Does India need a dictator?

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

The current political [Link] of [Link], layers in decision
making, anarchy. Dictatorship would mean centralised power and faster decision
[Link], country run on whims and fancies of an [Link] on
individuals could be clamped ..etc.. Present a balanced argument for and against
and take up your position on the issue.

Is coalition politics here to stay?

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

Nature of coalition [Link] of elections. No particular party is
getting the peoples [Link] of coalition politics in enabling formation
of government. Flipside of coalition politics- a party with a handful of seats
become [Link] falls before tenure. Fresh elections each time. Suggest
a way out of this problem, for e.g.: once a party pledges support to a coalition,
it will not withdraw its support until it has watched a governments performance for
atleast three years...etc The future -will it only have coalitions, emerging
political trends...etc...

Is India moving away from a secularist state?

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

Define [Link] calls our country such a state, but how things have
changed over the last 50 [Link] of nationalism. Division into majority and
minority groups-e.g. benefits given to minority groups perceived as a threat by
others. Role of non-tolerant neighbors in fuelling fundamentalism. It is a passing
phenomenon. We have the national character to overcome this.. Points along these
lines can be discussed.

Education in India-or the lack of it.

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

Discuss current education system. Discuss our sociological [Link] which
forces kids to drop out to supplement family [Link] circle-poverty due to
lack of education and vice [Link] solutions to get out of this-for e.g.,
governments are doing a commendable job with the midday meal schemes but we need
more of such efforts. Going down further, why restrict it to government alone? why
cant private people, NGOs and other voluntary bodies come forward to do the same?
How about tapping corporate funds for such causes .....etc.

What ails Indian sports?

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

A nation of 950 million, we fail to produce great champions barring the occasional
Vishwanathan Anand or Geet Sethi. Sports system steeped in bureaucracy. Overriding
popularity of cricket leading to neglect in other [Link], sports not
accorded much importance by us as a career. Need to develop sports from the primary
school level- "catch em young". Various incentives to be given to budding sportsmen
like academic credits, sports in lieu of a few other subjects etc. Development of
sports infrastructure, making it amenable and affordable...etc.....

The Age of Information.

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

Today a plethora of sources to provide information-Newspapers, radio, Television,
Internet etc. Information available at the touch of a button. Greater decision
making power to the individual. Also easier decision making for the individual.
Information is the key to ones success today. One who is more informed forges
ahead. The flipside-information overkill. At times deciding is tough due to too
much information ...etc.....

Is Philosophy just arm chair theory?

(This is an example of an abstract topic which is thrown up to students once in a

while by the examiners) The following points could be discussed under this topic:
Talk what you know about this topic . Talk of its relevance in day to day life( or
irrelevance if you feel so..). Talk of its influence in literature e.g. Influence
of Kant on the romantic poets especially Wordsworth or of Bacon, Voltaire et al on
the "Enlightenment" period etc. Talk of its influence in politics e.g. Influence of
Nietszche on Hitler and subsequent genocide during Nazi regime etc. Talk of ethics
and morals and their importance in life. talk of Indian philosophy. the Gita.
Discuss whether we use any of these in our lives and their importance in moulding
our values...etc...
Success is all about human relations

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

The most important skill for success in to have people on your side. One can get a
lot of work done by superiority and hierarchy but one cannot be a leader of men
unless one maintains excellent human [Link] importance not only in
professional life but personal life [Link] and expertise does one no good if
one cannot maintain proper human relations...etc.

Borderless worlds-Dream or reality?

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

Globalisation of [Link] up of the various economies. Cross cultural
exchanges. More and more people getting an opportunity to work in different lands
among different peoples and absorbing a bit of their values and [Link] leads
to greater tolerance and understanding of others' problems. The other side-people
despite all this have nationalistic and regionalist chauvinism. A world divided
into first, second and third worlds. People still talk of "their" economy and not
world economy. Europe has shown a step in this direction with EU but its
feasibility remains to be [Link] while people clamour for globalisation, they
still think only in terms of their national interests...etc...

Quality is a myth in India.

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

The Indian products and manufacturing techniques. Why are we unable to sustain
against global [Link] mindset towards quality. Indian attitude of "chalta
hai" which leads to an undemanding customer which in turn lets people get away with
substandard products and services. Today competition is forcing our industry to
adhere to global standards so we are getting there in terms of quality. Examples of
our software industry which is recognised for its ability to meet global standards
etc. Since the topic is general, we can extrapolate it to our quality of life-the
air , the water , the facilities we have, the infrastructure we have, the services
we get and put up with ....etc......

Education and success-Is there a correlation?

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

This is a topic which provides ample scope for dialectics. One can argue for and
against it. One of the best examples is Bill Gates who went on to become the
richest man in the world despite dropping out of hid education. Closer home we have
the example of Dhirubhai Ambani. What a person learns and what he really wants to
do has no correlation many a times. A person succeeds only if he likes what he
[Link] argument for education will be that, in practice, it is your marks and
qualifications that opens doors for you. While one can become successful without
education, education brings about a richness in one's life. One is able to
appreciate many facets of life due to the extended knowledge that education
provides. It opens a new window and provides a different perspective towards
things, ability to distinguish between ethical and unethical, moral and
amoral ....etc.

We don't learn from history, we repeat it

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

Relevance of history. Reminder of our past telling us what to do and what not to
do. Still we have numerous examples which have occurred again and again for e.g.
Time and again we have had innumerable wars and bloodshed, Hitler made the same
mistake as Napoleon and Napoleon in turn the same ones as Alexander and all the
three wanted to rule the world, countries making similar mistakes in world war II
as they did during world war I ....etc.... But despite this there are also many
examples which have not been repeated ( or rather not brought out to the fore as
they were not repeated). This could mean we have indeed learnt from history and
avoided those mistakes. In fact that has been the purpose of teaching history so as
not to repeat them. Today fear of war is directly due to the record history places
before us...etc....

Indian villages-our strength or our weakness?

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

A typical Indian villages and its myriad problems. Lack of basic amenities and
infrastructure. their contribution to the economy both in goods and services vis-a-
vis their urban counterparts. they could be an even bigger drivers of our economy
if they are made self reliant by improving infrastructure and reducing the general
disparities between cities and villages ...etc...etc

Agrarian Economy in India-boon or bane

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

Speaking for the topic one can argue the following- time and again it has made us
self reliant in food. This increases our bargaining power tremendously in the world
economy. Internally also food prices can be kept low and this will have a direct
bearing on inflation. This would bolster the economy and provide us freedom from
world bodies and other nations. Against the topic-agrarian economy is at the mercy
of climatic conditions. A bad summer, monsoon, or winter could bring the nation
down. It will have a spiral effect as increased prices will lead to inflation and
problems associated with it. World bodies and other nations will dictate
terms..etc.... If there were no armies in the world......

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

Wishful thinking indeed! It would be the key element for world peace. There will be
no instrument to wage a war. It will also remove fear and distrust among various
nations. We wont have a defence budget. This means more funds channelised into
other productive areas. Reduced terrorism and very little separatist groups But the
disadvantage could be imposition by one group, anarchy, laissez faire politics,
lawlessness..etc..

Do we need a global policeman?

The role of some countries in "disciplining" others. Assuming on itself to decide

what is right and what is wrong for the whole world. Bullying others into
submission by its sheer economic power. Overriding the brief of world bodies in
world politics C he ta naS Suggest alternatives like more authority to world bodies
like UN etc which is more representative of everyone's interests. More
assertiveness to be shown by other nations to such policing nations . making more
nations self reliant so that we have less of "Big Brother" Syndrome....etc.....

Indian customs-are we in a time warp?

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

Some undesirable practices over a long time. Dowry- prevalent even among the
educated class, Sati- recent example of a lady in North India, Child marriages-
still prevalent in backward areas etc. Reason on why do we still follow such
customs. Traditional subjugation of women-present even in big cities among upper
class society. Allied problems due to such customs- intolerance, fundamentalism,
exploitation, etc Suggest ways out of this like education the masses, indicating
the outmodedness and irrelevance of such practices today...etc...

"How green was my valley........".Are we paying the price of nature?

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

As every one tries to be one up on the other in the race for industrialisation,
deforestation is taking place on a large scale. This effect is more pronounced in
developing countries. It has made a perceptible difference in the last 50 years
with rising temperatures. Global warming. Greenhouse effect. Ozone layer depletion.
El Nino type effects. Similarly it has affected other living beings-both plant and
animals driving many of them to extinction..etc... But people have realised it now.
A lot of NGOs and voluntary bodies are working on it. Infact there is even a Greens
party in Germany which has been winning elections using the environmental
plank...etc....

Management Education-Is it necessary to succeed in business

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

This is again a topic where we can have for and against arguments. There are many
examples of great visionaries and leaders in business who have succeeded without
any formal management education. People have simply done it by their will, passion
and desire. But management education has also produced many bigwigs. A management
education gives a perspective towards analysis and problem [Link] enables one
to take decisions in a scientific manner, it enables you to handle the stress and
strains of a demanding job...etc...

The role of NGOs in economics and politics

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

NGOs have become very powerful today. They have a major role to play in politics as
they swerve peoples opinion. They enjoy a lot of support and goodwill of the
people. They can also make or break a business. They protect the interests of the
people and represent a collective voice against anything that goes against their
interests. Most of the times NGOs are more capable in securing a fair deal for the
general good. Also the NGOs have shown that they are in a better position to handle
social issues than most governments ...etc...

Now the campus recruitment has started in many colleges, here comes another
important step in acquiring that elusive step towards selection - Group
Discussions. I present here a few topics that I have collected which I think will
certainly help you all. These are topics that are generally asked or are likely to
be asked. Along with the topics I have also given the broad points along which
these topics can be discussed.

1. Is coalition politics here to stay?

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

Nature of coalition politics. Indecisiveness of elections. No particular party is

getting the peoples mandate. Advantage of coalition politics in enabling formation
of government. Flipside of coalition politics- a party with a handful of seats
become powerful. Government falls before tenure. Fresh elections each time. Suggest
a way out of this problem, for e.g.: once a party pledges support to a coalition,
it will not withdraw its support until it has watched a governments performance for
at least three years...etc The future -will it only have coalitions ,emerging
political trends...etc...

2. Does India need a dictator?

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

The current political structure. Drawbacks of it. Bureaucracy, layers in decision

making, anarchy. Dictatorship would mean centralized power and faster decision
making. But, country run on whims and fancies of an individual. Freedom on
individuals could be clamped..etc....Present a balanced argument for and against
and take up your position on the issue.

It is a passing
phenomenon. We have the national character to overcome this....Points along these
lines can be discussed.

Going down further , why restrict it to government alone? why
cant private people, NGOs and other voluntary bodies come forward to do the same?
How about tapping corporate funds for such causes .....etc.....

5. What ails Indian sports?

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

A nation of 950 million, we fail to produce great champions barring the occasional
Vishwanathan Anand or Geet Sethi. Sports system steeped in bureaucracy. Overriding
popularity of cricket leading to neglect in other [Link] , sports not
accorded much importance by us as a career. Need to develop sports from the primary
school level-"catch em young". Various incentives to be given to budding sportsmen
like academic credits, sports in lieu of a few other subjects etc. Development of
sports infrastructure, making it amenable and affordable...etc.....

6. The Age of Information.

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

Today a plethora of sources to provide information-Newspapers, radio, Television,

Internet etc. Information available at the touch of a button. Greater decision
making power to the individual. Also easier decision making for the
[Link] is the key to ones success today. One who is more informed
forges ahead. The flipside-information overkill. At times deciding is tough due to
too much information ...etc.....

7. Is Philosophy just arm chair theory?

(This is an example of an abstract topic which is thrown up to students once in a

while by the examiners)

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

Talk what you know about this topic . Talk of its relevance in day to day life( or
irrelevance if you feel so..). Talk of its influence in literature e.g. Influence
of Kant on the romantic poets especially Wordsworth or of Bacon , Voltaire et al on
the "Enlightenment"period etc. Talk of its influence in politics e.g. Influence of
Nietszche on Hitler and subsequent genocide during Nazi regime etc. Talk of ethics
and morals and their importance in life. talk of Indian philosophy. the Gita .
Discuss whether we use any of these in our lives and their importance in moulding
our values...etc...

8. Success is all about human relations

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

The most important skill for success in to have people on your side. One can get a
lot of work done by superiority and hierarchy but one cannot be a leader of men
unless one maintains excellent human [Link] importance not only in
professional life but personal life [Link] and expertise does one no good if
one cannot maintain proper human relations...etc.....

9. Borderless worlds-Dream or reality?

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

Globalization of business. Opening up of the various economies. Cross cultural

exchanges. More and more people getting an opportunity to work in different lands
among different peoples and absorbing a bit of their values and culture. This leads
to greater tolerance and understanding of others' problems. The other side-people
despite all this have nationalistic and regionalist chauvinism . A world divided
into first, second and third worlds. People still talk of "their" economy and not
world economy. Europe has shown a step in this direction with EU but its
feasibility remains to be seen. So while people clamor for globalization, they
still think only in terms of their national interests...etc...

