1 PREAMBLE:

CONSTRUCTION OF NEW HOT METAL TRACK PROJECT BY USE OF PILELESS SLAG FORMATION &
CIVIL WORK.

2 PREPERATIONS FOR EXCAVATION

 Before starting excavation work, the area coming under cutting and filling shall be cleared
of shrubs, rank vegetation, grass, brushwood, trees and saplings of girth.

 Masonry pillars if require to be made as a benchmark at a suitable point in that area, which
will be visible from major area as a reference pillar.

 Hard barricading to be done above along the periphery of the proposed excavation area
minimum 1.5m away from excavation line. The barricade shall be made of 40 NB Pipes as
vertical post as well as horizontal bracing of two layers.

 Necessary steps shall be taken to protect and safeguard any drains, pipes, cables and
similar services if necessary

 Diversion of any live underground utility if encountered to be relocate as per instruction &
direction of EIC.

3. Excavation Process:

 Marking of Centre line and excavation lay out over the ground as per the drawing
including of working space for shuttering, concrete works required at bottom of pit and also
add side slopes for deep excavation from the point of safety depending on strata conditions.

 Excavation will commence from outer edge of the strip and proceed towards inner edge.
The work will be set out with proper benchmark, necessary slopes (depend upon the
character of soil) etc. to exact dimension as shown on drawing with due care to working
space. Standard working space will be provided from the outer edge of proposed structure
will be considered during excavation.

 The area of excavation shall be divided into zone wise based on expansion joint or front
available & standard ramp will be provided to take out soil and other construction materials
from pit. Excavated earth to be dozed, stacked as pe instruction of AMNS. Necessary
machineries will be deployed to fulfill the above requirement:

 Excavation to be done with the help of mechanical excavator and rock breaker (Mounted
with excavator of different capacity for hard rock area) normally maintaining a side-slope.
Side slope will be provided with consultation safety, executive in -charges of AMNS.

Ground Levels shall be taken jointly & put signatures on it for preparing JMR before
commencement of excavation.

 The excavation will be kept free from stagnant water by dewatering system. If any
excavation/ foundation gets fill up with water due to rain, seepage or for any other reason,
the water will be removed by pumping and the bottom of the excavation will be clear of all
silt/slush. All water pumped or bailed out during dewatering of pits will be discharge in
drain or suitable area such that no inconvenience or nuisance is cause to the work in
progress in that area or to the other agencies working in that area or causes damage to
property and structures nearby.

 Dewatering system will be done with surface dewatering only. However, surface
dewatering will be planned and implemented during excavation operation. This requires
excavation of one pit and making shallow trench along the excavation pit connecting the pit.

This will allow the sub-surface water to flow into the trench and finally collected into the
pit. Water pumps will be installed close to the pit to pump out the water out of excavation
trench. The size, depth and distance of pits and capacity of pumps will be established as per
site condition and the extent of water-ingress into the excavated area. Water will be
discharged into the existing open drains of [Link], it will be re-assessed after
experiencing the water seepage and ingress into the trench and re-arranged accordingly. The
whole dewatering arrangement to be analysis based on its performance and suitable
modification to be done depending upon that. If well point dewatering to be done at site, it
will be considered as an extra item of work and will be claimed and to be paid to us extra as
per contract terms. As this is a special type of work and we have not quoted that specified
structure where we deployed CDS. we have not considered the cost of well point
dewatering method for lowering of ground water table at at chimney site. Dewatering to be
done to enable work to be carried out at site without compromising safety & quality of work
at any cost.

 The Soil shall be accumulated by excavator time to time for loading over dumpers for
disposal.

 Good soil to be kept a separate place and to be stacked as per instruction of AMNS for
back filling purposes of structures within the plant premises for backfilling purpose.

 No soil will be stacked nearer to excavated pit for filling purposes.

 Competent engineer and supervisor will be nominated for work to be carried out for
excavation work

 Heavy equipment such as excavating machinery will be kept safe distances from the
excavated sides after closing days activity.

