Remote Box is a special tool and is part of Scania's range of lease tools. Remote Box
is primarily intended for work in Scania Workshop Suite (SWS) that is being
performed outside the workshop. It can also be used in tests using SWS during test
driving with maintained connection to Scania's cloud service.

Remote Box comprises a specially designed built-in computer without a normal

monitor. Instead, it has a built-in display with touch function for setting various

functions. The tool has built-in telecommunications and Wi-Fi communication. It also
has USB ports and a network connection (Ethernet).

10. Batteries

Functions

Battery
Remote Box is delivered with 2 batteries. Operating time in battery mode is
approximately 4 hours. Connect the power unit during battery charging. Normal
charging time is approximately 3 hours.

A symbol of 2 batteries in the display shows battery status. Tap on the battery symbol
to see the charge level as a percentage. If Remote Box only has one battery, only one
battery symbol is displayed. If the batteries are not making contact or are simply not
present, the symbol will disappear and a fault code will be displayed instead. If
necessary, Remote Box can be used without a battery, with only the power unit
connected.

The batteries are lithium-ion batteries. Therefore, use of Remote Box in battery mode
is limited at low temperatures. Remote Box has a safety feature with a warning when
the temperature is too low. If the temperature drops too low, it is possible to use a
12/24 V adapter cable or a 240 V power unit. The batteries cannot be charged when
the temperature is too low.

Connector
The device is fitted with a 4-pole power plug for external electric power supply and
charging. The power plug can only be inserted in one position. Insert the power plug
and screw the ring in a right-hand direction until it locks.

Starting and shutting down Remote Box

Switch on the power by pressing the start and shutdown button for approx. 5 seconds.
When Remote Box is ready for use, the display text will read Welcome Scania and
other symbols will appear on the display.

To shut down Remote Box, press the start and shutdown button for approx.
5 seconds. During shutdown, the display text will read Shut down.

Forced shutdown may be of use in the event of a fault where the unit freezes. Press
the start and shutdown button for at least 20 seconds. The display shows shutdown or
switch-off depending on the situation. Once Remote Box has shut down, restart it as
normal.

SIM card
You must have a nano SIM card without a PIN code.
• Insert the SIM card under the rubber cover.
• The contact surface must face the main unit, and the cut-out must be on the left-hand
side.
• Ensure that you close the cover properly afterwards.

Insert the SIM card when Remote Box is switched off. The telecom module for the
APN settings of the SIM card is configured automatically at start. If Remote Box is
switched on when the SIM card is inserted, restart the unit.

USB ports
There are 3 USB 3.0 ports. It is possible to connect VCI2 or VCI3 and a USB key for
SWS, SDP3 as well as other applications.

Ethernet port
The Ethernet port can be used for major software updates. Using an Ethernet
connection may require the firewall to be configured with Remote Box as an approved
device.

Connect Remote Box

Connection to the internet and to the workshop's SWS takes place automatically via
the SIM card. Remote Box comes with both telecom and Wi-Fi modules as standard.
This makes it possible to connect to the SWS cloud service, even if a service
technician is working out in the field.
