The Catrina Her Legend and History

La Catrina was created by the Mexican cartoonist José Guadalupe Posada in 1913 as a critique of the Mexican upper class that wanted to appear European. Later, the muralist Diego Rivera popularized her in his work as a symbol of the Mexican celebration of the Day of the Dead, representing the Mexican tradition of honoring the deceased. La Catrina has become an emblematic cultural figure of Mexico that represents the duality between life and death.

We also paradoxically associate 'La Catrina' and 'El Catrín' with pleasure.