 Stairs, ladders, ramps will be provided to enter workers in the excavated pit for further
work.

 Proper illumination will be ensured in work area during night work

 Night duty officer & concern area in-charge / engineer will make a round together of the
work area if the excavation work is going on in night shift.

 Care shall be taken to discharge the drained water into suitable outlet as not to cause
damage to the works, crops or any other property.

 Flag man will be available near excavator machine while excavation work is in progress at
site.
4 DISPOSAL OF EXCAVATED SOIL

Unusable excavated material will be loaded in dumpers / Trucks using excavator or front
loader. Good soil, required for backfilling will be stored at a designated place, as jointly
decided at site
5 Acceptance Criteria:

Excavation will be done as per approved drawing & as per technical specification of AMNS
India.
6 Standards to be achieved:

 IS 3764:1992 need to be followed for safety provision related to excavation work.

Authorized working space shall be special in each case as per Clause [Link] of IS 1200
Part-1.

 All excavations more than 1.2 m will be protected by shoring / benching / safety nets or
angle of repose of soil maintained.

 All pits will be barricaded. Height of barricade to be minimum 1.2 m with intermediate
guard rails at 500 mm interval in horizontal direction.

 All edges will be clear up to a minimum of 2 m No piling up of material on the edges up to

1/3rd the depth of excavation or 5 m whichever is less.

 Excavation pits will be clear of all obstructions / protruding pipes, rods and logs before
working inside.

 In case of rains / dewatering, inspection by the engineer will be carried out to ascertain
faults before start of work in the pit.

 Restricting on movement of vehicles / plants within 2 m from the edge of the pit. If
unavoidable then the work will be deliberately planned with safe procedures and specifically
supervised.

 Signage & cautionary information will be display nearer to deep excavation pit.

 In case of excavation near a source of water, provision of emergency exit, preparation of

emergency plan and close monitoring to be ensured. Periodic rehearsals of emergency plan
to be conducted.

 Protection of side slopes, if any, by pitching / other methods during rainy season.

 Removal of any unstable object / structure from nearby the area of excavation.

 Excavation shall be hard barricaded 1- 1.5 meter away from the edge of the Excavation pit
depend upon the availability of space with signs and shall have red caution signal at night.

 Ramp will be made with an angle not more than 15 degrees shall be made for the
Movement of vehicle.

 Fix the four corners and grid line by Total station as per the approved setting out plan and
closed the traverse and if any error is found it is to be checked and necessary correction to
be done.

 Make survey pillars in site and mark the grid line on above and grid line to be marked on
permanent structure (adjacent boundary wall) for future reference an absence of survey
pillars damage during work in progress.

 After fixing of building periphery line mark the excavation line and take the existing
ground level at 5m interval. Plot all the level on graph paper and take the approval with
consultant and document the same.

7 BACK-FILLING ACTIVITY

Earth obtained from excavation of foundation, like approved soil (by AMNS ) will be used
for backfilling. The earth used for filling shall be free from all roots, grass, shrubs, rank
vegetation, brushwood, tress, sapling and rubbish. All clods of earth will be broken or
removed. After acceptance of foundation work, the space around the foundation and
excavation line will be cleared of all debris, wood shuttering, gunny bags, nails, etc., and

will be filled with earth in layers not exceeding 150 mm. Each layer will be watered,
rammed and properly consolidated, before the succeeding layer is laid. Each layer will be
consolidated to the satisfaction of Engineer. Earth will be compacted with approved
mechanical compaction machines. Ramming shall be done with iron rammers wherever
feasible and with blunt ends of crow bars where rammers cannot be used.

The final backfilling surface will be trimmed and levelled to proper profile as indicated in
the specification and the drawing. In restricted location/areas, if it is not possible to use
rollers because of space restriction etc., tampers, rammer will be used to ensure proper
compaction.