10. Quality is a myth in India.

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

The Indian products and manufacturing techniques. Why are we unable to sustain
against global competition. Our mindset towards quality. Indian attitude of "chalta
hai" which leads to an undemanding customer which in turn lets people get away with
substandard products and services. Today competition is forcing our industry to
adhere to global standards so we are getting there in terms of quality. Examples of
our software industry which is recognized for its ability to meet global standards
etc. Since the topic is general, we can extrapolate it to our quality of life-the
air , the water , the facilities we have, the infrastructure we have, the services
we get and put up with ....etc......

11. Education and success-Is there a correlation?

The following points could be discussed under this topic:

Marriage - a beautiful journey
Marriage is a beautiful journey in which two individuals promise to be their for
each other in all walks of life. On this moving wheel of life two different souls
always have to give their support, concern and trust to bring beauty, charm and
smoothness in their relationship.

In this relationship, nothing is about you or me; everything is about we.

Success can be of one, but celebration is for both. Problem can be of one, but the
solution will be by both. This is the beauty of this relationship thats supposed
to be maintained by mutual efforts of both.

All important decisions are to be taken mutually because each and every decision
will influence both the lives equally. The most significant thing which a couple
should take into account is the togetherness and the compatibility, which both of
them share. This compatibility will help them to remove all the obstacles in their
life and live it in a smoother & loving manner.

One should act like a support system to his/her soul mate. If the person is in
trouble then other person should be there to hold him/her from falling.
Marriage is not about living with someone perfect, but it is to be with one who can
share your incompleteness and mutually make it complete.

Marriage is a journey, which the couple, bride and the groom are supposed to cover
together, with each others support and consent. The steps covered, the decisions
taken should be in agreement and approval with the life partner. Marriage is a
bond, of two beings, a bride and a groom, shared for a period, which is lifelong.

Android and its exponential growth

Let me start with 1st topic:-

Anna Hazare's anti corruption movement

Why such movement:-

Anna hazare's anti corruption movement reflects intense desire of masses, a need of
strong Independent India and dream of sustainable development. Yes, by all means
India is free country today, free of colonial power but is it really so?

Colonial power is replaced by aristocratic privileges of politician, bureaucrats &

Government bodies todays. But the effects remain the same - suppression of rights,
use or right word will be abuse of power for their personal advantage. Liberty,
freedom, right are just the words written in constituent or are these really being
materialized? Third laws say for every action there is reaction equal in magnitude
and opposite in direction, Corruption movement is the answer, is the reaction.

Strong points of movement: -

Anna hazare's corruption movement stirred echo of common people, poor or rich. The
strength of the movement was the echo of common people who were beyond ethnic
disparities or multiple layers of nationality.

Jan Lokpal Bill:-

The core of corruption movement is the demand of Jan Lokpal bill and yes the
rejection of so called "Lokpal Bill". On stake is their effectiveness. The movement
became the voice of contradictory opinions. It reminded me a quote in Geeta - "yada
yada hi dharmasya , glanir bhavati bharata " meant Whenever and wherever there is a
decline in religious practice, O descendant of Bharata, and a predominant rise of
irreligion--at that time I descend Myself.

Now the question arises why it is not acceptable to democratic leader of India? The
reason is that it will give more power of public rather than government. Corrupt
politician will not be able to survive in transparent and enhanced governance, I
believe so.

Weakness:-

Even if Jan local bill get into full-on action on paper, the implementation in
reality is all together a different ball-game. Removal of corruption from roots is
not a one-day task or one-day-legislation-reform but it is a process.

Conclusion:-

Corruption is rooted deep into mind. Severe punishment for corrupt will surely
cause fear into mind but if fear is so powerful that it will work like a full stop
for greed, still form a foundation for further discussion. Yes, for sure today this
movement is beginning but end is still so far. Anna hazare and their followers or
rather I will call Day-dreamers of India have a still long pavement to reach on.
A brief point.
The Mindset: You would have noticed the prevailing temperament that rule-breakers,
the outlaws are potrayed as 'studs' amongst the youth. If you defy a rule, disobey
a law your image remains positive. That could be even for something like drunken
driving. One's stories of drunken driving and evading the cops are exalted as war
stories.
Reason: This has percolated down from the colonial ages when the British used to
set the rules for us. Breaking those rules and disobeying those rules was the de
riguer in those days, which is understandable. Unfortunately, that has seeped into
post-independence India as well. The perpetrators are treated not with contempt,
but with a degree of awe.

Some points, I believe, some loopholes are in Jan Lokpal Bill:-

Monopoly:- No government is entirely free of corruption. It doesn't mean that we

should accept it. But to give immense powers and by power I mean Lokpal have power
to initiate prosecution against anybody, then police power that Lokpal can file FIR
against anybody and so on to a three-member body is not seems a viable option. It
will work like a system of dictatorship and what will be the difference between
autocracy and democracy. I am not saying that to restore democracy we have to be
corrupt but my point is just that if anybody is morally not so strong in Lokpal,
he/she can abuse his/her power as well as. Who will ensure that they are not needed
any scrutiny.

National Security:- PM comes under Lokpal is not an ultimate solution. Says, if PM

is facing corruption charges, our nation become feeble to all the world. They can
take advantage of our situation. It will become a power game and soon Nation will
turn into internal battlefield. Then main concern is security. Might PM is not good
but then the solution will be a strong, non-corrupt PM not Lokpal's microscopic
views.

Punishment:- Life imprisonment for god sake for corruption, then what will be the
difference between murderer and corrupt.

My point of views is just be realistic. I understand that being realistic means to

be blind but on-paper & being implemented is different.

By corrupt just not means that you don't take bribe or money, it also means that we
morally are not week, don't hurt others.

Corruption that directly affects all the people is the ones that are happening in
register offices, RTO offices, police stations.. These are the ones that needs to
be eradicated immediately.. So, if a person is identified as corrupt in these
areas, they should be expelled from the office and they shld be imprisoned.. Death
sentence for corrupt person is too much..

Nowadays, its difficult for an uncorrupted officer to survive in our country

because they are being forced to help the wrongdoings, accept recommendations,
accepting bribes,.. they are forced by higher officials citing the reasons such as
dismissal, transfer,.... So, stringent rules has to be brought in for all the
activities that are happening in the government sector..

every activity in the government goes thru several stages before execution. so, if
the lowermost officials are uncorrupted; automatically person who is superior to
him will turn down d bribery offer.. he has no other go.. this way the entire
system will turn to normalcy.. its a slow but effective process i suppose..

Opinion:-

A new technology opens door for another one. Android will change the traditional
ways of using mobile - for call, for SMS, music, Social Networking, FM and so on.
It will change the way we search for Information. Now mobile will find direction
locate nearby hotels, petrol pump and so on.

will reduce the cost for software and further it result into moderately priced
mobile with high connectivity & smart features.

Lifestyle :- Andriod is fashion statement among youth.

Answers to some of the questions put forward ( in the sheet )

What would be the various instruments/important terms associated with stock markets
or basic finance that one would need to know?

Basic Finance Terms

Balance Sheet, P&L Account and cash flow ( Just the definitions )
Types of Markets ( different ways of classification)
Derivatives, IPO, M&A, FDI, FII

Still do not understand how Foreign Exchange works. Consider India & US - and
consider we've never traded before, now how do we equate Rupee and Dollar?

Exchange rates are determined by Demand-Supply of the particular foreign currency.

Sources of supply :
1. Exports
2. Remittances
3. FDI, FII
Sources of Demand
1. Imports
2. Travelling abroad , Investing in foreign markets

Sudden Depreciation of INR

It has mostly been caused by the FIIs. They have been pumping in USD into the
booming Indian equity market. But now the FIIs have pulled out a huge amount of USD
because
*?Indias growth expectation lowered ( latest GDP growth projection at 6.9 % )
*?Worsening Euro crisis increases the credibility of the USD. Investors would like
to hold more USD as a safe bet and less Euro.

If the economy is short of money, why can't a Central Bank just print out currency
notes? What factor decides how much currency should be printed?
The cost merely printing money and handing out to citizens is not a viable monetary
supply mechanism because it leads to inflation and in worse case hyperinflation
( like in Zimbabwe ).
Seigniorage is the value generated by printing money. Seigniorage is also a minor
source of revenue for governments.
AFAIK, RBI issues currency notes to replace depleted notes. Like it had done
recently of Rs 1.76 lakh crores.

Can u plz further elaborate why RBI is failing?? You said it is failing because it
is concentrating on Demand while the problem is with supply. Need more info on
this. Can you give an example?
On the basis of constraints an economy can be
*?Demand Constrained: US , at the moment, the EU and other developed economies are
an example of this. In those countries, the demand has almost flattened. In line
with flat demand, monetary policy in such tends to boost demand by reducing
interest rates and other such measures.
*?Supply Constrained: India and some other developing nations are an example.
In India, there has been considerable supply shortages in electricity and steel
industry. Growth in these industries have been very sluggish. Such supply
constraints in capital goods is detrimental. Also due to rising income, more people
prefer protein-rich foods which has resulted in supply imbalances in that front as
the FDS is not capable handling this change in demand. You can see report on this
in HT Business 30th December 2011 where they mentioned even though overall food
inflation dropped to 0.8 % prices of meat, eggs, milk etc had risen by 10-12%
average.

Instead of managing supply , RBI decided to reign in aggregate demand. This has
been vastly criticized, mostly by the Mr. Kaushik Basu ( Chief Economic Advisor ).
If the problem is in the supply side, bringing down demand will hamper GDP growth.

GDP Formula ( Dont go into much detail of this formula. Its not required now )
GDP = C + I +G + NX
C = Consumption by households
I = Investments by businesses
G = Government Purchases
NX = Net Exports

Can you please explain basics of finance industry. (Nifty, Sensex, BSE, NSE,
stocks, shares, diff types of mutual funds, basics of income tax etc)

A financial market is known by the type of financial asset or instrument traded in

it. So there are as many types of financial markets as there are instruments.
 Stock Markets
 Debt Markets
 Derivative Markets
 Commodities Markets
etc
Stock markets are markets where stocks, also called shares or equity, are traded.
Stocks are traded on exchanges, such as the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the
National Stock Exchange of India (NSE), the London Stock Exchange (LSE), and the
New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) etc.

An index is a basket of stocks that represent the market as a whole. The stocks are
selected from across industries making it a well diversified index. Stocks of
leading companies in each industry are selected based on certain criteria, and are
included in the basket. The NSEs NIFTY and BSEs SENSEX are the two main stock
indices in India.
The value of the basket is determined on a daily basis. In India, we use the market
capitalization
methodology.

Market capitalization (cap for short) = market price * number of outstanding shares
of the company.

For example the market price of TCS is say INR 2000 today, and the number of issued
shares of
TCS is 80 lakhs, then:
The market capitalization of TCS would be
INR 2000*8,000,000 = INR 1600 Cr

Mutual fund is a means for pooling the resources and investing funds in securities
in accordance with objectives of the scheme. Investments are made across a wide
cross-section of securities and industries, thus reducing the risk through
diversification.
The performance of a scheme of a mutual fund is measured by Net Asset Value
(NAV).
Mutual funds invest the money collected from the investors in securities. NAV is
the total market value of these securities divided by the total number of units of
the scheme on any particular date. NAV is required to be disclosed by the
mutual funds on a regular basis - daily or weekly - depending on the type of
scheme.

Types

Based on Investment Objective

1. Growth / Equity Oriented Scheme

Growth funds provide capital appreciation over the medium to long-term by
investing a major part of their corpus in equities. Such funds are comparatively
riskier. Higher risk, higher return

2. Income / Debt Oriented Scheme

Income funds provide regular and steady income. They invest in fixed income
securities such as bonds etc. They are less risky compared to equity schemes, but
the growth opportunities are also limited. Their NAVs are affected by changes in
interest rates. Lower risk, lower return.

These are some of the classification. There are whole lot of types apart from this.
I do not think you so much of knowledge for GD/PI prep. If it is your interest then
you can read that up from various online sources.
I had taken a session on US Debt crisis and Euro crisis at CL where I had told the
students that the US Debt crisis is hardly a complex issue to understand , atleast
for the GD/PIs.

Some info on Debt Crisis

1. It has been raised more than 60 times since the 1970s
2. As the debt nears the ceiling , it creates a panic because we are looking a
'potential' US default. Since US is the world's strongest economy and also the
largest, a US default will have severe implications for people, banks,
organizations and other governments who have invested in US hoping to get a steady
ROI.
3. Also USD is the most widely held currency. It is held primarily as reserves by
central banks. It is also the trade currency.
4. Even when there was a debt ceiling breach scare, the yields of US bonds did not
fluctuate much because the investors believed there is hardly any other instrument
which promises safer return than the US bonds
5. The debt ceiling breach also scared the investors because after the breach it
becomes a political process of raising the ceiling more than an economic process.
So, after the breach the Fed does not play a role but you have the Senate and the
House of Reps being brought into the scene. Eventually the US Prez must sign and
approve and ....it becomes a concern for the investors as to how long will it take
for the ceiling to be raised and how much will it be raised by

Are we raising a generation of burnt out children?

Favour
* The reason for pushing the children hard today is to nurture them to face the
competitive world tomorrow.
* Developing talent is not a sin, it will help the child in his future.
* It is a trickledown effect from the kind of competition experienced for entry
into engineering colleges, graduation and others.
* as Darwin said that most eligible can survive it is only the way to make the
children able so that they can survive in the sea of humans.
Against
* The basic needs of childhood are, time to play, place to play and explore the
world through his eyes.
* In the name of competition we are raising fatigues children.
* The stress is resulting into children engaging in all kinds of derogative acts.
Conclusion
* It is true that competition is growing day by day but child hood is age for
playing making friends so parents should let their kids to do the same.
Advertising is all glitter and little truth.

