3.1.2. Storage and maintenance of copper pipe

Transport and storage of the pipe
1. Prevent the pipe from bending or deforming during transport.
2. Seal the openings of the copper tubing with plugs or adhesive tape during storage.
3. Position the coil vertically to avoid deformation due to its own weight.
4. Use a wooden support to ensure that the copper pipe is higher than the floor, so that the
the pipe is dust and water resistant.
5. Take dust and water-proof measures at both ends of the pipe.

Proper sealing of the openings

There are two ways to seal openings:
Seal with a cover or adhesive tape (suitable for short-term storage)
Sealing welding (suitable for long-term storage)
Caution: The openings of the copper pipe must be sealed throughout the construction.

Filled with nitrogen to protect the copper during brass welding
Purpose: To prevent rust from appearing on the inner wall of the copper pipe at high temperatures.
2. Risks of welding without protection:
If sufficient nitrogen is not fed into the refrigerant tube being welded, oxides will be generated in the
internal wall of the copper pipe. These oxides will block the refrigerant system, which will lead to
any type of failures such as compressor burnout or poor cooling efficiency. To avoid
these problems, continuously load nitrogen into the refrigerant line during welding with
bronze, and ensure that the nitrogen passes through the operating point until the welding is complete
and the copper pipe cools completely. The schematic diagram for the nitrogen charging is

6. Important aspects
1) Ensure that the nitrogen pressure is around 3-4 psi during welding.
2) Ensure that the gas is nitrogen; oxygen will easily lead to an explosion, so it is prohibited.
3) Use a pressure reducing valve, and ensure that the charged nitrogen pressure is
approximately 3 psi
4) Select a correct position to charge nitrogen.
5) Ensure that the nitrogen passes through the welding points.
If the pipe between the nitrogen loading position and the welding point is quite long, ensure
that the nitrogen is loaded for enough time to remove all the air from the welding point.
7) After completing the welding, continuously load nitrogen until the pipe cools down.

3.1.5 Pipe cleaning
Copper pipe cleaning
1. Function: Use pressurized gas to wash the pipe (raw material or welded assembly) to remove dust,
garbage and humidity. Solid impurities are difficult to wash, so special attention must be paid to
the protection of the copper pipe during construction.
2. Purpose
Remove the rust dust or the layer of rust from the copper pipe.
2) Help to expel dirt and moisture from the pipe.
3. Risk in case of not washing:
If the solid impurities and the remaining moisture in the pipe could not be effectively removed,
Serious failures can occur, such as ice blockage, earth blockage, or the compressor getting stuck.
Washing procedure
1. Mount the pressure adjustment valve on the nitrogen gas tank. The applied gas must be

The insulating cover (ä) must be greater than 15 mm.
When the outer diameter of the copper pipe (d) is greater than or equal to 5/8 (Φ 15.9 mm), the thickness of
the insulating layer (ä) must be greater than 25/32 in (20 mm).
2. In a hot and humid environment, the recommended value above should be increased once. Note: The
outdoor piping must be protected by a metal cover to reflect sunlight, protect from
rain and air erosion, and prevent damage from external forces or human-caused damage.
6.1.5. Installation and important aspects of insulation construction
1. Example of incorrect operation: The gas pipe and the liquid pipe are insulated together; this causes
that the air conditioning operation is deficient.
2. Example of correct operation:
