for complex or multi-level
systems.