Favour
* The stars promoting the product most of the time dont take its responsibility
moreover they not even use the product.
* Advertisers have to depict what the customers like, enjoy keeping in mind the
clients requirements.
* As the products increase and so the ads, glitter is a way to ensure brand recall,
a very important factor for the advertising firms.
* Most of the time companies over showcase their product qualities which is not
fair.
* There are lot of examples like a person eat a chew gum and become so cool that
girls start following him or take example of a famous perfume where if guys use
that perfume girls start running behind them all these are totally fake.
* Advertising is a business and not charity. Companies hire advertisers for their
promoting their products and it is not vice versa.
Against
* Advertising firms carry responsibility of providing customers with unbiased
information about products.
* In order to have a healthy bottom line the ad firms cannot shun their
responsibility towards the society.
* Ad firms have to develop the ethical content into their processes to ensure fair
deals.
* There are advertisement available which show the notice that it is medically
proven or they are having proof.
Conclusion
* Advertisements are somewhat made to attract the customers and some time they
might only glitter but sometimes they are also true
Is bureaucracy a hindrance to economic reforms in India?

Favour
* The system in which these bureocrats works includes the politicians and other
factors which is affecting the decisons made by the bureocrats in a huge way . So
basically as human being every body is thinking about [Link] are taking
decisons of there own benefits.
* As the laws have not changed significantly, bureaucrats still play a major role
in the process of a business.
* The way to successfully implement the reforms is to reduce the amount of
paperwork and red tape involved.
Against
* Bureocracy is not at all hindrance because someone has to play this [Link] is
necessity.
* Bureaucracy is a necessity no doubt, to have control over the activities of the
private sector.
* Rules and regulations that are laid down have to be implemented and the masses
have to be looked after which is not possible without the help of bureaucrats.
* As a company requires people to run the business, government also requires
bureaucrats to run its affairs.
Conclusion
* Burreaucracy is not a problem but the problem is the system in which these
bureaocrats work makes the and corrupt and problematic for the [Link] is to
make process more transprent and decision making should be lottery based or based
on a group of people rather depending on single person.

Film-makers are indulging in cinematic Fortitution in the name of folk culture.

Favour
* Movie released in theaters is a result of what the producer and director along
with his crew put together. The producer being the investor and the director the
creator it is left to them to decide what they want to create and produce.
* The producer and the director take a gamble trying to woo the crowd by showing
what they want.
* Current trend in movies is towards folk culture, which may fade away soon.
* The producers are distorting the history and represnet in wrongly in front of
viwers for sake of money.
Against
* Film makers are prmoting our values and traditions by these movies.
* If the movie is on folk culture then it should elucidate the beauty of the
culture and there should not be any masala added to lure the audience.
* Folk culture is to be preserved in its natural and an inheritance should not be
used to make money out of it by depicting the same in movies.
Conclusion
* It should ok if filmamakers are making folk movies but one thing they should kept
in mind they must not present wrong facts in front of viwers.
Under Indian parliamentary democracy it is impossible to ensure balanced regional
development. (IIMC)

Favour
* The fundamental principles of democracy preach to ensure balanced regional
development.
* Uniform representation in the Lower House by MPs from all over the country is to
bring out regional problems and demands of people from across the country.
* Constitution is completely unbiased for any kind of regional growth
Against
* The government tends to be biased towards vote banks while making and
implementing policies.
* The minorities are usually left out in the power game and all the agitation by
various minorities is an example of the lopsided development.
* Most of the important people of our country stays in metros or frequently visits
metros so the expect the better facilties there so they them selves take such
decisons which prmote the growth of only metros whereas rest of india being
untouched with growth.
Conclusion
* The Democracy and constitution dont support any kind of regional bias but
politician them selves only biased.
Corruption is the main outcome of democracy in India.(IIML)

Favour
* The fact that the system provides equality to everyone ,from whatsoever
background and competency makes it easier to play around loopholes in the Indian
Statute
* Democracy not play a direct role to prmote the corruption but it give power to
the people who could be non capable and have there own aims and shelfishness.
* Democracy not play a direct role to prmote the corruption but it give power to
the people who could be non capable and have there own aims and shelfishness.
* In damocratic system a person is chosen by other [Link] procedure could be
faulty because human being can be motivated trough the means of greed,or fear.
Against
* The risk of Democracy is a systemic risk ; corruption is a personal equation and
holds good or bad depending on an individual's and organization's personal value
systems. The two should therefore not be construed/ read as a cause- effect
relationship.
* Democracy give choice to people to select the leaders on the basis of there
capabilty and [Link] people choose the wrong leaders then that is not the
problem with democracy that is the problem with people.
Conclusion
* The democracy dont support the curruption at [Link] the people them selves are
greedy and selfish who are motivatd for corruption.

In an over-regulated society corruption is inevitable.(MICA)

Favour
* Forcing human mind to follow the rules which are unnecessary and biased make them
revolutionary and they move towards revange and corruption is one of the way to
take that revange form governement.
* Few people believe laws are made to be broken so this is case of the economic
phenomenon of regulatory arbitrage
Against
* corruption is a personal equation and holds good or bad depending on an
individual's and organization's personal value [Link] , like democracy
is a systemic phenomenon ;Both have nothing to do with each other.
Conclusion
* Over regulating simple things of daily life can create problem in daily life but
regulations are must to run the complex morden life .
For the poorer sections of society, a state controlled economy is better than a
liberalized economy

Favour
* China is biggest example of success of state controlled economy.
* In libral ecnomies richer become more richer and poors are getting more poor.
* A controlled economy will result in proper flow of benefits towards the rural
masses.
* The state has control over the production and the markets helping the poorer
sections to avail benefits which they otherwise would have been deprived of.
Against
* The state controlled economies are big problem in the path of growing business in
country which will surely affect the country's growth which eventually affects
poors.
* Russia is biggest example of failure of state controlled economy
* The communist countries are a bright example that state controlled economies do
not result in uplifting the poor.
* As history stands a proof state controlled economies have higher rates of
corruption and mismanaged economies.
* A liberalized economy with sound regulatory framework will ensure employment and
a healthy economy.
Conclusion
* State controlled ecnomy is having few benefits but from evidances from history
the conclusion is that state controlled economy is big failure.
The money being put into cricket is harming the development of other sports.
(SCMHRD)

Favour
* Every sponser is running behind cricket Getting sponsored to other sports is
difficult, and the players could not have the latest equipment (sport gears).
* Cannot not compete with other countries
* the money flowing in to cricket attracting all the young population less people
intrested in making career in other sports.
Against
* Department of sports or the Sports ministry has a fixed budget and has to
allocate the same to productive use. If the demands from cricket are high the dept.
has no other option but to fund them.
* The number of aspiring cricketers speaks for itself how popular a game it is in
the nation.
* A lot of funding also comes from sponsors who will fund the game that gives them
maximum publicity and in India cricket is no doubt the game.
Conclusion
* It seems true that money in cricket is harming other games because the youths
only want to play cricket due to this money.
The formation of European Union has a drastic effect on India's trade.

Favour
* This may be read in light of trading equations with our biggest partners USA, UK
and Germany where we had miserably failed to bargain given that most of our trade
consumables have import exposures from these nations ; the European Union will
further augment this situation.
* EU-India trade talks began well in June 2007. Indias rapidly expanding role in
the world economy as a buyer and seller make this an important free trade agreement
for the EU, as recent research shows.
Against
* The EU-India negotiations began well in June 2007. But the hard issues are always
left to last in such discussions. The benefits of an agreement for the two nations
are especially hard to quantify given the importance that each places on hard-to-
measure gains in areas like investment and services.
* The EU would mean more exposure to a more stable currency vis--vis the presently
volatile dollar tranche ; this would mean healthier earnings and repatriation .
Conclusion
* Indias rapidly expanding role in the world economy as a buyer and seller make
this an important target for the EU. It would be an agreement well worth having. Of
course, such bilateral progress should come in addition to, rather than in place of
progress in the WTOs current multilateral talks (the Doha Round) but such progress
depends only partly on the EUs stance. From the Indian side, the free trade
agreement would be a move from its reliance on a unilateral liberalisation policy
with extreme reluctance to commit multilaterally.
Women's empowerment will lead to social development.

Favour
* Woman is the base of a [Link] you empower a women, you empower a family.
* Major influence on the children and thus the society.
* Empowerment of woman will give new workforce for society.
Against
* No direct connection.
* Empowerment of woman Will lead to nuclear families and split homes.
Conclusion
* Woman are most important part of society her empowerment is must of rdevlopement.

Computers result in unemployment

Favour
* Computers replace a lot of jobs.
* A developing country like India cannot afford to have computerization at the cost
of unemployment.
* Computers making lot of jobs complex unnecssarily which was going on easyly in
past in manual mode.
Against
* In a Knowledge and service economy computers are a necessity and a must for
development.
* They create more jobs and types of jobs and also have multiplier effect.
* computer cant work in isolation most of the time still they needs human handling
so basically they are facilatating human beings.
Conclusion
* Computer are not increasing unemployment actully they are helping humans to
making complex jobs simple.
With IT replacing middle level management, soft-ware jobs are more lucrative than
MBAs

Favour
* As a software person is having analytical skills which can be utilised in the
management job very well
* In software onsite opportunities makes the income and growth bigger then
management people.
* MBA's cant get exposure and benfits of working Onsite.
Against
* Software jobs are not lucrative like the mba's average income of software middile
level employee is 10 lakhs per annum but an MBa can make around 15 to 20 lakhs per
annum.
* People who wanaa manage other people not having scope in the software field.
Conclusion
* MBA and software both having there advantages it depends on the ,what kind of
opportunity we are getting.
Do you think accent holds you back? Would you prefer everyone speaking uniformly?

Favour
* Communication between people of different languages will be faster and easier.
* No politicization of language base issues.
* No discrimnation on the basis of ascent.
Against
* Loss of traditions.
* With different languages in India, it is difficult to have same accent.
* It is a personal issue, everybody has a right to speak his mother tongue.
* Hindi and English are serving as the bridge for the variety of languages we have
and there is no need to force a common language.
Conclusion
* It would surely make the communication easier but need to analyze its impact in
broadway.

Men resent women power at work place

Favour
* Males want to dominate women in every part of society and work because of there
traditional male ego.
* Its common doubt in society wether woman can become good mangers.
Against
* Its women who avoid power and responsibility in the work area.
* Its woman mentallty who feels that.

Youth in India are becoming greedy by the day

Favour
* Surely the young genration is becoming greedy every one running behind easy money
and dont want to put the efforts to earn it by hard work.
* The youth is getting so much opportunities ,still they want to go to ONsite and
earn money from there they dont want to contribute in nations growth but want more
benfits from government.
* Youth dont want to stay in india they want to sattle abroad.
Against
* Ambition is being misunderstood for greediness.
* The way youth behaved in last decade in india the way they have worked and shown
there qualities made the india one of the biggest contender for next super power.
Conclusion
* The youth some how running behind money but there ambitions and dreams are
acelrated by there own hard work so they derve it.

MBAs should be taxed at higher rates in the country (IIMB)

Favour
* Understandably so in the areas of income and wealth taxes , given their
propensity to earn higher through these routes
* The kind of money the MBA's reciving is huge .so goverment should charge them
more.
Against
* Taxation is a policy and policies are decided for the masses at large. In order
to avoid any discrepancy and bias rates are fixed on income and not on the basis of
profession.
* MBAs and other such professional people are taxed "professional tax". So charging
them again a higher rate is not required.
Conclusion
* Taxation should be based on the income rather than profession
India should be reorganized into smaller states.

Favour
* By dividing the problem in small parts and cooncentrating on the problems
regionvise there are more chances of better growth
* We need governance at small level so that we can manage and regulate the life
more appropriately
* By recognizing the india into smaller states on the basis of
problems(illittracy, poority)can give the chance to goverment to resolve those
problems on those portions of india
Against
* Dividing india into not the solution of the [Link] it creates hatered
and bifurcation between people of 2 states.
* More over dividing on the basis of caste and religion is creating more issues
like minor ,major population with in newly created state
* Even if we divide on the basis of problem We can resolve that perticular problem
but that state again left in total growth.
* The resources of the india become property of that state so other states become
insecure and only people of that perticular reason become more rich.
Conclusion
* Recognizing the india into smaller states is not a good idea
* We can recognize few more states on the basis of problem in that area so that
those problem could be resolved but proper laws should be there
* Dividing the india into smaller states on the basis of caste and religion is not
worthy.

Managerial skills learnt from classroom can never match those learnt from
experience.

