History of Community Nursing

The history of community nursing began in the 14th century with Saint Catherine of Siena caring for the sick during the Black Death. In the 16th century, the first hospitals were founded in Mexico, and in the 17th century, the first visitor associations were established to care for the poor. In the 19th century, the first public health nursing schools were founded, and the roles of visiting nurses were defined. In the 20th century, nursing corps were created.

HISTORY OF COMMUNITY NURSING

14th century

Saint Catherine of Siena during the time of the Black Death, would visit
the patients taking care of cases of minor illnesses and sent to
the most serious cases to the hospital

16th century: (1524)

Hernán Cortes founded the hospital of the pure and clean


Conception of Our Lady, later known as

17th century
Saint Francis de Sales and Juana Chantana founded in
France, a visiting friends association to provide care for
poor people. Among their activities was cleaning

The Royal Order states that "the function of the practitioner will be
