2. Attempt any THREE of the following: 12
a) An R.C.C. beam 230 mm × 450 mm effective is subjected to
a factored moment of 150 KN-m. Calcualte area of steel in
tension and compression zone. Use M-20 grade of concrete
and Fe-415 steel (Assume d' = 45 mm d'/d = 0.1 Fsc = 353
N/mm2.
b) Calculate the area of logitudinal steel for short column of dia.
600 mm with effective length 5m to carry a factored load
800 kN use M-20 and Fe-415 steel.
c) A beam 230 mm × 500 mm effective size carries a factored
bending moment of 200 kN m. of concrete M-20 and steel
grade Fe 500 area used. Find area of steel required.
d) Explain procedure for shear reinforcement in a R.C.C. beam
according to limit state method.
3. Attempt any THREE of the following: 12
a) Determine the development length of 18 mm dia bar and Fe
415 grade steel in compression. If design bord stress 1.4 MPa
are concrete grade M-20.
b) A beam 230 mm × 500 mm effective is reinforced with 4-16
mm dia. on tension side and 2-14 mm in compression zone,
each of an effective cover of 40 mm, use M20 concrete and
Fe 415 steel. Find ultimate moment of resistance. Assume
Fsc = 352 N/mm2.
c) Calculate safe load carrying capacity of short column 350 mm
× 350 mm consisting of 16 mm φ and two bars of 12 mm φ.
Use M 20 concrete and Fe 250 steel.
d) Explain – ‘Over reinforced sections are not permitted as per
I.S. codes’.
4. Attempt any THREE of the following: 12
a) Define characteristics load. Enlist various types of load as per
IS 875 = 1987.
b) Draw a neat sketch of an isolated rectangular slopped footing,
showing all the reinforcement details.

c) Determine depth of an isolated uniform square footing for
300 mm × 300 mm to carry a working load of 800 kN. Find
the depth of footing from B.M. criteria. Consider 8 BC of soil
as 300 kN/m2 and use M 15 grade concrete and Fe.415 steel.

d) Differentiate between one way slab and two way slab –
i) Aspect ratio
ii) Spanning of main reinforcement

5. Attempt any TWO of the following: 12
a) Find the moment of resistance of the beam 300 × 600 mm
deep if it is reinforced with 420 mm dia bars in tension zone
and 2-12 mm dia. bars in compression zone each at effective
cover of 40 mm. Assume M-15 concrete and Fe-415 steel.
b) i) Find load carrying capacity of a column 400 mm × 400
mm in c/s provided 4 × 20 mmφ bars. Use M20 concrete
Fe-410 steel.
ii) State the specifications for longitudinal and transverse
steel for an axially loaded short column.
c) Design a shear reinforcement for a beam of 6 m span having
25 kN/m. udl. Beam size 300 mm × 600 mm. overall 30 mm
cover. The reinforcement consist of 6 bars of 25 mm dia. conc.
M-20 grade and steel 415 goods.

6. Attempt any TWO of the following: 12
a) Design a one way slab with following data width of support =
230 mm, clear span = 4 m, live load = 2kN/m2. Floor finish
= 2 kN/m2 concrete M-20 and steel Fe 415. M.F. =1.4. Draw
a neat sketch of c/s slab. (No. checks are required)
b) Design a reinforced conc. slab 7.55 m × 4.55 m simply supported
on all sides. It carries a live load 3 kN/m2 and floor finish
1.0 kN/m2 use M20 concrete and Fe-415 steel. Sketch the c/s
of slab along shorter span showing steel detail (No. checks)
(ax = 0.104, ay = 0.046 MF = 1.3)
c) Design a cantilever chajja for 1.5 m carrying LL = 2.0 kN/
m2 and FF = 0.5 kN/m2. Use M20 concrete and Fe 415 steel.
Take M.F. = 1.6 check for shear and deflection and development
length need not to be taken. Draw reinforcement detail sketch.
