discipleship

A great journey
Theoretical Framework

Hello dear teachers, it is a privilege to participate together in the formation.

Christian education for our boys and girls. That is why we provide you with the material that
you have in your hands, useful for the discipleship of boys and girls who are starting their
life in Christ. In order for you to better understand the material, we have considered explaining to you the
scientific theories we have based ourselves on. So that we all understand,
we will explain this part in a simple way. We have three scientific bases that
All Christian educational material must consider:

1. Pedagogical Base: To understand the format (sequence of lessons,

presentation of each lesson), the teaching aids and the structure (objectives,
activities, assessment) of each lesson.
2. Psychological basis: To understand the personality of childhood at the age when
we will teach (ages 9 to 12).

3. Theological basis: To understand the meaning of discipleship for childhood and the
biblical content of the lessons.

We believe it is necessary for you to know these fundamentals so that you can understand the
sense of all the material and have the freedom to propose some activities
aligned with what is sought with each and every lesson.

1. PEDAGOGICAL BASE:
Learning is what this material seeks, understanding that learning is not just
memorizing concepts, but a comprehensive process of developing skills, abilities and
knowledge. That’s why we want learning to be ACTIVE and INTERACTIVE,
that means that children will not only listen to the teacher, but they
they will learn by doing and interacting with each other. The idea is that you, teacher, allow
that the children propose some knowledge they have about the topic, that
discover the foundations of faith for themselves and gain the ability to
relate, share, and apply what you have learned. You must become a facilitator.
To develop this learning, we have taken the 'Kolb Cycle' as a theoretical basis.
what is in a learning model organized in the following steps:
- Concrete experience: It consists of recalling the knowledge from the session.
previously, ask about the knowledge that the child has regarding the subject of the
class and live an experience that involves sensations, perceptions, emotions and
feelings.
- Observation y reflection: It consists of carrying out reflection, critical analysis, comparison,
establish similarities and differences and many other mental exercises to achieve
that the contents are understood by the children.
- Conceptualization y Abstraction: It consists of organizing the learned ideas and
synthesize the information. It is the conclusion of what has been learned expressed in
ideas or concepts.
- Practical application: It is to put into practice what has been learned in the stages.
previous. Test the knowledge learned in concrete and new situations and
to generalize little by little.
All lessons are organized following this learning model. Do not you
You may be confused, it's not that the structure of the lessons has the title: Experience.
concrete, observation and reflection, etc.; rather the entire lesson follows this structure, with
activities specific to the topic.
2. PSYCHOLOGICAL BASE:
To understand the psychology of childhood with which we will work, we present here the
Characteristics of physical, mental, social, and spiritual development in children. Also
we have defined the age range: 9 to 12 years, because children have characteristics
similar psychological factors in this age range. During the development of the classes
we must consider the following:
Physical Development
Grows at a slower pace
Grows in an irregular shape
Develop skill in the use of small muscles
Mental Development
He/She likes to collect things.
They have the ability to relate time, space, hours, and events.
He likes history and geography.

He/She is interested in problem solving.
Maintains attention for 30 to 40 minutes
It is sharp and critical
He/She likes true stories
Social development

He enjoys expanding his social circle and being popular in his group.
Responsibility in their group starts to make sense.
He/she cares about the opinion of his/her friends.

One understands more with those of the same sex.

Spiritual Development
He is aware of what sin is and desires to be far from it.
Establishes patterns of behavior for himself and for the people around him
He feels frustrated for not meeting his own demands and feels disappointed.
for the non-compliance of other people
He has a greater awareness of what it means to accept Christ.
He is willing to be part of the Church and take on some responsibilities within it.

3. THEOLOGICAL BASIS:
The commandment of our Lord Jesus Christ was 'to make disciples' (Matthew 28:19), not
it was only that people convert or accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior; but rather
learn to live like Jesus. Therefore, we must guide the new believer to a security
of their salvation and identity in Christ, in this case, to childhood.

We consider that every discipleship must have three objectives:

Affirm the new believer in the assurance of their salvation, forgiveness, and freedom in Christ
Jesus, through the knowledge of the fundamentals of faith.
To shape in the new convert the character of Christ, evidenced in a righteous life,
with values and exemplary.
Develop the ability for the disciple to become a discipler.

To this we add that in a discipleship for children we must consider the following:
Communicate the foundations of faith in a language understandable to children, for their
correct application in daily life. That is why we have developed the material of the
in the following way:

The foundations of faith will be presented following the accounts of the life of Jesus.
As the second objective of discipleship states, every new convert must achieve
to form the character of Christ in their person, in the case of children, will be very difficult
let them do it according to the common patterns of adult discipleship, that's why
we believe it will be easier for you if you follow the story of Jesus.

