Science Worksheet for MYP2 Name: Aymen Faizan

Unit 2 How does our planet work? Section: 7-B

Criterion A: Knowing and Understanding ______/8

Ecospheres of the Earth

Image taken from ‘Sciences for the IB MYP 2: by Concept’

The diagram above shows the different ecospheres of the earth namely Geosphere,
Biosphere, Hydrosphere and Atmosphere.

Do some research on these ecosystems and try to develop your understanding based on
new information gathered.

1. List down the processes which occur in each ecosphere.

a. Geosphere: The processes which occur in the geosphere are metamorphism,

melting and solidification, weathering, erosion, deposition and burial.

b. Biosphere: Biosphere is the cycle of living things. Bio is short for biology which is
the study of living things.

c. Hydrosphere: The major processes involved are precipitation, evaporation,

interception, transpiration, infiltration, percolation, retention, detention, overland
flow, through flow and runoff.

d. Atmosphere: Some atmospheric processes are radiation, convection, and aerosol

movement.

2. Write down the relationship between the atmosphere and biosphere. You can use
the internet to gather information.

Answer: The atmosphere and biosphere are in constant interaction with each other. All
living things rely on gases in the atmosphere for life. Without the atmosphere we all
wouldn’t be here.

3. List down the components of Biosphere and write a brief note on any one of them.

Answer: Biosphere has three basic components. These are:

1) Abiotic (physical and inorganic) components
2) Biotic (organic) components
3) Energy components

Energy Components: An energy system essentially consists of four components. They are
generation, transmission/transport, distribution and consumption/utilization
