This document outlines the overall assessment structure of the module. It must be read in
conjunction with the relevant Specific Assessment Guidelines for Students
Module outcomes
On successful completion of the module, you will be able to:
1. Discuss the importance of studying history for Foundation Phase teachers.
2. Distinguish between the concepts pre-and-post-Apartheid South Africa.
3. Define South Africa as a geo-political unit / Republic.
4. Investigate the past and present by using independent and collective enquiry skills.
5. Develop essay writing skills by analysing various historical concepts.
6. Identify differences and similarities between political parties during the Apartheid era.
7. Make comparisons between the various Apartheid laws, unions and anti-Apartheid.
8. movements seen in theory with the visual depictions in selected media and in doing so
evaluate the effects of segregation.
9. Engage with a variety of historical sources to formulate ideas of the immediate and long-
term reasons for the dismantling of Apartheid and substantiate them.
10. Participate in group discussions and tasks, communicate effectively in written, visual
and oral form as well as take responsibility for your own learning.

NOTE:
The formal formative assessments listed above must be attempted/submitted to successfully
complete the module. Where an assessment is indicated as “not compulsory”, the weighting
will still apply, and therefore students will be allowed to continue, but a mark of “0” will be
awarded for that assessment.

SPECIFIC SYM ASSESSMENT GUIDELINES – AN OVERVIEW
TYPE DESCRIPTION/CONTENT
Online Test In this task, students are expected to complete an online test.
The purpose of the test is to assess your foundational skills
for doing history. Therefore, the test will be based on content
covered in unit one of this module. Its structure will consist
of multiple-choice questions and paragraph writing
questions based on source analysis.
Assignment This is a PowerPoint and video presentation requiring you to
do a research based on the role played by Cyril Ramaphosa
in ending Apartheid and the sacrifices made by the National
Party and the African National Congress as an effort to
establish a democratic South Africa. Your response should be
supported by evidence (literature).
The video presentation will be accompanied by a PowerPoint
presentation. All the information used should be referenced
correctly using the Stadio referencing guide. The due date for
this assignment will be communicated with students on the
modules CANVAS page.

3. PASS REQUIREMENTS
To pass this module, you must achieve at least 40% in the final summative assessment (FIS) AND
you must achieve an overall final mark of at least 50%.