We will follow the life of Jesus according to the Gospel of Matthew, because this
the gospel was prepared as a Discipleship Manual for the church in Syria, in the
century A.D. The author of the gospel understood that the best way to disciple the
people were telling them the story of Jesus in such a way that the readers longed for
live as Jesus lived. To reinforce some stories, we will take references from
Gospel of Luke.
We will learn that the goal of our life is to be like Jesus, that's why what this

understanding that our disciples will be children who do not yet understand expressions of
traditional biblical language.

this way it can be more understandable for them and if possible relate the experiences
that the children shared with the one who lived with Jesus.

For example: everyone was happy with the arrival of a new member in the family,
they made him little clothes, they got suitable things for him.

3. EXPLANATION:
God and his angels celebrated and rejoiced at the birth of Jesus, thus
God also rejoices for each of the boys and girls who decide to start a
new life, far from bad things.
Our new family and friends are also happy: angels and shepherds were very
happy with the arrival of Jesus and they celebrated by singing and giving thanks to God for his

5th stop: My Church is my family

What will we do today?: Understand the spiritual practices and liturgical acts that
build my church and put them into practice
Location on the map: "Presentation of Jesus in the temple" (Luke 2:21-37)
Content: Our church performs liturgical acts that help us come together more as
family and also with God. No

1. INTRODUCTION – Spiritual practices:
Tell the kids: Do you remember that last class we saw that God always us
care, and that's why we can always trust him?, at this moment we are going to
to think if there is something that worries us, at home, or at school or perhaps they have
some need, for example: they need peace, comfort, or their parents need a
work...
give a welcome

Give time for each child to think of something, then hand out papers and tell them.
that they write their request or concern on a paper, tell them that their prayers will not be
read by nobody.
When they are finished, invite them to gather in a circle and place in the center of to pray
everyone a little box, in which they will deposit their prayers.

Explain, God knows everything we have written on these papers, now we are going to ?
to ask Him to give us the best answer that He can, sometimes that does not mean that God
He does what we want, but we trust that God always does what is best.
introduce oneself
Ask the children to extend their two hands towards the box and guide them in a prayer.

At the end, tell them, now they can trust that God has heard what you have said.
they asked.
Explain, praying is part of the spiritual acts we do to know about God and
to meet with God. Today we are going to learn about something called 'liturgical acts'
(worship activities) and spiritual acts; for this we are going to read the Bible.

2. BIBLE STUDY - Groups:

Ask the children to sit in a circle and assign the following Bible passages to 3
children.
Luke 2:21, 22, and 24 And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and this manLuke

a. Reading of Luke 2:21 and 22

Who was taken to Jerusalem? (Jesus)
Who took him? (his parents)
Why did they bring him? (to present him to the Lord)

b. Reading of Luke 2: 25, 27, and 28

What was the name of the man who lived in Jerusalem? (Simeon)
Simeon went to the temple, who did he meet there? (With Jesus and his parents)
What did Simeon do with the child? (he lifted him up and blessed him)
1st Station: Bethlehem
Recognize that we are children of God, through the childhood of Jesus.

What Simeon did, we also do in our church and it is called presentation.

(so that the children can understand it better, you could bring a puppet and simulate a
presentation). We present the children to give thanks to God for them and to ask Him
protection for them and to give them blessing, blessing means saying good things about them.

c. Reading of Luke 2: 36, 37

What was Ana doing in the church? (She prayed day and night)
Do you know why we pray? (to talk to God, so that God listens to us)

3. EXPLANATION:
Prayer is a spiritual practice that helps us talk to God and tell Him what
What we think, what we need, what we feel, it is like talking to a friend.
When we are sad, praying can help us feel better.
Just as there is the act of presentation and the practice of prayer, there are many others.
Let's see if you know some and know the meaning. Hand in the worksheet with the
drawings of liturgical acts and spiritual practices. Explain what each one means
them. And then let the children write in front of each drawing and in their own
words the meaning of each one.
Note: If your church does not practice any of them, then explain to the children why not.

Question, why are liturgical acts and spiritual practices performed in the
church? (to unite more as a church and also with God)

4.APPLICATION:
The children are going to do some spiritual practices this week:
They will pray for their parents, asking God to take care of them
They will look up Psalm 23: 1 - 6 in their Bible and think about what it means.
They will pray for their brothers, asking God to help them with their studies.
They will remember a song they have heard in church and will sing it to God.
Next week they will tell how it went with these activities.
6th stop: God is interested in my whole life
What will we do today?: Recognize that as children of God we grow in all
areas of our life.