Favour
* In class rooms a student only can read books and read case studies which is not
the experience of him so it not imprints in his mind and forget it soon.
* It is a fact that text books can cover only few situations where as real life is
combination of many other difficult situations
* Reading books is just giving students glimpse how they should react in perticular
situation but when that perticular situation comes in real life it depends on his
personality that how he reacts.
* In real life a situation and its memory is combination of reaction, result and
feelings like sad, happyness ,winning loss which become part of human mind forever
which not happens in classroom
Against
* Books cover all the basic situation to describe all the complex situations so
basicly a manager face one of the situation allmost all the time
* Institutes providing the same experience to students by using techniques of drama
and role play in classroom which is a great way of learning real lif problems in
real time scenarios
Conclusion
* Real time experience is always more important then the classroom studies.
* In classroom studies one can learn more using modern techniques of learning.

who is responsible for eve TEASING: Boys or Girl

Favour of (Boys)
* Girl motivate the boys with there body language and sometimes there colothes do
play the role to motivate boys
* Most of the times girl dont react on this kind of activities that might be due to
there shy nature but boys got motivation due to this.
* Girls should reply back or report back to police so if any one is doing this kind
of activities should stop this.
Against of Boys
* Boys are completly reponsible of uch kind of acts.
* But not all boys are the [Link] boys who are illitrate and low class are mostly
doing this kind of activities.
Conclusion
* All the time not boys are reponible but few times girls are also responible.
* Goverment should take strict action against. this kind of people.
* Girls should alo raise therevoice if someone tease them.

Banning smoke in public place is a right decision

Favour of (Boys)
* It is indeed a right decesion it has been trouble some for every one who is not
smoking
* Due to passive Smoking cancer and asthama are part of indian [Link] should
one pay for other people bad habbit
* On the name of peronal freedom we cant allow people to smoke [Link]
kills more people then other drugs like marijuana or snort coke.
* This is extremly unfair for those people who are forced to be passive smokers.
Against of Boys
* Banning smoke in public places is dminishing act for our personal freedom.

heart problem and cancer.
* Government should implement the rule strictly
* Governement should raise the price of TOBACO products.

Criticism...is good

Favour("Criticism...is good")
* The good form of criticism is known as constructive criticism, it offers valid
feedback both positive and negative.
* a constructive criticism can lend much needed assistance to an individual by
giving them feedback on things that can be improved and issues that can be avoided.
* a constructive criticism can also help establish your credibility and expertise
by ensuring that you know what youre talking about, and the people who benefit
from your constructive criticism will be more likely to credit you in some way or
form for playing a part in their success.
* Constructive criticism can also keep feelings from being hurt by focusing on
things that can be improved while avoiding personal attacks or insults.
Against("Criticism...is bad")
* Criticism can demotivate the peron from moving forward
* Few people use the criticism to humilate the people and influence there image in
bad way.
* Some times a criticism can lower the confidence of a person so the criticiser
should be fair
* Delibrate criticism is very popular in modern society to achieve the selfish
motives.
Conclusion
* every form of criticism constructive or destructive affects a person one way or
another, it will either motivate him to try harder or deflate his enthusiasm, so it
depends upon the person to whom that criticism is directed how he takes it. but it
calls for introspection on his part to do that with justice. if you have someone
who's trying to take you away from your path to success and intentionally trying to
just ruin your chances for success you can label it constructive and if someone is
criticizing you for your betterment and asking you to quit your bad habits them you
can label it otherwise.
* Lord Gautam Buddha was in deep meditation. At that time, a person came near him
and starts abusing him. He starts criticizing and abusing Buddha badly. But he was
surprised to see that there was not even an iota of change in Buddha's expressions.
He was as calm and smiling as before. That person gave up and started apologizing
for his mistake. He then asked Buddha, "Lord, how is it that you were not offended
by my abuses and criticism?" On this, Buddha said, "Dear, I never accepted what you
said. So that way your abuses and bad criticism was back to you. Then why should I
feel offended?" So true, isn't it? Anyway, we're nowhere close to Lord Buddha. But
we can definitely follow what he said. Often we get offended by others' bad remarks
and destructive criticism and feel bad for no reason. If we don't accept their
words, see how insulted the other one will feel!

Should INDIA Change Its National Game?

Favour
* indian national game should be cricket because it has just become the craming
line that our national game is hockey. no-one knows the name of their players and
about their match schedules except few one. change is the requirement of today. if
we do not change anything we can not progress.
* The National game should be the choice of the nation which is cricket.
* if Hockey is not able to create any sensation among the youths then its not our
fault. It's the weakness of the game.
Against
* lready cricket is religion in india and none of the sports is as famous as
cricket in [Link],other sports like hockey should be encouraged not it should be
pushed [Link] national game is changed then it may affect the performance of
hockey players........
* no today we change national game, tomorrow national anthen, then pledge n it will
go on this is not the point.
* I don;t think we should change the national game just because we lost some
matches or not many knows their players name...!!!! I don't know what is the
criteria for selecting a national sport...
* just because present hockey team is not performing like what it used to,we should
not conclude that their days are gone , instead gov. should pay attention here and
provide them proper facilities to regain their position
* just because present hockey team is not performing like what it used to,we should
not conclude that their days are gone , instead gov. should pay attention here and
provide them proper facilities to regain their position
* Games are seen for fun . n i think hockey is also a lot of fun, as is cricket...
* Game dosen't bring [Link] and people makes the game [Link] a fact
india is having 1/6th of world's population and only one game is [Link] as
is in other countries like china, usa rusia all game have equal importance and
popularity.
* In biggest coutries like USA russia china cricket is not popular so if someday
become unpopular in india u will again ask for some other game
Conclusion
* National game is related with identity of nation it can't be change.
* If we are feeling patriotic on this issue we should morve forward and try make it
popular .Businessmen can sponser [Link] can watch it and motivate there kids to
join thi game and government can facilitate the players.
* India should perform best in its national game.

Should India stop trade and all relations with pak?

Favour (Yes)
* definitely india should stop trade & all other relation with pak unless they they
any +ve step against the terrorism.
* As we can see india is not able to take any actions against [Link] atlease
they should take such kind of actions
* What is the use to make good relation with such country which is playing such
kind of consipracy and eager to kill our people
Against (No)
* Stop talking or trading is not the soulution of the problem we should help the
people who are still peace loving in pakistan
* Our fight is with few people of pakistan(Politicians,Extrimists,ISI).not with all
the people of pakistan so we should not punish those people.
Conclusion
* Pakistan should be punished for whatever it did with indian people in last 3
[Link] not on war level we can take action on diplomatic level and try to
isolate it.
freshers are better then laterels

Favour (Yes)
* Frehers have more enthusiasm and energy and motivation
* Freshers comeup with new inovative ideas to the organization
* Freshers not have pre assumptions so they come up and fight the challenges and
try to change the [Link] the experience people are filled with the
preassumpions so they want to tackle things in routine way
Against (No)
* Fresher also be needed to get trained from the laterels as experice is also need
in the business matters where it to critical for the freshers to take the decision
* Laterals have the experience to deal with the situations which could affect the
buisness
* Laterals had been freshers at some point of time so they have the equal energy
and and ideas at past.
* Laterals are very important for consistant and smooth running business beacause
reinventing the wheel approach has to be used if only freshers will work.
Conclusion
* Freshers are very important for junior level where as the laterals needs for the
higher level of the [Link] should be proper mixed of freshers and laterals
for every project.
western culture adopted by india fair or not?

Favour (Good)
* culture is nt any hard n fast rule,,changes r law of nature,,so if indian want to
adopt sm good things of western ,,so its totally acceptable..
* western culture has various practices n knowledge which r very important to
update our knowledge with this fast changing world
* adopting the good practices of any culture is always fruitful
* .sending parents to old age home is not a western thing...its by nature..if it is
amoral to send parents to oldage homes then y r they set up...there shdnt b ne old
age home in our country.
Against (Bad)
* There is a big diffrence between modernisation and [Link] wear
Jeans, T-shirts, Gals wear short skirts, tops, jeans etc and feel that they are
modernisation... wat they are doing is Westernisation - copying what people are
doing there... this is not modernisation...Modernisation takes place in Mind rather
than in clothes.....
* adopting western culture is bad, I say that its good if we adopt the goood things
of that.. Copy their way of living, their way of conducting themselves
* Adopt the culture but dont forget ur own culture.... like the people rarely care
for the old ones' there, albiet we do, but nowadays people are getting busy and
they are adopting the means of keeping their old parents in Old Age Home, which is
not our culture
Conclusion
* Adopting the wetern culture is not a problem but one should be very carefull
whatever they are adopting is good or bad as per the current social standars
* Just copying western culture wont work .We should find out the pitfalls of our
culture and try to reomve them like dowery etc
* One's personal freedom always [Link]'s his own choice to adopt or not.

Religion is a private matter and should be no concern of the state.

Favour
* As the religion is one's peronal choice .So he /she should not accept any returns
from governament on the basis of religion.
* State should see each and every person equally not take decisions on the basis of
religion.
* Involving the religion in govenement can slowdown the growth of the nation.
* Bifurcation of people on the basis of religion could increase the dissatisfaction
between other comunities
* If state really feels that a perticular community is having poor or less
[Link] and socials organizations can play the role in that case.
Against
* If one religious community is poor and in terrible state the state should provide
them the more facilities.
* Its not the matter of the religion but if the community is poor state should help
them.
* Religion is the basis of the our whole society so state should make the religion
part of its activities.
Conclusion
* Religion is completly the matter of peronal [Link] should not concern the
religion .State should only concerned about the growth of the people .If state find
any communities are not in proper shape it can give the reservation on the basis of
personal level not on religious level

Is corrupt but efficient politicians better than honest and in-efficient

politicians.

Favour
* Corrupt but efficient politician can sure make a diffrence in indian
[Link] most of our politicians are corrupt and inefficiant.
* The politicians are not able to take care of citizen's benifits because they are
[Link] we have the efficient politicians who are bit corrupt but able to
serve the nations that would change the scenario.
* The in efficiancy of politicians came out in recent mumbai terror [Link] we
have slightly efficiant people we would never such kind of attacks.
Against
* A corrupt poltician can not fullfill his duties even he is efficient because he
will use his efficiency in only his shelfishness
* Where as a honest politician might not be able to perform but atleast he can
improve the current dirty politics and social corruption problem by his honesty.
* How one can be inefficiant if he is performing his duties with honesty.
* Corruption is detrioting the indian society we can not allow a corrupt person as
our leader.
Conclusion
* A person who has chosen by the thouands and lakhs of people must be efficiant but
he should not be corrupt.
* Sometimes he may take some benifts out of the system but he should be honest
towards the befits of the society and people who have chosen him
* Inefficiancy or efficiancy cant be measured But if a person is corrupt it is
leagally un avoidable.s
Beauty contests do little to improve the status of women.

Favour (Yes)
* Personally I think beauty pageants, in general (both adult/children), are pretty
much stereotypical, conceded, and even vain at times. Plus they seem to go against
a lot of minorities. You never see or hear of any overweight beauty pageants
* its up to the women who want to b famous its fine i guess dosent hurt no one
* The real question is how it is affecting the women's status and answer is very
[Link] society is treating them as showpiece in this case
* Now same kinds of compitions for men are there so no need to ask this question
because it is only for money and business nothing to do with woman stature.
Against (No)
* it all depends on what type of pageant the woman is in. i fully agree with
scholarship pageants because not everyone has the money to pay for college and
competing in a scholarship pageant just shows that the girl is trying to make
something of [Link] can use that money to study in the [Link] type of
pagents are present in western countrie like USA
* It helps the girls from all over society to come forward and make a career in the
fasion industry
Conclusion
* WE can not link the beauty contests to status of women in present
[Link] the its up to the woman who want to be famous to join and enjoy
uch contests.
* Such kind of contests are organizing all over the world for men and women both
for making money .

One superpower is better than two.

Favour
* Having two super powers leads to a situation of constant tension between the two
nations and a fight to be on the top. This leads to a cloud of fear covering the
world. The World Wars have been an evidence of the extent to which the human breed
can go to stay in power and to supress other nations. Be it the Pearl Harbour or
the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, the game of Power has adverse effects.
* If twho super power exist then they can indulge in wasting there resources in WAR
and other destructive activities.
Against
* IF you say if we have only one superpower, there will be no nuclear arms race and
terrorism could be controlled, but as we have witnessed since the past century,
after US emerging as the sole power, terrorism has increased.
* If there is one superpower, and it collapses, all other economies across the
world get badly affected, because of the dependency of all countries on one
country. However, this impact can be mitigated, if we have more than one
[Link] wat is happening in current resession.
*
* Having two super power is very necessary for world because it put us in balanced
situation otherwise one power could hurt other countries.
* The compitition between two super power can innovate lot of things the race to
moon between US and rasia has given lot of invention during cold war.
* The existence of one superpower leads to a natural monopoly wherin the leader
becomes complacent to the point of becoming unabashedly cruel , as demonstrated by
USA in Iraq .
Conclusion
o Having 2 3 4 Super power not matters what matters suer powers are putting there
resources in development of humanity rather wasting them in destructive activities.
Women empowerment - A cause for increasing divorce rate in India.

