ACTIVITY Preparation of Monocular Microscope, and comparisons of samples with a real microscope
TITLE I build my own functional microscope.

ACTIVITY 1.- Construct a simple microscope with common or low-cost materials.

Materials:
2 simple magnifying glasses of the same size. NOTE: It should be the width of the short cardboard tube.
1 long cardboard tube (paper towel or aluminum)
1 short cardboard tube (Toilet Paper) NOTE: It must be the width of the magnifying glasses.
1 piece of cardboard for the plate, measuring 7cm x 7cm.
1 piece of cardboard or wood for the base, measuring 15cm x 15cm.
2 strips of cardboard to hold the eyepiece tube, measuring 20cm x 3cm.
1 small mirror or, failing that, some reflective surface.
Adhesive tape
A piece of transparent acetate sheet, to cover the stage and eyepiece.
Liquid or hot silicone.
Scissors
A piece of modeling clay.
A lot of care and patience.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREPARATION:


The project will be advanced progressively during the class sessions.

WEEK 3:
Product explanation to the students. Look for the materials on the previous list.

PRODUCT ADVANCE - WEEK 4:


Laboratory practice 1 – Use of the monocular microscope that is in the laboratory. The students bring onion tissue samples to
observe the cells that make it up. Students will also be able to bring samples of lemon leaf, human hair, tiny ant and

PRODUCT ADVANCE - WEEK 5:


Extract the magnifying lenses and place them one on top of the other with tape. Then stick it to the short tube (toilet paper). On the other side of the tube stick.

PRODUCT ADVANCE - WEEK 6:


On a piece of cardboard, draw and cut out a square of 7cm x 7cm for the plate. Make a hole in the center of the plate. Glue a piece of
acetate.
In another piece of cardboard, draw and cut out a square of 15cm x 15cm for the base.
On another piece of cardboard, draw and cut out 2 strips of cardboard measuring 20cm x 3cm to hold the eyepiece tube.
Cover the long tube (of paper towel) with tape.

PRODUCT ADVANCE - WEEK 7


Attach the plate to the column.
Surround the ocular tube with a strip of cardboard and attach it to the column. First use silicone and then cover it with adhesive tape.
We strategically placed the mirror with the modeling clay.
Final adjustments to the microscope. If you want to paint it, you can do so.
PRODUCT ADVANCE - WEEK 8
With the microscope made from recycled materials. The students bring samples of lemon leaf, human hair, tiny ant, and through.

Product presentations in the classroom. Students should explain the parts of the microscope, add a historical fact, and present their