Jesus' parents went up to Jerusalem every year for the Passover festival.

Everyone who heard him was amazed at his intelligence and his answers. When he...
His parents saw it, were amazed, and said to him: Son: Why have you behaved this way?
with us? Her mother said to her: Look, your father and I have been looking for you
distressed!

Why were they looking for me? Did they not know that I must be in my Father's house? But
they did not understand what he was saying to them. So Jesus went down with his parents to Nazareth and
lived obedient to them.

And Jesus continued to grow in wisdom and stature, and increasingly more.
I was enjoying the favor of God and of all the people.

Questions:
Why did Jesus' parents go up to Jerusalem every year? (for the festival of
Easter
Where did Joseph and Mary find Jesus? (in the temple)
- What was Jesus doing in the temple? (listening to the teachers and
asking them questions)
What amazed people when they listened to Jesus? (of his intelligence)
How old was Jesus? (12 years old)
3. REFLECTIVE ACTIVITY - Comparison:

Ask the children: Do you remember last week's story? (Jesus was presented
in the temple), yes, the parents took him to the temple to present him to God, at that moment
Jesus was a baby.

Give the children the worksheet where they can see baby Jesus.
presented and when he was in the temple at 12 years old.

Explain to the children:

Observe the two images
What differences do you find between baby Jesus and Jesus as a 12-year-old adolescent?
Write down the differences that the children say on the board using the left side of
the board for the characteristics of baby Jesus and the right for the characteristics
of 12-year-old Jesus, for example:
Jesus at 12 years old
Jesus Baby I could go to the bathroom alone.

I used diapers He spoke and was intelligent

I didn't know how to speak I walked alone and was independent
They had to load it. I wanted to learn about God
I knew nothing about God.

Just as Joseph and Mary cared for Jesus, God cares for us, to Him
he is interested in whether we grow or not, whether we are healthy or if we study.

Now explain, in the second part of the worksheet, they must draw what is requested.
in the circle.
How can we take care of our body's growth?
How can we grow in our intelligence?
How can we improve our relationships with others?
How can we improve our relationship with God?

Help children think of ideas to complete their circle.

4. CONCLUSION:
What happens if we neglect any of these parts of our life? (we would die, no
we wouldn't know how to live or relate, we wouldn't have friends, we wouldn't have God)

God always wants our whole life to be well and for us to take care of ourselves, but

Before starting the class, prepare a paper or write on the board the following

give welcome
Rebellion Traps
Fights Bad words
Insults Lack of respect

Give a blank sheet to each child and tell them to draw a picture of themselves.

Explain to the children that when you mention each of the words out loud
the list, the children think about whether they have ever committed that "sin". If they have done so,
they must tear a piece of the drawing of themselves that they made on the paper; until
finish the list.

To finish, give the children another blank sheet, the same size as the
previously, also a little rubber or an adhesive that everyone can use.

Explain to the children that now, like a puzzle, they must reassemble it.
drawing on the new sheet, joining the broken pieces.

Question: How do the things on the list harm us? Why?

What should we remove from our lives? What does it mean that we have broken in
pieces of our drawing to stick them back together? (Briefly talk about the relationship)
with baptism as a decision where we affirm our commitment to let go
leave the bad things behind and continue with a new life.

2. BIBLE STUDY - Narration:

What is baptism? It is a necessary act in our GREAT JOURNEY as children of
God. Baptism is a way of telling people that we are starting a new.
life, in which we must leave behind all the things that hurt us and made us
harm to other people, such as: lying, selfishness, pride, etc.
The new life we live must be seen by others. People must
to know that we have decided to be 'Children of God' and now want to live a new life,
obeying God. Just as Jesus did.
2nd Station: Galilee
Apply the teachings of Jesus to live our freedom well.

The moment had come for Jesus to be baptized, to show everyone that he
he also took on the challenge of the GREAT JOURNEY as the Son of God. He went to seek out
his cousin Juan, who was the one baptizing at that time, and although Juan at first
he refused, then he understood that it had to be that way. Immediately after Jesus
he was baptized, God, his Father, revealed himself through a voice and confirmed once again
his love as Father, saying: 'This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased'
complacency.

Read the text aloud with all the children and immediately ask them to help you.
to mentally reconstruct the scene. With questions such as: How do you imagine the river?
Where was Jesus baptized? Do you think Jesus got nervous? How must they have been?
What was people's reaction when they saw God descend like a dove? And
similar questions to these.