Favour
* Women empowerment stands for empowering women with the legal and social rights ,
education , awareness about self and the world.
* The increased divorce rate can be attributed in part to women empowerment since
women being more aware of their legal rights would not mind walking out of a
violent or unfulfilling relationship.
* as women become more independent financially ,there is a lesser probability that
a women stays in a relationship out of sheer necessity and obligation.
* On the other hand with women doing as well as men if not better the traditional
indian male might find it difficult to have a more succesfull second half.
Against
* previously, males in India might be embarrassed to ask for divorces due to family
pressures and guilt of leaving his wife and children without proper financial
support.
* Laws have broadened the definition of domestic violence to include not just
physical, but mental and emotional abuses as grounds of divorce. These laws have
contributed to many unilateral decisions to walk out of abusive relationships.
Although these laws apply to both sexes, these were meant to be a step towards
women empowerment.
* Influence of Western Culture.. With globalisation, increased communication and
more issues breached on television, increased divorces may have been encouraged
* Lifestyle change: Increased work hours, inter-action between colleagues of the
opposite sex.. These may also lead to divorces although not only from the womens
end... It would be intresting to note whether increased divorce rates are in cities
only or villages also
Conclusion
* women empowerment is not the only cause for the increase in the divorce rate. It
is also the change in the social and family structure. Inclination to nuclear
families, work pressure, lesser adjustment and a declining trust to the institution
of marriage.
MNS-cultural bullying / Localization
Favour
* Local groups are helping local people to have their rights so they can grow and
achieve same status as other people
* Local groups are only trying to stop migration of people from villages to city
which should be contrlled by government but government is not taking any action
because they are getting votes from the migrated people.
* Local groups want to take firm action against the different antinationalist
elements who are growing due to lethargic action of government.
Against
* Actions taken by this group hurting sentiments of peoples of other parts of
country.
* India is free country where anyone can move anywhere and decide its own destiny.
* Government spends billions of rupees to develop infrastructure in metro cities
that has been taken as TAX from all over India so everyone should have equal
opportunity.
* It is another try of breaking our country on the basis of caste and religion.
* Violence is not at all the solution for anything.
Conclusion
It is true the load on metro cities are way to high and government should take
action to control migration from villages to these [Link] or any other local
force should take positive step rather going by way of violence to achieve growth
and benefits for the local people. India is a free country everyone have right to
move and make their own destiny.
Mobile phone a ban or a boon.
Favor
* Everyone is available to others for 24x7.
* People say mobiles made life miserable by providing unlimited connectivity but
they don't understand the fact it also provide limited connectivity options like
you can switch of the mobiles.
* Mobile proved life saver for human beings in many areas related with human
health.
* Mobile proved boon for businesses as well where crucial information is at reach
for corporate decisions.
* Mobile phones made life easy for people who are going to distant areas for
expeditions to be in touch with rest of world.
Against
* Mobile phone is hazard for human life as due to electromagnetic waves many people
are suffering health problems of cancer etc.
* Mobile phones give unlimited connectivity for human life which made the life
miserable for people who have been over using the mobile phones.
* Few people claim that user can control mobile usage but in many cases switching
of mobile phones considered as unprofessional so people not able to cope up with
this requirement and over utilizing the mobiles.
* Over utilizing of mobile is ruining social life of people by communicating on
phones rather be in touch personally with friends and relatives.
* Mobile phones also deterring the traditions because people are more busy on
talking on phones on various ceremonies and rituals.
* Mobile phones also deterring the office atmosphere as many employees spending
more time on mobiles rather on work.
* Mobile phones causing accidents because people are using them while driving.
Conclusion
Mobile phone is a great invention but usage of it should be controlled.
Habit and routine have an unbelievable power to waste and destroy.
Habit and routine have an unbelievable power to waste and destroy.
quote by Henri de Lubac
Henri-Marie de Lubac, SJ (February 20, 1896—September 4, 1991) was a French Jesuit
priest who became a Cardinal of the Catholic Church, and is considered to be one of
the most influential theologians of the 20th century. His writings and doctrinal
research played a key role in the shaping of the Second Vatican Council.
Habits are routines of behavior that are repeated regularly and tend to occur
subconsciously, without one's directly thinking consciously about them. Habitual
behavior often goes unnoticed in persons exhibiting it, because a person does not
need to engage in self-analysis when undertaking routine tasks.
A bad habit is a negative behaviour pattern. Common examples include:
procrastination, fidgeting, overspending, nail-biting.
So basically habits are performed by the person unconsciously so many a times it
waste resources .For example suppose you have a habit of overspending so you will
be unconsciously spend lot of of money.
But there are few habits which are good and make people [Link] you
have all the good habits like performing your routine at right time sleeping and
waking up on right time then in that case habits can be very good factor to move
ahead.
The Tetris effect occurs when an activity to which people devote sufficient time
and attention begins to overshadow their thoughts, mental images, and dreams. It is
named after the video game Tetris.
People who play Tetris for a prolonged amount of time may then find themselves
thinking about ways different shapes in the real world can fit together, such as
the boxes on a supermarket shelf or the buildings on a street. In this sense, the
Tetris effect is a form of habit.
The term addiction is also sometimes applied to compulsions that are not substance-
related, such as problem gambling and computer addiction. In these kinds of common
usages, the term addiction is used to describe a recurring compulsion by an
individual to engage in some specific activity, despite harmful consequences, as
deemed by the user himself to his individual health, mental state, or social life.
The applicability of the word "addiction" to these conditions is controversial, and
there is not a universal consensus as to the most appropriate phrase used to
describe these conditions as a class. Commonly used phrases include behavioral
addiction[1][2] and "non-substance-related addiction".
So its true habits and routines have the unbelivable power to waste and destory but
if it can be used in positive way it can change life of a person.
Bad habits of famous people
FDR had at least four predisposing factors for sleep apnea:
A history of polio in 1921 (at age 39). He smoked. He had heart failure. He snored.

Franklin Roosevelt 32nd President of the United States, 1933-1945. Lived 1882-1945.

He who knows how to be poor knows everything.

He who knows how to be poor knows everything
This is a quote written by Jules Michelet.
Jules Michelet (21 August 1798 – 9 February 1874) was a French historian. He was
born in Paris to a family with Huguenot traditions
Being poor is knowing exactly how much everything costs in this world.
Being poor shows you true nature of people.
Being poor is living in a world where no one other then your family likes you.
Being poor makes you appreciate everything you’ve earned
But being poor is also a ray of hope for good days.
By being poor one can see dreams of richness.
By being poor you never face problem of obesity.
By being poor you cann see the world with a perspective that rich people can't see.

By being poor you sometimes has a sense that you dont have much to lose so you may
feel pwerfull.
By being poor you can sleep carelessly because you dont have any thing which could
be stolen.
Being poor is a motivator to never be as poor as your parents.
Being poor is looking back and wondering how you survived.

Foreign Television Channels are destroying our culture.
Favour
* We have a rich and diverse culture. But, western culture doesn't have such values
and social esteem.
* They are spoiling the values and social fabric of Indians.
* Few of the programs which Indian television imported from foreign like big boss
are only weird showcase of family values and they have no moral and social
obligation.
Against
* Foreign channels are serving good or bad programs based on the viewer demand.
* It is matter of personal choice user want to view those programs or not.
* Now with new DTH technology User can subscribe the channels as per his wish.
* New Televisions have child lock which can give control to parents.
* Television is a form of media to create awareness among people and to entertain
people. According to me, nothing is affecting our culture. Nobody is responsible
for that. Each individual is responsible for his or her success or failure. All the
available sources will be a favor or against to us in the way of utilization. If u
looks at it in wrong manner, it is against and vice versa. There r many channels
such as BBC, DISCOVERY, STAR SPORTS, ESPN, STAR NEWS and many channels which gives
us a high standard and gives the information about the nook and corner.
Conclusion
* Foreign channels are only providing the programs. Viewer has full control over he
want to see and what he don’t want to see. A more organized regulation body is
required which can take care obscene and vulgar programs.
Euthanasia: To Do Or Not To Do.
Favour
* Euthanasia refers to the practice of ending a life in a manner which relieves
pain and suffering. According to the House of Lords Select Committee on Medical
Ethics, the precise definition of euthanasia is "a deliberate intervention
undertaken with the express intention of ending a life, to relieve intractable
suffering. "In terminally ill patients and in cancer patients who r undergoing
tremendous [Link] should be done, coz the pain is really unbearable. And also in
people who are terminally ill and who can't afford to pay the high hospital
charges, is it not better that euthanasia is done so as to save the misery of the
relatives who can't pay high medical bills. And terminally ill cancer patients
undergo very severe pain. And we all know how painful the death is .The pain which
he undergoes worth living for a few more days, when he'll be dying on his/her bed
every moment. Isn't it better to free him from that prison of pain and sufferings
if I think about this I feel, it should be allowed.
Against
* It can be [Link] must be strict laws pertaining on whom it can be done.
And the decision should not be given to only one individual…he can misuse. There
must be at least 2 other doctors who should also certify it, other than the
treating doctor.
* People in favor of Euthanasia argue about the vegetable state of a person who
needs the liberation. But the fact is, if Euthanasia is legalized there would not
be any check on the circumstances under which a patient was killed/relieved. As we
all know too well, how easy it is to buy professionals and their opinion. The
intentions of legalizing Euthanasia may be Good but legalizing it would be to
legalize killings. History is witness that legalizing killing (remember the Soviet
gulag, the Nazi concentration camps, the killing fields of Cambodia) has dreadful
consequences. If euthanasia is legalized then suicide must also be. The only
difference is the former is assisted and the later is self inflicted.
* ON dec 21, [Link] Ricco an Italian doctor disconnected a respirator that was
keeping Piergiorgio Welby alive. After Ricco gave him the sedative and switched off
the respirator, Webly smilingly said goodbye to his wife and kids and in 45 min he
was dead. Webly's right to die was widely publicized in Italy. Here two questions
arise: whether a person has the right to sustain life supporting medical treatment
The other is whether voluntary euthanasia. is ethically defensible. But before such
a law is implemented the must be strong legal framework on this; without any
loopholes.
* Science is progressing at a massive rate. At any point of time a drug could come
into the market which could save a person from a “terminal” illness. Every person
desires to live, but in pain he loses the power to understand and decide about his
life and nobody has the right to define someone else's destiny. So euthanasia
should definitely find a way out of our dictionaries.
Conclusion
It could be disastrous law for human race so what is required here is to completely
understand the process and only after that Euthanasia. Decision should be taken not
by the local doctors. Government should deploy a centralized committee consisting
of doctors and law makers and committee should make decision based on
circumstances.
Education and Success - Is There A Correlation?
Favour
* Education is important to be successful. Knowledge, imagination, creativity is
essential to be successful with hard work & luck a lit bit.
* Education is very important for success. Education and literacy are not
correlated, but to be successful the power of mind, creativity, imagination,
dedication, knowledge whether bookish or practical is very important. Being
educated doesn't mean being literate.
* Education here is not only should considered as a school education or academic
education. Some kind of practical or industrial experience is also considered as
practice of knowledge gaining.
Against
* I think education need not be important to ensure success. If basic education is
present with a person along with critical thinking he can buy himself success. But
the society sees a person according to his qualification and not how much he is
earning. Education is important, for the values it inculcates etc., but without
education too one can ensure success if he has the will and determination. Just
being good at math and science does not mean that one is going to be successful!!
* An educated person can be rich but he cannot be socially successful for that he
should have few other qualities.
Conclusion
It is the way you consider education. Basically every person needs to go through
some sort of learning without it he cannot be successful in all streams of life
like social etc.
Valentine day is harming our culture.
Favour
* Valentine day is western festival if our youth really want to celebrate we can
choose any other Indian day for this.
* On Valentine's Day People do a show off of their love in public? Which is not
acceptable to our society and traditions?
* Couples should celebrate it gracefully.
* Valentine day is propaganda of western capitalist society which want to celebrate
all those days where people can come out to the malls and spend their money.
Against
* Valentine day is great day for lovers to celebrate their love. According to
history it's a western festival but now it is celebrating in India also. It's a day
when lovers express their feeling to each other.
* It is a love day when lovers give gifts, red roses, flowers, red stuff toy,
greeting cards to each other. But our great Indian police have developed some
notoriety for suppressing in Valentine's Day. They inspect hotels, restaurants,
coffeehouses, and gift shop on 14th Feb. to prevent couples from giving each other
valentines or other present. The police ban the sale of red roses, red stuffed
animals, red greeting cards and other red items, report store owner.
* One more thing do you know guys Valentine's Day is also called by Saint.
Valentine's Day. I feel V's day has nothing 2 do with d western influences on
Indian culture. India has successfully survived cultural clashes via Hollywood or 4
that matter the various channels coming u like d M TV, V TV etc. We have been
influenced by d west for sure, but at d same time we have retained our values. This
itself testifies d fact that sumthin like celebration of V' day can cause least of
harm to our enriched heritage. The political parties which issue a ban on d V'DAY
every yr.,with due respect to them, should take this aspect into consideration.
They should unnerstand tht a day which calls for celebration of a beautiful thing
like love can cause no harm 2 d society. The concept of V'day shud not be
restrained to sumthing celebrated by lovers. Its way beyond tht...its bout d
celebration of d relationship we share with our family , frenz, or for tht matter
with d society.I dun see ne reason tht such a thing shud be undesirable
Conclusion
Valentines day is a day like other festivals of year where one can show his/her
love to dear [Link] should celebrate it [Link] is not affecting our
traditions and culture.
A ship Docked in Harbor cannot face the storms.
* It means that a ship stop can not reach its destination when it is docked at
harbor. docked ship means that it is safe from storms but eventually it is not
moving. Philosophically a person can not fight and win wars of life without moving
its life. IF a person think that he should not take risk and keep himself safe
always he cannot progress in life. Its not necessary that moving ahead always is
risk. So Human beings should understand the change is natural process and if you
are not moving with nature and not taking risks then you could be safe from storms
but it means you are docked at the harbor not moving in life.
* The topic says that without any effort we cannot able to achieve anything in our
life. If the ship failed to sail in the sea it can't get into it destination
likewise a man doesn’t make an effort in his life he can't able to success even his
small work. When the person face a challenge or problem then only his strength will
comes up. If we are afraid about failure, we can't get the success. Anything it may
be failure or success should be considered same. Let it be as our experience.
* A ship docked in harbor cannot face the storms...there is risk involved but no
success. Of course to get success ship must face the storm and reach its
destination to find success.

