Double Dragon International Reiki School

Short explanation for

Orca Reiki

Explanation written by
Jens Söeborg
System founder
Korey Long
I have two attunements directly from Korey Long – they are Orca Reiki and Tiger Reiki.
Stephanie Brail has made a nice manual for Tiger Reiki, I have found non for Orca Reiki, so I
just put in a few words about this attunement, which I personally found more powerful that
the one for Tiger Reiki.

Orca Reiki has nothing to do with Dolphin Trilogy Reiki, even though it also includes the
Orca. Dolphin Trilogy Reiki includes Orca Empowerment Reiki, but the co-founders of that
system are Shanti Johnson, who made Dolphin Reiki and Dolphin Healing Reiki together
with Rev. Sheryl “Rain” Carter, who made Orca Empowerment Reiki. You can off cause use
most of the meditations and techniques from Dolphin Trilogy Reiki in Orca Reiki as well.

Something about the Orca

The Orca is – I think wrongly - called “Killer Whale”. It belongs to the
family of dolphins and is really the biggest dolphin. In southern part of
Denmark, where I live, we have only porpoise, which are very similar to
the dolphins group. I write “southern part of Denmark, because Greenland
is a part of Denmark, even though they have their own flag and
government - something similar to another state in US.

Orcas grow to be about 27-33 feet (8-10 m) long, weighing more than 8,000-12,000 pounds
(3.600-5.400 kg). The male orca is normally larger than the female. The Orca's skin is mostly
black with distinctive white patches. Orcas have stocky bodies and a rounded head with a
distinctive beak. They have a tall, falcate (sickle-shaped) dorsal fin and large, paddle-like
flippers.

The Orca is a toothed whale that is an efficient predator, even attacking huge young blue
whales. Their only enemies are us human beings. Orcas eat a diverse diet of fish, squid,
sharks, marine mammals, turtles, octopi, and birds (penguins and seagulls). They have even
been known to attack young blue whales and other large whales.

Orcas live in small, close-knit, life-long pods of 6-40 whales;

they are very social animals. The bonds between the close-knit
members of Orca pods are strong and last for life. The members
of a pod hunt together in a very sophisticated manner, attacking
even very large prey and then sharing it. The pod members
protect the young, the sick and the injured. An average-sized
orca will eat 551 pounds (250 kg) of food a day.

Orcas can dive to a depth of 100 feet (30 m) in order to hunt. Orcas commonly breach (swim
at very fast speeds toward the surface in order to rise above the surface of the water and then
fall back onto the surface, splashing and making noise). Spyhopping (poking the head out of
the water to look around – like on the front page) and tail slapping are also common orca
activities.
If you want to learn more about Dolphins and Orcas, then I have found this description for
Dolphin Trilogy Reiki. The founders of Dolphin Trilogy Reiki have also made some very nice
follow ups for Huna Reiki – among others Aloha Reiki (Shanti Johnson), KaHuna Reiki
(Shanti Johnson, Kapuna Healing (Shari Carter) and Uhane Nui Reiki (Shanti Johnson) .

Porpoise – not quite a dolphin
Dolphins and porpoises both belong to the suborder “Odontoceti” – tooth whales. Members
of this order possess teeth and a single blowhole. Odontocetes also possess bilaterally
asymmetrical skulls that often support a well developed melon, or bulbous forehead. Most
odontocetes are more social than other groups of whales and use echo for navigation.

These similarities often lead to a misconception

about the two odontocetes. Although the terms
"dolphin" and "porpoise" are often used
interchangeably, they describe two different
groups of cetaceans. Dolphins belong to the
family “Delphinidae”, while porpoises belong to
the family “Phocoenidae”. Many external
characteristics exist that are useful in distin-
guishing between these two families. For
example, the extended beak present in most
delphinids is absent in most phocoenids. Simi-
larly, most porpoises lack a melon, while the
bulbous forehead is often observed by dolphins.
When you look at the picture, you can see that
the porpoise looks more like an orca than like most of the Dolphins.

Porpoise
Porpoise Evolution
Whales, dolphins and porpoises all belong to the Order Cetacea. This title was derived from
the Latin term cetus, meaning large sea animal, and the Greek term ketos, meaning sea
monster. Along with bats, Cetaceans are some of the most derived animals in existence.
Although the origin of modern cetaceans is not fully understood, it is believed that terrestrial
animals, of the Suborder Mesonychia, may have given rise to modern cetaceans, as they
colonized the sea in the Paleocene, roughly 60 million years ago. Fossils that are
recognizable as Cetaceans have been found in rock strata dating back to the early Middle
Eocene, roughly 50 million years ago. These fossils represent elongated quatic animals, of
the Suborder Archaeoceti, which, with reduced hindlimbs and a small beak, resembled
modern snakes or eels. During the Oligocene, roughly 38 million years ago, these ancient
aquatic animals began to decline in abundance and were replace by the present day
Suborders Odontoceti and Mysteceti.

Although both dolphins and porpoises are

related to the squalodonts, or earliest true
toothed whales, and the kentridontids, or
ancestral dolphins, porpoises have been distinct
from their dolphin relatives for approximately
11 million years. The geographic distribution of
porpoise fossils suggests that they originated in
the North Pacific and later spread to the
Atlantic and southern waters.
