before you begin…
You will work in continuous rounds unless noted to turn
your work.
Follow the mallard color changes noted throughout the
pattern to turn Della into a mallard duck.
Use stitch markers to keep your place.
Do not chain at the beginning of each round unless
noted.
Embroidered eye tutorial is at the end of the pattern.
This method is the safest option for children under the
age of 3.
Please see photos for guidance.

Eyes will be embroidered between
rounds 6 + 7 - approx. 4-5 sts apart my favorite eye yarn
1. 2. “I Love This Cotton” from Hobby Lobby

If you do not have a Hobby Lobby store -

any SOFT cotton yarn will work. Make
sure it is soft and easy to work with. Some
cotton yarn can be more stiff than
others.

3. 4. eye tutorial
Grab about 10 inches of black yarn

Step 1: Insert needle into bottom of the head leading up to round 6. This will be
the bottom of your eye.

Step 2: Lead your yarn up and over round 7 for the top of your eye and then
back down to the bottom of the eye on round 6.

5. 6. Step 3: Continue to embroider passes back and forth between the top and
bottom of the eye. You will stay in the same 2 top and bottom spots while
alternating each sides of the eye.

See photos 1-5 for guidance.

Trust the process and keep building the eye up until it is round.

White Details
Grab about 8 inches of white yarn

Step 1: With your white yarn insert your needle through the bottom of the head
and up to the top of the eye. Your white yarn should be in the same top space as
7. 8. the black yarn.

Step 2: Lead your white yarn to the bottom of the eye and lead it back up to the
top of the eye again.

Step 3: Now you will add the pupil. Insert the white yarn into the black of the
eye where you would like your pupil - gently pull