Every cloud has a silver lining.

* Topic simply means that every problem has a solution hidden within. so human
should never lost his hope and should fight with problem with full enthusiasm.
* Every dark night there is a nice shiny morning... bad days just like dark clouds
comes in everyones life but the best part is that how you tackle the situation to
overcome the hassle and achieve the silver lining for a fruitful life. Whether its
a happy patch of life or a rough one, one thing we always need to bear in mind is
that it is temporary. Every happy moment is going to end and every sad moment will
also get over likewise. Never give up until you are successful to achieve the given
task in your life , problems comes in everyone's lives we shouldn't runway from
them they teaches us lots of things like how to tackle in life when it comes again
in our life, one should need to be optimistic.

Small Is Beautiful: Economics As If People Mattered is a collection of essays by
British economist E. F. Schumacher. The phrase "Small Is Beautiful" came from a
phrase by his teacher Leopold Kohr. It is often used to champion small, appropriate
technologies that are believed to empower people more, in contrast with phrases
such as "bigger is better".
In industry, we can interest ourselves in the evolution of small-scale technology,
relatively non-violent technology, 'technology with a human face', so that people
have a chance to enjoy themselves while they art: working, instead of working
solely for their pay packet and hoping, usually forlornly, for enjoyment solely
during their leisure time.
The greatest danger invariably arises from the ruthless application, on a vast
scale, of partial knowledge such as we are currently witnessing in the application
of nuclear energy, of the new chemistry in agriculture. of transportation
technology, and countless other things.
It is moreover obvious that men organised in small units will take better care of
their bit of land or other natural resources than anonymous companies or
megalomaniac governments which pre- tend to themselves that the whole universe is
their legitimate quarry.

Small cities are genrating more revenues.
In a welcome development, small cities and towns appear to be doing more to power
India's growth story than big metros. Confirming this are the latest income tax
statistics, which indicate that Tier II and Tier III cities like Patna, Lucknow,
Meerut and Kanpur have far outstripped Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata in terms
of growth in personal and corporate tax collections. In fact, Patna has seen as
much as 95 per cent growth in personal income tax figures over the 2009-10 period
compared to a measly 4 per cent for Delhi and 6 per cent for Mumbai. Such a shift
towards growth driven by regional centres can help mitigate the problems ensuing
from unequal development and, therefore, needs to be encouraged.
The current growth and development model centred on big metros is unsustainable.
Having experienced years of economic migration, these large cities are literally
bursting at the seams. They are left with creaking infrastructure - compounded by
shoddy urban planning - and poor civic amenities, all of which is reflected in the
fast depreciating quality of life. Yet people continue to be drawn to metros due to
the allure of better career prospects. The only way to reverse this trend is to
have multiple growth poles spread across the length and breadth of the country. It
is encouraging that many of the small cities showing robust economic growth are
located in the BIMARU regions. They could serve as magnets for intra-state
migration and take the burden off traditional metropolitan hubs.
As emerging markets within the Indian economy these small urban centres can become
hotspots for new investment opportunities. Many outsourcing companies are already
setting up operations in Tier II and Tier III cities to minimise their running
costs. Conducive conditions need to be created to encourage India Inc as well as
foreign investors to increasingly invest in small cities and townships. Crucial to
this is creating sound infrastructure. There needs to be a significant number of
quality schools and colleges to churn out skilled professionals to cater to the
needs of emerging businesses. This in turn will have a positive trickle-down effect
and galvanise the rural economy of the respective states
In planning these new urban hubs, errors of the past that have given rise to
chaotic and dysfunctional cities must not be repeated. Our metros may have reached
a point of saturation. While they should by no means be ignored, pay attention to
Tier II and III cities as well to continue India's growth story and make it more
inclusive.
Small is beautiful:nano technology
Nanotechnology is the creation of functional materials, devices and systems through
control of matter on the nanometer length scale (1-100 nanometers), and
exploitation of novel phenomena and properties (physical, chemical, biological,
mechanical, electrical...) at that length scale. For comparison, 10 nanometers is
1000 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair. A scientific and technical
revolution has just begun based upon the ability to systematically organize and
manipulate matter at nanoscale. Payoff is anticipated within the next 10-15 years.
Nanotechnology is very diverse, ranging from extensions of conventional device
physics to completely new approaches based upon molecular self-assembly, from
developing new materials with dimensions on the nanoscale to investigating whether
we can directly control matter on the atomic scale.

Growing BIG is boon or ban

Boon
* Growth of indian economy is getting bigger and bigger and it is big boon. India,
an emerging economy, has witnessed unprecedented levels of economic expansion,
along with countries like China,Russia, Mexico and Brazil. India, being a cost
effective and labor intensive economy, has benefited immensely from outsourcing of
work from developed countries, and a strong manufacturing and export oriented
industrial framework.

Ban
* With over one billion people India holds more than a sixth of the world’s
population. It is projected to be the world’s most populous country by 2025.
Surpassing China, India’s population will exceed 1.6 billion by 2050 but India’s
demographics is a dividend. But more than 50% of its population below 25 years of

will be 29 years compared to 37 years for China and 48 years for Japan.

Idea to make India a superpower in 2020.

"A developed India by 2020, or even earlier, is not a dream. It need not be a mere
vision in the minds of many Indians. It is a mission we can all take up - and
succeed." - A P J Abdul Kalam.
The economy of India is the eleventh largest economy in the world by nominal GDP
and the fourth largest by purchasing power parity (PPP).The country's per capita
GDP (PPP) is $3,176 (IMF, 127th) in 2009. Following strong economic reforms from
the socialist inspired economy of a post-independence Indian nation, the country
began to develop a fast-paced economic growth, as free market principles were
initiated in 1990 for international competition and foreign investment. Economists
predict that by 2020, India will be among the leading economies of the world.
a German survey. The result of a worldwide representative survey by the German
Bertelsmann Stiftung says that three-fourth of Indians see themselves as a super
power in 2020.
In distinction, 57 % see the USA as world power, followed by 55 % for China, 32 %
for Japan, 30 % for the EU and 26 % for Russia. India ranks sixth but above the UN,
and the countries like UK, Germany, France, and Brazil.
Presently 12 % of surveyed people rank India as great power. But if counts in
India, the percentage goes to 39 %. ‘Mera Bharat Mahan’ element knocks the heart of
India every time.
As india is a large nation with 2nd largest population few issues still left which
needs to workout to make india super power.
Areas of improvement
* Infrastructure- Roads,electricity,airports
* Education
* Social issues povrty, Corruption,Population
Infrastructure:
Connectivity (Transport):Airports,Roads, Railway network India still working on the
issue to provide connectivity to all based on growing demand for increasing
pressure on exisiting road. It is a big chellenge for india to provide road
connectivity with good quality of roads to rural as well as metro [Link]
metros presusre on roads is very high so either government has to find new meanings
of public transport or make wider and high quality [Link] india becoming a super
power this is big chellenge for indian government.
“A good road network can generate many commercial and social benefits for rural
economies through increasing access to goods as well as services such as health and
education,” said the World Bank’s Country Director for India, Roberto Zagha.
As per the National Highways Authority of India, about 65% of freight and 80%
passenger traffic is carried by the roads. The National Highways carry about 40% of
total road traffic, though only about 2% of the road network is covered by these
roads.
Kingfisher Airlines, Air India and Jet Airways are the most popular brands in
domestic air travel in order of their market share. These airlines connect more
than 80 cities across India and also operate overseas routes after the
liberalisation of Indian aviation. However, a large section of country's air
transport system remains untapped.
Electricity:
India is world's 6th largest energy consumer, accounting for 3.4% of global energy
consumption. Due to India's economic rise, the demand for energy has grown at an
average of 3.6% per annum over the past 30 years. In June 2010, the installed power
generation capacity of India stood at 162,366 MW while the per capita energy
consumption stood at 612 kWH.
Electricity losses in India during transmission and distribution are extremely high
and vary between 30 to 45%. In 2004-05, electricity demand outstripped supply by 7-
11%.
So from above facts one can understand india is legging behind in power [Link]
this is one of the hurdle to india becoming the super [Link] Government of India
has an ambitious mission of POWER FOR ALL BY 2012. This mission would require that
the installed generation capacity should be at least 200,000 MW by 2012 from the
present level of 164,800 MW. Power requirement will double by 2020 to 400,000MW.
Due to shortage of electricity, power cuts are common throughout India and this has
adversely effected the country's economic growth.
Objectives for power sector.
* Sufficient power to achieve GDP growth rate of 8% * Reliable power * Quality
power * Optimum power cost * Commercial viability of power industry * Power for all

Education:
Education in India is mainly provided by the public sector, with control and
funding coming from three levels: federal, state, and local. Child education is
compulsory.
India has made a huge progress in terms of increasing primary education attendance
rate and expanding literacy to approximately two thirds of the population.
India continues to face stern challenges. Despite growing investment in education,
35% of its population is still illiterate; only 15% of Indian students reach high
school, and just 7% graduate. As of 2008, India's post-secondary high schools offer
only enough seats for 7% of India's college-age population, 25% of teaching
positions nationwide are vacant, and 57% of college professors lack either a
master's or PhD degree. As of 2007, there are 1522 degree-granting engineering
colleges in India with an annual student intake of 582,000, plus 1,244 polytechnics
with an annual intake of 265,000. However, these institutions face shortage of
faculty and concerns have been raised over the quality of education.
Women have much lower literacy rate than men. Far fewer girls are enrolled in the
schools, and many of them drop out. According to a 1998 report by U.S. Department
of Commerce, the chief barrier to female education in India are inadequate school
facilities (such as sanitary facilities), shortage of female teachers and gender
bias in curriculum (majority of the female characters being depicted as weak and
helpless). Conservative cultural attitudes prevents some girls from attending
school.
So for india as super power in 2020 it has to improve quality of [Link]
reach of education to whole coutry is must.
Socio ecnomic issues:
Poverty:
One-third of India's population (roughly equivalent to the entire population of the
United States) lives below the poverty line and India is home to one-third of the
world's poor [Link] the middle class has gained from recent positive
economic developments, India suffers from substantial [Link] distribution
in India is fairly uneven, with the top 10% of income groups earning 33% of the
income. Despite significant economic progress, 1/4 of the nation's population earns
less than the government-specified poverty threshold of $0.40/day.
So if we want to see india as super power we have to find out the ways to increase
percapita income.
Corruption:
Corruption is widespread in India. India is ranked 72 out of a 179 countries in
Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index, although its score has
improved consistently from 2.7 in 2002 to 3.5 in 2007. Corruption has taken the
role of a pervasive aspect of Indian politics and bureaucracy.
In India, corruption takes the form of bribes, evasion of tax and exchange
controls, embezzlement, etc. A 2005 study done by Transparency International (TI)
India found that more than 50% had firsthand experience of paying bribe or peddling
influence to get a job done in a public office. The chief economic consequences of
corruption are the loss to the exchequer, an unhealthy climate for investment and
an increase in the cost of government-subsidised services. The TI India study
estimates the monetary value of petty corruption in 11 basic services provided by
the government, like education, healthcare, judiciary, police, etc., to be around
Rs.21,068 [Link] corruption in India is a major concern.
Criminalization of Indian politics is a major setback as well as a serious problem.
In July 2008 The Washington Post reported that nearly a fourth of the 540 Indian
Parliament members faced criminal charges, "including human trafficking,
immigration rackets, embezzlement, rape and even murder".
Population:
India suffers from the problem of overpopulation. Though India ranks second in
population, it ranks 33 in terms of population density below countries such as The
Netherlands, South Korea and Japan. To cure this problem, Indira Gandhi, Prime
Minister of India, had implemented a forced sterilization programme in the early
1970s but failed.
Unemployment:
Agricultural and allied sectors accounted for about 52.1% of the total workforce in
2009-10. While agriculture has faced stagnation in growth, services have seen a
steady growth. Of the total workforce, 8% is in the organised sector, two-thirds of
which are in the public sector. The NSSO survey estimated that in 1999–2000, 106
million, nearly 10% of the population were unemployed and the overall unemployment
rate was 7.3%, with rural areas doing marginally better (7.2%) than urban areas
(7.7%). India's labour force is growing by 2.5% annually, but employment only at
2.3% a year.

Obama's visit to India-gain or loss.

