3 Calculation Method
The BMS (Battery Management System, BMS) of Goldwind Carbon Neutral’s 745kWh BESS uses the
ampere-hour integration method as the primary method for SOC (State of Charge, SOC) estimation.
In addition to the ampere-hour integration method, the BMS also includes dynamic charging correction,
dynamic discharging correction, OCV-SOC (Open Circuit Voltage, OCV) correction, and dqdv
correction methods to refine SOC calculations. These adjustments help reduce estimation errors
caused by accumulated errors during the Ah integration, environmental variations, SOH (State of
Health) estimation inaccuracies, and cell consistency discrepancies. Additionally, SOC can be
manually calibrated through upper-level software, allowing for quick correction based on user
experience.
3.1 SOC Calculation Method
3.1.1 Dynamic Charging Correction
a. Charging pre-correction.
Through the working condition test implemented on the battery cell, the following is determined:
When the highest cell voltage reaches V_Chg1, the SOC is approximately SOC_Chg1%. And
when the highest cell voltage reaches V_Chg2, the SOC is approximately SOC_Chg2%. The
correction of SOC is determined by which value is the first to reach the target value, the maximum
voltage of a single unit or the SOC of that single unit.
b. Tracking correction of charging voltage.
Intervention condition: The highest cell voltage and SOC reaches a certain threshold. After
entering the voltage tracking mode, the SOC will be calculated based on the linear relationship
between the current voltage - charging cut-off voltage, and the current SOC - full charge SOC.
Once the battery has done charging, the BMS will exit from voltage tracking mode.

c. Charging cut-off correction.
When the charging cutoff condition is met, the SOC is immediately corrected to 100%.
3.1.2 Dynamic Discharging Correction
a. Discharging pre-correction. Through the working condition test implemented on the battery cell,
the following is determined: When the lowest cell voltage reaches V_DisChg1, the SOC is
approximately SOC_DisChg1%. And when the lowest cell voltage reaches V_DisChg2, the SOC
is approximately SOC_DisChg2%. The correction of SOC is determined by which value is the first
to reach the target value, the minimum voltage of a single unit or the SOC of that single unit.
The exit condition of pre-correction strategy: changing of the charge/discharge state.
b. Tracking correction of discharging voltage. Intervention condition: The lowest cell voltage and SOC
reaches a certain threshold. After entering the voltage tracking mode, the SOC will be calculated
based on the linear relationship between the current voltage - discharging cut-off voltage, and the
current SOC - full discharge SOC. Once the battery has done discharging, the BMS will exit from
voltage tracking mode.
c. Discharging cut-off correction. When the discharging cut-off condition is met, the SOC is
immediately corrected to 0%
3.1.3 OCV-SOC Correction
When the battery energy storage system is under standby mode and within the low-voltage linear
region, then the OCV-SOC correction will be activated.
3.1.4 dqdv Correction
The BMS continuously calculates the dq/dv value. If the dq/dv characteristic conditions are met, OCV-
SOC correction is activated.
3.1.5 Manual Calibration
Through upper-level software configuration, SOC can be manually forced to a calibrated value. Once
set, the value serve as the initial reference for further Ah integration calculations.
3.2 SOH Calculation Method
The BMS employs
a. online capacity estimation,
b. cumulative capacity lookup, and
c. internal resistance calculation methods to determine the SOH of the battery pack system.
The results of these methods are weighted and integrated to obtain the final system SOH.
