Light and Shadow
Light and Shadow
Light and shadow are the basic elements to produce the effect of
Volume in objects.
In the example of Figure A-1, we distinguish two objects with the same shape,
sizes and proportion, however one represents a circle and the other, a
sphere.
The circle has become a two-dimensional element, resembling an element
three-dimensional, with volume.
The difference between the two objects is achieved in this case by the effect of light and
from the shadow.
In the following example, it will be easy to see how the lights and shadows,
these are the drawing elements that give volume and realism, and create the
difference between a flat drawing made with simple lines, and a
artistic drawing with volume.
The first thing to do before applying shadows to the drawings is to paint it.
with the basic colors of it. Then you should imagine a focus of
light to illuminate your drawing. Imagine the focus from any angle of the drawing of
preference on the sides or front (these are the angles that are easiest to work with
my opinion).
In this image we have a candle as the light source, illuminating the drawing (the
the ball) from left to right. Note that in the parts where the ball receives
a greater lighting is in the parts where we use the lighter shades of
gray. In the areas where there is little light in the drawing (the part opposite to
(candle lighting) we used a darker shade of gray. In the middle of
In drawing, we have what we call 'Half light', in this part we use the base color.
(that more predominant gray) that will mediate the lighter tone
(white) to the darkest (black), or bright light to shadow.
