Answer ALL the Questions
11. A 100 MVA, 33 kV, 3 ph generator has a sub-transient reactance
of 15%. The generator is connected to the motors through a
transmission line and transformer as shown in figure 1. The
motors have rated inputs of 30 MVA, 20 MVA and 50 MVA at
30 kV with 20% sub-transient reactance. The three phase
transformers are rated 110 MVA, 32 KV/110 KV  to Y
connection with leakage reactance of 8%. The line has a
reactance of 50 Ω. Selecting the generator rating as base
quantities, obtain the p.u. reactance diagram. (CO1)

12. (a) Discuss in brief how power system analysis helps in planning
and operation. (CO1)
(b) For the power system shown in figure 2, obtain the bus
incidence matrix Aa, and A. Take ground as reference. Also
determine the Ybus using singular transformation matrix.

If the impedances are given in pu, obtain the Y bus by singular
transformation method.
13. For the network shown in figure, obtain the complex bus bar
voltage at bus 2 at the end of first 3 iteration. Use Gauss – Seidal
method. Line impedances are marked in pu. Given Bus 1 is slack
bus with V1 = 1.00 ; P2 + jQ2 = -5.96 + j1.46 and |V 3| = 1.02.

14. Explain clearly with detailed flow chart the computational
procedure for load solution using N.R method when the system
contains all types of buses. (CO2)
15. Two synchronous motors having subs transient reactances of 0.80
and 0.25 per unit respectively on a base of 480 V, 2000 KVA are
connected to a bus. This motor is connected by a line having a
reactance of 0.023 Ω to a bus of power system. At the power
system bus the short circuit mega volt ampere of the power
system are 9.6 MVA for a nominal voltage of 480 V. When the
voltage at the motor bus is 440 V, neglect load current and find
the initial symmetrical RMS current in a three phase fault at the
motor bus. (CO3)
(or)
16. (a) Mention the approximations made in short circuit studies of
large power system network. (CO3)
(b) Explain short circuit transients on a transmission line.

G1 100 MVA 25 KV X1=X2=0.2 X0 = 0.05
G2 100 MVA 13.8 V X1=X2=0.2 X0 = 0.05
T1 100 MVA 25/230 KV X1=X2=X0 = 0.05
T2 100 MVA 13.8/230 KV X1=X2=X0 = 0.05
