HDLoader is a new product that will allow us, with the help of a disk

hard, install our games on this and be able to play without having to enter and
use the game CD/DVD, extending the life of our lens and reducing
greatly the loading times.

What do we need?

To be able to use the HDLoader we need, apart from the program itself, the
following components:

Hard Drive

We need an IDE hard drive (Serial ATA or SCSI will not work for us) of
the capacity that we want. Obviously, as we will install games, and the
most are on DVD, a hard drive of 40GB or higher is recommended (the
the maximum that our PS2 will recognize is 127GB.
The brand and model don't matter, although for total compatibility
we will use a Maxtor hard drive. There are many other hard drives
compatible, inthisyou can find a good list of those who are going
and of those who do not go
Network adapter

The official SONY network adapter will add the connector to our PS2.
necessary to be able to use the hard drive. We can use the European version
the American (which includes a 56k modem in addition to the network connection).
HDLoader is not compatible with the early Japanese PS2s that had a
PCMCIA slot and they used an external hard drive.

Hard Drive Installation

With the PS2 turned off and unplugged, we turn it over and remove the cover of the
Expansion Bay, leaving visible the space where the hard drive will be placed.
Next, we connect the hard drive to the network adapter.

Connected the hard drive and the network adapter, we insert the hard drive into the

accelerate for a while (when we use the hdd it will go at that speed to dissipate
better the extra heat it generates) and the hard drive will make noises, like when
we start a computer

Preparing the Hard Drive for Use

Before we can install our games, we will need to format the hard drive with
a format that HDLoader recognizes.

The first time we launch HDLoader (using its DVD) it will offer us the
possibility of formatting the hard drive if it does not have a
recognizable format.
If we have the drivers and utilities for the SONY hard drive (only in Japan and
United States) installed will not need to be formatted, as it will already have a format
correct, coexisting both things, your HDLoader games and the use of the disk
hard on the games that need it, like Final Fantasy XI.
If we have PS2Linux, the HDLoader will overwrite its partitions, as they are in a
format not supported.

Use of HDLoader

Although our PS2 now has a hard drive, it will continue to function as
always.

If we want to install or play games from the hard drive, we must insert
the HDLoader DVD and run it as if it were an original game.

When we start the HDLoader, the list of games we have will appear.
