OVEARALL COURSE OBJECTIVES
The aim and objective of the course of Basic Electrical Engineering LAB is to
provide comprehensive practical idea about Electrical Engineering.
LAB INSTRUCTIONS
1. Use of phones is not allowed.
2. No student is allowed to eat in the class (food/chewing gum etc.)
3. Each student should carry their own copy,Practical file and stationary in the lab on a daily basis.
4. Students late by 5 minutes will be allowed after the attendance is taken.
5. Students will follow the General Safety Guidelines given below -
1. Check Equipment: Ensure that the equipment is in good working condition before use.
2. Avoid Short Circuits: Be cautious not to create short circuits by connecting components
incorrectly.

3. Turn Off Equipment: Always turn off power supplies before connecting or disconnecting
components.
4. Handle Components with Care: Be gentle with electrical components, especially resistors,
capacitors, and integrated circuits (ICs).
5. Do not touch any equipment unless instructed by the lab assistant and course instructor.
COURSE OUTCOMES
CO 1 The ability to use common electrical measuring instruments and understand
the fundamentals of electrical engineering.
CO 2 The ability to make electrical connections, and measure power, power factor
using appropriate equipment.
CO 3 Have the knowledge of electrical machines, components and their ratings.
SYLLABUS
1. To verify Ohm’s Law and its limitations.
2. To verify Kirchhoff’s Laws.
3. To measure the resistance and inductance of a coil by ammeter-voltmeter
method
4. To find voltage-current relationship in a R-L series circuit and to determine the
power factor of the circuit.
5. To verify the voltage and current relations in star and delta connected systems.
6. To measure power and power factor in a single- phase AC circuit.
7. To verify series and parallel resonance in AC circuits.
8. To observe the B-H loop of ferromagnetic core material on CRO.
9. To use a bridge rectifier for full- wave rectification of AC supply and to determine
the relationship between RMS and average values of the rectified voltage.

10. To measure the minimum operating voltage, current drawn, power consumed,
and the power factor of a fluorescent tube light, Bulb, Single phase induction motor.
11. To connect measuring analog and digital instruments to measure current,
voltage, power and power factor.
12. To perform open- and short circuit tests on a single- phase transformer and
calculate its efficiency.
13. To start and reverse the direction of rotation of a (i) DC motor (ii) three phase
Induction motor
14. Study of starters for (i) DC motor (ii) Induction motor
15. Study of Cut section of DC Series motor, DC shunt motor and three phase
induction motor
16. Calibration of energy meter.

There will be NO REMAKE of Mid-Semester Examination .Remake of Mid
Semester Examination will be held only if the genuine Medical leave is duly
approved by the Principal. The students are advised to appear in all the evaluation
parameters as per Class Calendar with preparation to avoid any inconvenience.*It is
compulsory to appear in all MSE.

Attendance Policy:
It is compulsory for all the students to have minimum 75% attendance in each
subject at the end of the semester failing which the student will not be allowed to
write the final exam.
2. Students can score marks in attendance as per the following rule:
Upto 75%- Nil 76% to 80% - 2 marks
81% to 85% - 3 marks 86% to 90% - 4 marks
91% to 95% - 5 marks Above 95% - 6 Marks
PROJECT Topic
Project 1: Construction and Working of a Multimeter
Students will learn the basic principle and internal circuit diagram of a multimeter. This project
helps them understand how a multimeter measures voltage, current, and resistance in electrical
circuits.
Project 2: Construction and Working of an Energy Meter
Through this project, students will gain knowledge about the components and operation of an
energy meter. They will also learn the concepts related to electricity billing, the function of fuses,
and the role of Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs).
Project 3: Assembly and Disassembly of a Ceiling Fan
This project involves demonstrating the construction, circuit diagram, and working of a ceiling fan.
Students will understand the internal components and how the fan converts electrical energy into
mechanical motion.
Project 4: Construction and Working of an Electric Iron
Students will explore the principle of operation of an electric iron. They will learn how electrical
energy heats the coil, which in turn heats the base plate through conduction. The combination of
heat and pressure is used to remove wrinkles from clothes.

Project 5: Making of an Extension Board
Students will construct a working extension board and understand its internal wiring. The project
emphasizes the correct connection of phase and neutral wires and the use of components like
sockets, switches, fuses, and plugs to distribute electrical power safely.
Project 6: Residential Electrical Wiring
This project aims to teach students the practical aspects of electrical wiring in a household setup. It
includes understanding wiring layouts, load calculations, and the connection of various electrical
points like lights, fans, and switches.
Project 7: Working and Components of a Transformer
Students will study the construction and working principle of a transformer, which operates on the
principle of electromagnetic induction. Key components include the primary and secondary
windings, core, insulation, and the cooling system.
Project 8: Construction and Working Principle of a Tube Light
This project focuses on the construction, circuit diagram, and working of an electric tube light.
Students will understand how electrical energy is converted into light using gas discharge and
auxiliary components like chokes and starters.

student(s) is/are found copying in any evaluation parameter, then the
student(s) will get Internal Reappear in that subject.
No practical tasks/assignments will be accepted after deadlines.
