36.

Three cubes of metal with edges in the ratio 3:4:5 are melted and recast into a single cube. If the
diagonal of the new cube is 12√3 cm, find the edges of the original cubes.
37. A solid is in the form of a right circular cone mounted on a hemisphere. The radius of the hemisphere
is 3.5 cm and the height of the cone is 4 cm. The solid is fully submerged in a cylindrical tub (radius 5
cm, height 10.5 cm) full of water. Find the volume of water left in the tub after the solid is submerged.
38. A cylindrical pencil is sharpened at one end so that the sharpened part is a cone. If the pencil has a
radius of 0.5 cm, the cylindrical part is 10 cm long, and the conical part is 2 cm long, find the total
surface area of the pencil (excluding the base of the cone).
39. A building is in the form of a cylinder surmounted by a hemispherical dome. The diameter of the
dome equals the base diameter of the cylinder. If the total height of the building is 70 m and the diameter
is 28 m, and the building is filled with air, find the volume of air inside.
40. A conical tent is to accommodate 11 persons. Each person must have 4 m² of the floor and 20 m³ of
air to breathe. Find the height of the tent if the height is equal to the radius of the base.
41. A hollow sphere of internal and external diameter 4 cm and 8 cm respectively is melted into a cone
of base diameter 8 cm. Find the height of a cone.
42. A solid is made by joining a hemisphere and a cylinder of equal radius. If the total surface area of
the solid is 462 cm² and the height of the cylinder is 7 cm, find the radius of the base.
43. A hollow sphere of internal and external radii 3 cm and 5 cm respectively is melted and recast into
a solid cylinder of height 7 cm. Find the radius of the base of the cylinder.
44. From a solid cylinder whose height is 2.4 cm and the diameter 1.4 cm, a cone of the same height and
same diameter is carved out. Find the volume of the remaining solid to the nearest cm3.

45. A capsule is in the shape of a cylinder with two hemispheres stuck to each of its ends. If the length
of the entire capsule is 12 mm and the diameter of the capsule is 3 mm, how much medicine it can hold?
46. A solid sphere and a solid hemisphere have an equal total surface area. Prove that the ratio of their
volume is 3√3 : 4.
47. The total surface area of a solid right circular cylinder is 231 cm2. Its curved surface area is two
thirds of the total surface area. Find the radius and height of the cylinder.

48. If the vertical angle and the radius of a right circular cone are 60° and 15 cm respectively, then find
its height and slant height.
49. The central angle and radius of a sector of a circular disc are 180° and 21 cm respectively. If the
edges of the sector are joined together to make a hollow cone, then find the radius of the cone.
50. A tent is in the shape of a right circular cylinder surmounted by a cone. The total height and the
diameter of the base are 13.5 m and 28 m. If the height of the cylindrical portion is 3 m, find the total
surface area of the tent.