3. EXPLANATION:

Why should we get baptized? Because it is a calling that God, our Father, gives us.
Thus we recognize that we are his children and that he is our Father. Moreover, Jesus
he did it and we have decided to live life like Jesus, so that, just as he did, we may also
to tell everyone what life we have decided to live from now on.

4. CONCLUSION - Synthesis
Jesus demonstrated, by baptizing himself in front of everyone, that he was the Son of God, and also God.
he confirmed that Jesus was his Son. Jesus decided to show everyone his new life, so that
many people can see in him an example and be like Jesus.

God calls us all to take this step, as Jesus did. This is living life.
Jesus, following in his footsteps and being examples as he was. Only then can God also...
He will confirm before all people that we are his 'beloved children'.

5. APPLICATION - commitment:
For this activity, use the worksheet. The heart must be full of
rectángulos que contengan acciones buenas y malas, por ejemplo: amar, odiar, mentir,
decir la verdad, obedecer, robar, decir chismes, respetar, tener miedo, ser valiente, ser
wise, live in peace, kill, etc.)

The children must cut out the rectangles that contain actions we should
to do in our new life, as children of God.

The cut-out rectangles must be glued onto the puzzle sheet that
they made, on top of their drawings.

Finally, ask them: If you have agreed to live a new life, would you be able to
to baptize you when the time comes?

Pray for the children at the end of the class.

Let’s see what the Bible says about people who suffer like them.

2. BIBLE STUDY - Reflection groups:

Form 4 groups and assign each one of the following biblical passages:

they are the kingdom of heaven.

When the groups are formed and each one has their ticket, tell them what they should do.

3.EXPLANATION:
There are many people in the world who suffer, but for all of them Jesus has a
answer. Jesus can comfort or send people to comfort us, Jesus can
help us find solutions to our problems, and sometimes it can be through
institutions such as the police, church, lawyers.

1. INTRODUCTION – Dramatization:
According to the number of children attending the class, organize them into groups of 6 or 8. If
There are 8 children, you must hand out 4 cards (3 cards if there are 6 children) that indicate actions.
as babies, so that they act with each of the actions:

A medication

When you give the signal, the children with the cards with baby action instructions.
They will start to act and the other 4 children will be like the 'parents', running to the table.
and each will take a card.

The idea is that the 'parent' children who took the cards from the table identify the
needs of the 'baby' children, and approach them to provide a solution. For example,
the 'father' child with the card with the bottle must approach the 'baby' child who is crying
because they are hungry. The children who first identify the need win.

2. BIBLE STUDY – Analyze:

In the world, there are good people and bad people; it is normal for us to love the good ones and
we reject the wicked. But in this teaching, Jesus tells us something different; that
let us also love those who hurt us. Why did Jesus say that? Let's read together the
history and let's answer this question.
2nd Station: Galilee
Apply the teachings of Jesus to live our freedom well

Read together the text of Matthew 5:43-48 and invite the children to respond to the following:
Who are our enemies?

What happens when you attack one of your enemies? (Wait for the next response:
He responds to me, he attacks me again)

What would happen if instead of attacking, you ignored your enemy? (You wouldn't have
problems with him; explains: If you do not attack your enemies, it is very likely that they
don't attack you)

What would happen if instead of attacking your enemies, you did something good for them? (Sure
that will also do something good for me; explains: If you do something good for the one who
attack, it is very likely that they will stop being enemies)

3. EXPLANATION:

Ask the following questions and explain each question based on the ideas that the
children give:
What is easier, to love a friend or an enemy? (It's easier to love a friend)

What is more beneficial for us: to keep the same friends or to make new ones?
friends? (It's better to make new friends)

What is better: to fight with enemies or to turn them into our friends? (It is
better to turn our enemies into friends)

Make sure the children understand why it is good to love one's enemies, instead of
hate them.

4. CONCLUSION - Questions:
Why did Jesus teach us to love our enemies?
What should we do with our enemies, if we are children of God?

Why do you think Jesus encourages us to continue with his yoke?
Why is Jesus' yoke different?

Assume the mission of sharing God's message

3. EXPLANATION:
The yoke that Jesus asks us to bear is light for two reasons:
Because God always walks with us and helps us bear that yoke.
Because the yoke means the mission that Jesus has given us, and that mission is not a
load more, it is an effort that will make us better people, and will allow us to help
the others.
Many times while fulfilling the mission (bearing the yoke), we get tired. That means
to say that in our lives, there are always problems that prevent us from continuing to fulfill
the mission, those problems seem like a heavy suitcase.
Teach the children that the game we play at the beginning of class symbolizes
our life. We can have burdens that are everyday problems (try to
list the burdens that children face, such as: lack of money, illnesses, fights,
etc.; and remind them of the importance of finding in God someone who can give us
strength to continue).