Gain
* U.S. President Barack Obama endorsed India's long-held demand for a permanent
seat on the U.N. Security Council, a reflection of the Asian country's growing
global weight and its challenge to rival China.
* "In the years ahead, I look forward to a reformed United Nations Security Council
that includes India as a permanent member," Obama said in a speech to India's
parliament on his first official visit to the world's largest democracy.
* In his three-day trip -- the longest stay in any foreign country by Obama -- the
U.S. leader announced $10 billion in business deals, aiming at reassuring voters at
home that countries like India offer benefits for U.S. jobs rather than causing
unemployment through outsourcing.
* Obama has also announced the United States would relax export controls over
sensitive technology, another demand of India's.
* He criticised U.S. ally Pakistan over its failure to clamp down on militants.
India has long expressed scepticism at U.S. support for Pakistan, saying Islamabad
is hoodwinking Washington by taking aid while also backing militants in
Afghanistan.
* "We will continue to insist to Pakistan's leaders that terrorist safehavens
within their borders are unacceptable and that the terrorists behind the Mumbai
attacks be brought to justice," he said.
Loss
* Obama not directly criticized pakistan for spreading terrorism in neighbouring
countries, Which basically a loss for india.
* There was no announcement of India's role in Afghanistan.

We can not consider the below facts as loss to india .Below facts are actual gain
to USA from this visit.
* In the agenda will be lucrative defence ties. The United States has held more
military exercises with India in the past year than any other country, and U.S.
firms Boeing and Lockheed Martin Corp are bidding for a $11 billion deal for 126
fighter jet.
* Obama is walking a diplomatic tightrope in New Delhi, on the one hand trying to
boost diplomatic and business ties with India while on the other ensuring relations
with Pakistan and China, nations often at loggerheads with India, stay stable.
* U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco Sanchez said
the United States wanted greater market access to India's infrastructure and energy
sectors.
* The truth is that having suffered at the midterm polls, President Obama's India
visit aimed at repairing the damage from the biggest election reverse for the
Democrats in 72 years. The motive of the Obama administration is to befriend the 65
Indian billionaires and use Indian booming economy, to salvage the near sick
American economy.
* Indian Aeronautical Development Agency is ordering the purchase of 107 F-414
General Electric engines for the Teja fighters for the Indian Air Force at a cost
of 850 million dollars. Secret negotiations for the purchase of 126 F-18 Hornet
fighters with a price tag of 20 billion dollars was not disclosed. It will bring
huge benefit to the US economy when signed.
Intrusions in privacy is more important then security.
Or
Privacy vs security at airports.
Favor:
* Privacy advocates plan to call on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to
suspend use of "whole-body imaging," the airport security technology that critics
say performs "a virtual strip search" and produces "naked" pictures of passengers
* Even if the scanners prove to be safe, travelers feel their sense of privacy is
being violated, since the scanned body images are quite [Link] agencies
have been insisting that the images are discarded as soon as they are viewed.
* Passengers can opt out of the body scan, but then will be expected to submit to
an invasive palms-down search that includes breasts and genitals.
* Extra security checks based on one's nationality is also not justifiable.
Against
* Security is more important then the privacy
* In December 2001, Richard Reid, also known as the shoe bomber, was wrestled to
the ground by passengers and crew as he attempted to ignite an explosive device
hidden in his shoe while aboard an American Airlines flight from Paris to Miami.
* The most recent in-air threat happened December 25 when Nigerian-born Umar Farouk
Abdulmutallab, 23, attempted to detonate explosives sewn into his underwear while
aboard a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit. So how was this individual able to come
so close to [Link] was due to lack of security check issues.
* After the Christmas scare, the Obama administration created new rules specifying
that citizens of Afghanistan, Algeria, Cuba, Lebanon, Libya, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria,
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen, must receive a pat down
and extra security check of their carry-on baggage before boarding any plane headed
toward the United States. The new rules have been heavily criticized by rights
advocates and these countries.
Conclusion
* In the light of similar security threats conclusion is Security of people is much
more important then [Link] far as privacy is concern airports should not keep
any permanent pictures or record revealed during these checks.

proven track record of preserving the historical heritage.
* Even few days back the Rabindranath tagore's noble prize medal was stolen which
shows how much we care about our national treasures.
* Rather then claiming new artefacts we have to save existing treasures of india.
Conclusion

archelogical treasures also

Life may start getting happier after 50

Favor
* Number of studies says at age of 50 happiness begins to peak while stress, anger
and worry all start to fade.
* With age comes experience and wisdom tools that increase one's ability to accept
the world the way it is rather than whine over its imperfactions.

Against

[Link] personal health is at its peakand future posibilities are open.
Happiness is state of mind and individual doent need to be of a certain age to
acquire that state of mind.
Conclusion
* There is no denying it. At 50+ years old, we are not as young as we used to be.
That does not mean that we have to stop living life well. Fifty is a great time to
turn your attention to your total wellbeing. For many people turning 50 can be an
even higher hurdle than when they turned 30. They begin to think of themselves as
old and dull. It does not have to be so. This can be the best time of your life.
You can have a life full of health, vitality, and happiness after 50 and beyond.
Penalty shoot -outs are an unfair way of deciding football matches.
Favor
* A study says Team kicking first kick win match 60% of times.
* The team going second is usually more stressed.
* Penalty shoot are always more luck then skills.
* Psychological pressure of loosing the coin toss and going second is unfair.
* In an intense game where small percentage can swing a match ,leaving so much to
chance is unjustifiable.
Against
* Atheletes have been trained for these kind of stressed situations.
* Atheletes have been paid in millions to perform at the highest levet with their
utmost abilities.
* Sport is mix of luck and talent So taking those elements from the football will
make this game boring.
Conclusion
* In Penalty shootouts first team definitely has psychological advantage over
second team so this system can be replaced bymore balanced tie break system as in
tennis.
Social network Boon or Ban
or
Social networking privacy issues
Favor (Boon)
* Social networks are new meaning of staying in touch with whole world.
* The internet a tool that an increasing number of people are choosing to use with
great frequency. Too many of these people forget that the internet is a
unrestricted, unregulated, and uncontrollable grouping of millions of people, their
data, their opinions, and there interests.
* Public sharing of private lives has not led to a rethinking of anything. It's
just reminded people to use extreme caution when publicly sharing their private
lives. If you wouldn't do something in front of everyone you know, don't do it on
the internet.
* Laws should --never-- be extended to allow privacy protection for things that
people say and do in the public domain. Perhaps the greatest part of the internet
is the lack of control, the utter and complete freedom of speech. What is needed is
a basic warning from parents or friends to those who are new to the internet,
warning of the possible pitfalls that can come with such freedom.
* Humans are social animals by our nature and social networks are just one other
outlet for humans to interact. We should not look at social networks are threats
but as opportunities for us to interact with people globally. I myself am an active
user of social networks and have made many friends and business contacts online
that I would otherwise not have had the same level of opportunity or interaction.
Against (Ban)
* Social-networking sites allow seemingly trivial gossip to be distributed to a
worldwide audience, sometimes making people the butt of rumors shared by millions
of users across the Internet.
* Public sharing of private lives has led to a rethinking of our current
conceptions of privacy.
* Existing law should be extended to allow some privacy protection for things that
people say and do in what would have previously been considered the public domain.
* A guy who posted a video on Youtube weightlifting, skiing, and performing karate
exhibitions. He was fired from his job for showing to much Bravado.
* like other human social interactions which are transient, e.g. talking to friends
over lunch, the Internet keeps a permanent record of what we say to each other. If
you are having an online conversation with your friend(s) then you should be aware
that conversation can be seen by countless others and that a record of that
conversation will be kept somewhere on the Internet. Indeed, now with some social
networks introducing geolocation services a record of where we go and how long we
spend there will also be maintained.
* There was one incident where robbers using user's geolocation on facebook to find
out when target is at home or not.
* People need to be aware of the environment within which they are communicating to
others. If you are discussing things in a public forum then all that information is
available to everyone else in that forum. Therefore hey should take a common sense
approach to what they should and should not discuss. In the real world we only talk
about sensitive issues when we are in private and with people we trust. I think
though that when people are online they can fall into a false sense of security
because there are physically in a secure place using their computer either in their
office or their home which results in them divulging information they should not.
Conclusion
* Social network is indeed boon for human race as it is bringing people closer and
letting them communicate with each other without any fear and [Link] still one
nee to cautious of what level of personal information they are revealing on the
social networks.
The government should stop funding the IITs and the IIMs and, instead, divert the
funds to primary education.

Favour
* India is not a developed country here literacy ratio is very less so government
should concentrate on make more people literate rather then concentrating on small
group of population
* Students from IIT IIM are moving out of India serving other nation's organization
that is really awful
* India is democratic country. Democracy can only be successful in only one
situation that everyone should literate that could be achieved by concentrating on
primary education
* Spending huge amount of money on IIT & IIM is dividing the nation in 2 different
communities one community is not even having primary education where other
community is having higher education
* The most of the people going for the IIT IIM are self capable so government
should make all this institutes self financed and stop funding.
Against
* Still India in development mode so need of these institutes to promote our young
talent to international platform.
* its true student from IIT IIM are moving out but they are sending back money to
the country eventually that money is getting utilized in India itself.
* The phase of development through which India is passing by needs more
reorganization of Indian talent pool, which surely needs the more better higher
education for young Indians.
* For democracy we need policy makers so we needs few people who are Indians who
can create better systems for us IIT's IIM's producing such kinds of brains.
* Students from other countries are coming to India so eventually revenue coming
back to government pocket.
Conclusion
* We cant compare the primary education, which is vary vast area with IIT IIM which
is concentrated to small area.
* Funding to IIT IIM can be self financed but there should be proper mechanism and
student should get scholarships in case of fees hike
Profit is the only business of business.

Favour
* Definitely i feel Businessman getting richer now a days and they are not putting
effort for the social causes.
* The industries only propagating the all kinds of pollution in society.
* The Social work done by the businessmen is minute as compared to the investment
it is taking from the society.
* The fundamental behind running business is Capitalization .Capitalization is
based on only profit.
* Homan life is improving day by day due to business because the kind of
innovations happening due to business is not possible without business. The kind of
R&D facilities business putting for new innovations is making life better and
safer.
* Definition of business: Businesses are predominant in capitalist economies, most
being privately owned and formed to earn profit to increase the wealth of owners.
Against
* Running a business a no more only profit because no organizational structure now
a days allow buniess money flow to a particular person the profit go to each and
every person in organization as per their role.
* Each and every well build organization is giving their profits to charity.
* The Core capitalization is now no more there because organizations now managed by
more than one person.
* Business providing the jobs and revenues to society for whatever cost society
give to business.
* In economics, a business (also called firm or enterprise) is a legally recognized
organizational entity designed to provide goods and/or services to consumers or
corporate entities such as governments, charities or other businesses.
Conclusion
* Business is definitely a profit making enterprise but the benifits society
getting out of it is also considerable.
* Due to business only the human life is getting better and safer.
Democracy has hampered India’s progress.

Favour
* Democracy definitely hampered the progress because the people who have chosen by
the Indian people are not educated enough and capable enough to run the government
properly.
* Democracy putting forward lot of restrictions on business to run it as profitable
enterprise rather then it is becoming more like running for social causes.
* In some sense yes. You know, because of the way the system is built, lot of
regulations and formalities come into picture. The bureaucracy leads to delays.
* Yes, as all can see from the TV news and read the papers, everything is being
molded according to the wishes of the so called protectors of the democracy.
* Why separate scales are being used for same kind of work/service.
Against
* Democracy is the only reason of India's progress. there is no greater system for
a country than a vibrant democracy . there may be problem, but then what system
does not have the problem. there will always be problem in any system, but we have
to overcome that and keep trying to do so. no system can ever be foolproof because
no two men always can think alike.
* just look to Pakistan for a reference. or if you have China in mind, there bubble
will burst one day like USSR did.
* At the time of Independence, the average income of Pakistanis was higher than
that of Indians. Today after almost 60 years of democracy in India (bloody and
violent democracy at time I will admit) and 60 years of dictatorships, military
rule and religious control in Pakistan, the average income of Indians is about 300%
higher than Pakistan and India is now in the process of becoming a genuine world
"superpower."
Conclusion
* There might be some problem with the democracy but no system is fullproof we can
rectify them.
Principles of Mahatma Gandhi are they valid today?
Background
Satya
The pivotal and defining element of Gandhism is satya.a Sanskrit word usually
translated into English as truth. The principle of Satya as espoused by Gandhi
needed that Truth must pervade all considerations of politics, ego, society and
convention.

Brahmacharya

Brahmacharya, or Celibacy was important to Gandhi for not only purifying himself of
any lust and sexual urges, but also to purify his love for his wife as genuine and
not an outlet for any turmoil or aggression within his mind.

Ahimsa

Ahimsa, or non-violence, was another key tenet of Gandhi's beliefs. He held that
total non-violence would rid a person of anger, obsession and destructive impulses.

Khadi

Gandhi also adopted the clothing style of most Indians in the early 20th century.
His adoption of khadi, or homespun cloth, was intended to help eradicate the evils
of poverty, social and economic discrimination.

