Terminal Troubleshooting Guide REV.:1

Overview
This guide describes the common errors that may occur in the 2200 Production Terminal and Line Termi-
nal and the methods to resolve them.

Issue 1: Empty black screen on 2200 Production Terminal

Cause
The cause of the problem might be an empty or missing bat file.

Symptom
The screen appears black and empty.

Workaround
To resolve the issue, replace the empty bat file with a valid one.

Resolving the problem

1. Download the Boot_Run.bat file:
a. Use the following link or attachment to download the bat file:
• 2200 Production Terminal CoLOS v6.2

Boot_run.bat

• 2200 Production Terminal CoLOS v6.3

Boot_run.bat

• 2200 Production Terminal CoLOS v6.4

Boot_run.bat

b. Copy the Boot_Run.bat file to a USB stick’s root folder.

c. Plug the USB stick into the Terminal.

Note: Ensure the USB stick is formatted and the bat file is stored in the root directory rather
than in any subfolders.

Note: Ensure that the bat file is unblocked. No action is required if the checkbox is not pre-
sent.

2. Replace the Boot_Run.bat file:

a. Connect a keyboard to the Terminal.
b. To open the Windows Task Manager, press Ctrl+Alt+Del button.
c. Select Task Manager.
d. On the Task Manager, navigate to File ➔ Run new task.

e. On the Create new task window, enter explorer.exe.

f. Select the OK.

Issue 2: CoLOS Production shows a blue screen with the spinner

Cause
The cause of the problem might be the failure of Internet Information Services (IIS) to start.

Symptom
The CoLOS Production shows a blue screen with the spinner.

Workaround
To resolve the issue, restart the Internet Information Services (IIS).

Resolving the problem

1. From the Windows start menu, open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
2. On the left pane of the IIS Manager, navigate to Local Host ➔ Application Pools ➔ CoLOS Produc-
tion 6.x.

3. On the top right Actions pane, below the Application Pool Tasks, select Start.

The CoLOS Production blue screen with the spinner issue is now resolved. Close IIS and rerun the applica-
tion to verify.

Issue 3: CoLOS Production shows a white screen with the spinner

Cause
The cause of the problem might be that the CoLOS Browser is loading old scripts from the cache during
the upgrade process.

Symptom
The CoLOS Production shows a white screen with the spinner.

Markem-Imaje Page 9 of 33
Terminal Troubleshooting Guide REV.:1

Workaround
To resolve the issue, delete the folder "C:\users\Got5xxx-845\AppData\Roaming\colos-browser". This will
clear the cache and allow the CoLOS Browser to load the updated scripts.

Resolving the problem

1. Close any open CoLOS applications.
2. Open the File Explorer.
3. Navigate to the “C:\users\Got5xxx-845\AppData\Roaming” folder.
4. Find the "colos-browser" folder.

5. Right-click on the "colos-browser" folder and select Delete.

6. If prompted, confirm that you want to delete the folder and all its contents permanently.
7. Close the File Explorer.
8. Open the CoLOS Production to allow it to load the updated scripts.

The CoLOS Production white screen with the spinner issue is now resolved.

Issue 4: E-touch incompatible CoLOS versions causing unexpected printer re-

sets/reboots
Cause
The cause of the problem might be that versions of CoLOS before 6.3.11 do not support e-touch.
Attempting to change the printer settings from an incompatible version of CoLOS can cause the printer
to reset or reboot unexpectedly.

Symptom
The printer resets or reboot unexpectedly after changing the printer settings.

b. On the next launch, the CoLOS Production will open as usual.

Issue 5: Error message "Windows cannot find colos-browser.exe" on 2200

Production Terminal
Cause
The cause of the problem might be an incomplete upgrade within the same minor release of CoLOS (e.g.,
upgrading from version 6.3.3 to 6.3.11), which results in the existing version of CoLOS being uninstalled and
the newer version not being successfully installed (e.g., due to power failure or canceling the installation).

Symptom
The CoLOS Production displays an error message stating, "Windows cannot find colos-browser.exe."

Workaround
To resolve the issue, reinstall the CoLOS on Terminal.

Resolving the problem

Refer to the CoLOS Terminal Reinstallation section.

Issue 6: CoLOS Production takes more than 15 minutes to load

Cause
The cause of the problem might be the Windows Security scan of the disk, which consumes significant CPU
resources and slows down other applications, such as CoLOS.

Symptom
The CoLOS Production takes more than 15 minutes to load.

Workaround
To resolve the issue, exclude all the CoLOS-related applications from the Windows Security scanning.

CoLOS applications are now excluded from the Windows Security service, and CoLOS Production will now
load faster.

Issue 7: Error message – Cannot Connect to Server

Cause
The cause of the problem might be that the Internet Information Services (IIS) starts before opening the Mi-
connectivity remoting port, leading to a connection failure to the server.

Markem-Imaje Page 20 of 33
Terminal Troubleshooting Guide REV.:1

Symptom
The user may see an error message saying, "Cannot Connect to server."

Workaround

3. Once done, restart the Terminal.

The CoLOS Production connection failure issue is now resolved and will auto-launch on the system
startup.

Issue 8: Printer disconnection

Cause
The cause of the problem might be that when the user selects the default settings and sends them to the
printer, it causes the printer to disconnect from the 2200 Production Terminal.

Symptom
The printer may disconnect from the 2200 Production Terminal.

Workaround
If you encounter this issue, update the " End Of Line Character" default value to "0".

Resolving the problem

1. On the Terminal, close the CoLOS Production.
2. Open CoLOS Administrator.
3. Go to My Devices ➔ <printer>.
4. To update the "End Of Line Character":

c. Set the "end-of-line character" to "0".

d. Once done, select apply.

The printer disconnection issue is now resolved.

Issue 9: Error message in Quick Configurator – License limit to 1 printer

Cause

Terminal, which exceeds the license limit of 1 printer.

Symptom
The user sees an error message in Quick Configurator stating, "License limit to 1 printer".

minal is preparing to restart.

3. Wait for The Terminal to shut down and restart. This may take a few minutes.

4. After the Terminal restarts, go through the Quick Configurator wizard and enter the number of
printers connected to the Terminal as "1".

The “License limit to 1 printer” error message in Quick Configurator is now resolved.

Issue 10: Error message - Unable to find the bootable drive

Cause
The cause of the problem might be a corrupted boot sequence or files on the disk.

Markem-Imaje Page 24 of 33
Terminal Troubleshooting Guide REV.:1

Symptom
The Terminal shows the error ‘unable to find the bootable drive’ while booting up.

Workaround
Reinstall the CoLOS Terminal ISO to restore the boot sequence and files.

Resolving the problem

1. Download the CoLOS Terminal ISO and create a bootable USB stick:
a. Download the CoLOS Terminal ISO from this link based on your Terminal device (e.g., 2200
Production Terminal and Line Terminal) and CoLOS license.
b. To create the bootable USB stick, extract the .iso file to a USB stick.
To extract .iso files in Windows, you can use Windows Explorer, third-party software like WinRAR
or 7-Zip, or Command Prompt. Refer to the How To Create a Bootable USB Drive guide.
Note: Ensure the USB stick is formatted and the files are stored in the root directory, not in sub-
folders.