2. BIBLE STUDY - Drawings:

- Remember that last week we saw that Jesus forgave us, that it was
sacrificed to forgive our sins. Today we will see another story of Jesus, in
the one he forgives to a friend.

Hand the worksheets to the children and explain: I will read some passages from the
Bible, every time you appear you will have to draw what you have heard.
Start the story and give them time to draw each time you finish a part.
Matthew 26: 33-35 Matthew 26:69-70
Matthew 26: 71-72 Matthew 26: 73-74
Matthew 26:75
5th Station: Golgotha
To experience the freedom that Jesus gives us through his death

Pause for a moment in the story and ask the children: how would Jesus feel?
when your friend, with whom you had shared for three years, said that about him?, why
Did Peter say that? And finally, do you believe that Jesus forgave him?

Let's see what Jesus did a few days later, read John 21:15 and invite the children to
draw the final scene.

Question: Did Jesus forgive him? (yes) Why? (because they were friends, because Peter
he was wrong, because Jesus knew that Peter loved him) Did Peter feel bad
For what he did, how did he show it? (He cried when he realized his mistake)

3. EXPLANATION:
He teaches us that we can and must forgive our friends, because
sometimes they fail, but that doesn't mean they do it with the intention to hurt. Sometimes
our friends say or do things that really hurt us but for the sake of the
We must clarify things, not be proud, but rather be forgiving. Peter
he denied Jesus out of fear of being killed, but when he realized his mistake, he cried,
that means he did love Jesus.

4.APPLICATION:
Ask the children: What did Jesus do to get close to Peter, after he...
Did he betray? (he talked to her)

Explain: now each of you is going to think of ways in which you can
show the pardon to your friends, I will write down every idea you say on the board.
Some ideas may be the following:
Talk about the problem
Invite the friend over to play
Invite a friend to eat something
Tell him: I forgive you, I know you didn't mean to hurt me, but you hurt me and I hope that
don't do it again

Children should think about whether they are angry with any friend who has offended them,
then invite them to pray for them and that throughout the week they can reach out to
that friend and give him the worksheet, also tell him: I know we are friends and I

1. INTRODUCTION - Games:
You are going to create a game of expressions where all the children can explore the
different emotions that humans have. You must prepare them on paper plates or in
circular pieces of cardstock the different faces that express emotions, such as:
fear, joy, surprise, anguish, tears, anger, doubt, etc.
give a welcome
You must tell a story where they can notice different emotions, that...
they will be shown while you narrate. The story can be any, invented or already
established, the idea is that when you mention the word that defines an emotion, the
child holding the plate or card with the face that matches the emotion
mentioned can lift it up for the rest to see. An example of a story could
to pray
Yesterday was a rainy and sad day (here they lift their sad little face), and Camilita

The idea of the dynamic is to understand that every human being has emotions, that Jesus
she also had them, that’s why she understands us in everything we feel.

3.EXPLANATION:
Teach the children about the humanity of Jesus, who, like them, must have
expressed his emotions throughout his life. Especially at a very special moment:
When he went to pray on a mountain called Gethsemane. This moment was special because it was
before going to the cross, history tells us that Jesus expressed being:
- Sad and distressed, (Matthew 26:37) because he knew that his hour of death was near and
that his friends had not completely understood what he had asked them,
they would fulfill the mission. For that reason, he became deeply saddened, he fell to the ground to
to pray asking for help from God (Matthew 26:39).

Worried for his own life and for the lives of his disciples, that is why he returns to see.

He was angry because he saw that his disciples had fallen asleep. Then he asked them to
they will not stop praying and that their cry is not only for him; but for themselves, so that

- Hurt, because he didn't want to be alone, that's why he returned for the third time to observe if his
disciples accompanied him and he realizes that they left him alone, that's why his pain
increased when he found himself abandoned by his friends.

Have the children imagine the scene as vividly as they can, try
put them in Jesus' shoes. And ask them, what do they feel?

Not everyone was pleased that Jesus fulfilled his mission, especially because
they believed they were going to lose power, money, or fame. Some believed they would lose power
because people would no longer believe in them. Others would lose money, because Jesus

In those times, punishments were carried out publicly, and everyone watched as Jesus.