Fasting

To Gandhi, fasting was an important method of exerting mental control over base
desires.
Religion

Universalism denotes the ideology that all religions are true and therefore worthy
of toleration and respect.
Favor
* Yes indeed his principles are valid and eternal.
* Satya still holds enough respect in human [Link] only respect who stay
with [Link] few people sack their integrity for midget [Link] mental
satisfaction and guilt free life one need to stay with truth.
* Nonviolence is base of civilzed human [Link] humans invlolve in violence then
what is the diffrence between humans and animals.
* Khadi is for poors and good for [Link] cleans body.
* Religions equality is must for humans to survive in upcoming future.
* Prinicples of gandhi ji are [Link] they are usefull in past and will be
valid in future.
Against
* Satya or truth is not valid in today's capitalist world.A business man cant speak
all the [Link] our advertisement hide the reality and sell the fakeness.
* Ahimsa or non violence is good till a [Link] if you only bear the pain others
giving you then its not justified.
* These principles are not valid in present as morden times human made diffrent
standards in their socities from the [Link] past religions had very powerful
influence over society but now these things are eloping.
Conclusion
* Principles of ghandhi ji are universal. Its just present human society more
focusing on the showoff and [Link] these priniples holds good good as well as
bad times for humanity.
Growth and integrity are poles apart.
Favor
* Growth is the edge a person or organization wants to achieve over its rivals.
Where integrity is honesty to work. Both have nothing to do with each other.
* Growth needs selfishness, greediness of making profit which is certainly urge a
person or organization to move away from his integrity.
* Public sharing of private lives has not led to a rethinking of anything. It's
just reminded people to use extreme caution when publicly sharing their private
lives. If you wouldn't do something in front of everyone you know, don't do it on
the internet.
* Integrity needs the overall honesty which is not possible while running a profit
making business.
* If you see all the businessman who achieved success have been accused of asking
their integrity.
Against
* Growth is achievement of overall goals of a person or organization which include
happiness of people around. Which cannot be achieved without the honesty or
integrity to once value?
* Public sharing of private lives has led to a rethinking of our current
conceptions of privacy.
* One can achieve imaginary growth by sacking the integrity but it will ruin
organizational or personal actual growth and respect.
* here are many live examples who achieved social and economic growth by sticking
with integrity like Manmohan Singh.
Conclusion
* Growth and integrity both are important for success of organization as well as a
person. But achieving growth by sacking integrity meaningless as it won’t give you
mental satisfaction or respect from society.
Satyagarh by Baba Ramdev
BackGround
* Baba Ramdev, India's most well-known yoga guru, has now taken center stage as a
crusader against corruption and black money hoarded abroad. He began a “satyagraha”
on June 4, 2011 to goad the government into checking corruption and recover crores
of black money buried in foreign bank accounts.
* Thousands of Baba Ramdev's supporters were gathered at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan on
Saturday, June 4 2011 and many more were expected to join him through the day.
* Ramdev had earlier said that he expects hundreds of thousands of people to join
him when he goes on a hunger strike. His supporters clearly did not let him down.
* Former VHP leader Sadhvi Ritambara also shared the stage with him. Before
launching the fast, Baba Ramdev held a yoga and bhajan session during which he told
the gathering that his protest was intended to "save the country from corruption
and ensure that the poor get a good life."
* Baba Ramdev's anti-corruption campaign has the support of the Rashtriya
Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS). With no 'Bharat Mata' poster on stage and frequent musings
about his protest's non-political character, Baba Ramdev is trying hard to dispel
notions that his agitation is a Sangh Parivar-sponsored one. However, the presence
of people like Sadhvi Ritambara and a host of sadhus raised eye-brows at the
Ramlila protest site though the dais also saw the participation of some clerics
from Muslim, Jain and Sikh communities.
* During his speeches throughout the day, Ramdev at regular intervals reminded his
followers and media that his protest has no political colour and his only intention
was to fight against corruption. The yoga icon was evicted from Delhi after
midnight police action and scenes of violence at the site of his hunger strike. The
Baba spent last night in the protection of the Delhi Police and was flown out from
the Palam airport. He broke down as he described how he wept and told "cops to stop
misbehaving with women supporters", but to no avail, he said. Baba Ramdev, who
initially escaped the police dressed as a woman, said he was not dressed in a white
salwar-kurta because he wanted to and described how he spent hours hidden among
women.
What Baba Ramdev wants?
* Bring back black money stashed in banks abroad.
* Death penalty for those guilty of corruption.
* Currency notes of high denomination withdrawn.
* Making local languages compulsory in higher education.
Favor
* He is a yoga guru and helped lot of diseased patients.
* He is raising his head against corruption. What's wrong in it as we all know
situation in India.
* He wanted to bring back black money which is very much possible for Indian
government.
* He is having support of millions of Indians.
* Even he is wrong beating women in night is not a good act.
Against (Ban)
* All this is just a political drama.
* Different political parties are supporting baba from behind and taking advantage
of him. It's all political.
* His demands are not justify .You can't stop printing 500 and 1000 notes. Death
punishment is inhuman. And engineering in local languages will create more
difficulties for students and India will further broke.
* The Baba who is against globalization, believes in a welfare state, who thinks
that Sex education should be banned in Schools and Homosexuality is a disease.
Conclusion
* It may be political stunt or it could be voice of a true Indian. What management
should focus on fighting with corruption. Beating of common people was another act
where local management failed. All babas and socialist follow the way of law. And
they should not take support from the political parties.
Middle East Protests
BackGround
* The Arab Spring is a revolutionary wave of demonstrations and protests occurring
in the Arab world that began on Saturday, 18 December 2010.
* To date, there have been revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt a civil war in Libya
resulting in the fall of its government civil uprisings in Bahrain, Syria, and
Yemen, the latter resulting in the resignation of the Yemeni prime minister; major
protests in Algeria, Iraq, Jordan, Morocco, and Oman and minor protests in Kuwait,
Lebanon, Mauritania, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and Western Sahara. Clashes at the
borders of Israel in May 2011 have also been inspired by the regional Arab Spring.
* The protests have shared techniques of civil resistance in sustained campaigns
involving strikes, demonstrations, marches and rallies. Many demonstrations have
met violent responses from authorities. Numerous factors have led to the protests,
including issues such as dictatorship or absolute monarchy, human rights
violations, government corruption. Economic decline, unemployment, extreme poverty,
and a number of demographic structural factors, such as a large percentage of
educated but dissatisfied youth within the population. Concentration of wealth in
the hands of autocrats in power for decades, insufficient transparency of its
redistribution, corruption, and especially the refusal of the youth to accept the
status quo. Increasing food prices and global famine rates have also been a
significant factor, as they involve threats to food security worldwide and prices
that approach levels of the 2007–2008 world food price crises.
Foreign direct investment (FDI) in retail sector.
BackGround
The recent cabinet decision on FDI in retail has triggered protests by opposition
and key allies of the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA), who are demanding a
roll back of the policy. The hour-long meeting held in Parliament House failed to
resolve the logjam in the two Houses as opposition parties, led by BJP and the
Left, stuck to their stand and demanded rollback of the Cabinet decision to allow
51 per cent FDI in multi-brand retail. Though at present only 53 cities with
population not less than 10 lakh in the country have been identified for FDI As the
fourth-largest economy in the world in PPP terms, India is a preferred destination
for FDI. During 2000–10, the country attracted $178 billion as FDI.
Favor
* This will bring modern technology to the country.
* Improve rural [Link] would help build infrastructure and create a
competitive market.
* Reduce wastage of agricultural produce.
* Enable our farmers to get better prices for their crops.
* consumers will get commodities of daily use at reduced prices.
* Biggest beneficiary of this would be small farmers, who would be able to improve
productivity and realize higher remuneration by selling directly to large organized
players and shorten the chain from farm to consumers.
* Government too stands to gain by this move through more transparent and
accountable monitoring of goods and supply chain management systems. It can expect
to receive an additional US$ 25-30 billion by way of taxes
* Opening of retail can be seen as a solution for food inflation, which has been
confounding policy-makers. FDI in retail would help in building much needed back
end infrastructure. Additionally, he said, investments in cold storage chain
infrastructure would reduce loss of agricultural produce and provide more options
to farmers.
Against
* Our interest rates today are as high as 14 per cent to 16 per cent how do we
compete with the economies which have a 4 per cent interest rate. Our
infrastructure our trade facilitations our labor laws, all these factors
collectively don't make India low cost. So do you want India to become a center
where we allow foreign companies to come in and set up these large chains which
eventually instead of selling domestic products out sourcing internationally the
cheapest sources and selling those products. Please remember domestic retail
normally sources domestically, international retail sources internationally because
they source from the cheapest sources.
* Even if big retail companies help the farmers in resurrecting their economy, what
plan does the government has for millions of middlemen who are part of the business
process chain that ensures manufactured products reach end users.
* We engage millions of uneducated and semi-educated people at various stages of
retail business spread across towns and cities but we are afraid that Tesco and
Wal-Mart will only engage smart and educated workforce in small strength,
comparatively.
Conclusion
* Government is taking this decision in good [Link] persons and lobbies
controlling the rates of food commodities in [Link] bringing more competition in
market will bring better prices for buyers as well as sellers of commodities.
Parties protesting against FDIs in retail have choice to not allow FDIs in the
states they are [Link] should make a regulatory body for the commodity
trade as we have for cellular services.
Lokpal Bill
BackGround
* The Jan Lokpal Bill also referred to as the citizens' ombudsman bill.
* The Jan Lokpal Bill aims to effectively deter corruption, redress grievances of
citizens, and protect whistle-blowers. If made into law, the bill would create an
independent ombudsman body called the Lokpal (Sanskrit: protector of the people). It
would be empowered to register and investigate complaints of corruption against
politicians and bureaucrats without prior government approval.
* In April 2011, civil activist Anna Hazare started a Satyagraha movement by
commencing an indefinite fast in New Delhi to demand the passing of the bill. The
movement attracted attention in the media, and hundreds of thousands of supporters,
in part due to the organizational skills of Arvind [Link] Hazare's four
day hunger strike, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh stated that the bill would
be re-introduced in the 2011 monsoon session of the Parliament.
Features of proposed bill
* To establish a central government anti-corruption institution called Lokpal,
supported by Lokayukta at the state level. As in the case of the Supreme Court and
Cabinet Secretariat, the Lokpal will be supervised by the Cabinet Secretary and the
Election Commission . As a result , it will be completely independent of the
government and free from ministerial influence in its investigations.
* Members will be appointed by judges, Indian Administrative Service officers with
a clean record, private citizens and constitutional authorities through a
transparent and participator process.
* A selection committee will invite short-listed candidates for interviews,
videorecordings of which will thereafter be made public.
* Every month on its website, the Lokayukta will publish a list of cases dealt with
, brief details of each, their outcome and any action taken or proposed. It will
also publish lists of all cases received by the Lokayukta during the previous
month, cases dealt with and those which are pending.
* Investigations of each case must be completed in one year. Any resulting trials
should be concluded in the following year, giving a total maximum process time of
two years.
* Losses to the government by a corrupt individual will be recovered at the time of
conviction.
* Government office work required by a citizen that is not completed within a
prescribed time period will result in Lokpal imposing financial penalties on those
responsible, which will then be given as compensation to the complainant.
* Complaints against any officer of Lokpal will be investigated and completed
within month and, if found to be substantive, will result in the officer being
dismissed within two months.
* The existing anti-corruption agencies [CVC], departmental vigilance and the anti-
corruption branch of the [CBI] will be merged into Lokpal which will have complete
power authority to independently investigate and prosecute any officer, judge or
politician.
* Whistleblowers who alert the agency to potential corruption cases will also be
provided with protection by it.
Content on internet should be censored!
Or
Government's action on social networking sites is justified
BackGround
Internet censorship is the control or suppression of the publishing of, or access
to information on the Internet. It may be carried out by governments or by private
organizations either at the behest of government or on their own initiative.
Individuals and organizations may engage in self-censorship on their own or due to
intimidation and fear.
Internet censorship in India is selectively practiced by both federal and state
governments. While there is no sustained government policy or strategy to block
access to Internet content on a large scale, measures for removing content that is
obscene or otherwise objectionable, or that endangers public order or national
security have become more common in recent years.
Favor
* The words and images users post on the Internet may be available for years, and
your profile may be viewed by future employers and school admissions officials, as
well as identity thieves, spammers, and [Link] information can be used for
the different purpose without any acknowledgement to user.
* Many individuals and groups are using the social networking sites to provoke the
users against the [Link] all politically [Link] are using the
tactics which are not acceptable in real world.
* Apart from political motives many terrorist and racist organizations are using
the social media for hurting the emotions of people and spewing hate against the
castes, religions and races.
* Internet is in a completely in chaos due to less [Link] is need to
censor the content and usage or the [Link] are abusing each other
anonymously there is no one out on internet who can take care on these [Link]
need internet police.
* Internet censorship is not at all about the hindering the freedom it is about the
mapping the virtual world with the real world ethics.
Against
* Internet is a open and free [Link] can be accessed by anyone by any [Link]
is the power of [Link] government start censoring voices of the people then
internet will loose its charm.
* I agree that on internet and on social media websites lot of content available
which could be against few groups or [Link] content available is a view of
another [Link] can not stop people of keeping a different [Link] cant
hinder the freedom.
* The content available on different forums or social networking sites are always
publish with a report [Link] a person or group find it offensive they can
report [Link] the site could take action on the [Link] is to make generic
standards for all sites to filter the content based on the [Link] mechanism is
already there so what is need to censor further.
* Why government need to control the [Link] parties can be use the
content for their personal profit. Parties would censor only content what is
against them not against the opposition. So if required to regulate there must be a
third party censorship firm or agency or regulatory [Link] can take action
without partiality.
Conclusion
* There is no need to censor the [Link] is required is to setup the a
mechanism or regulatory body which can take care of websites to manage their
content.
* Internet is free medium and no one should have right to censor things on it.
