TITLE: WINGS - MAIN STRUCTURE - INSPECTION OF BONDING AT CENTER


TANK LOWER PANEL ASSY FR41/42

MODIFICATIONS

None

REASON/DESCRIPTION/OPERATIONAL CONSEQUENCES

In Final Assembly Line (FAL), 4 bondings have been performed too deep on the center tank lower
panel assy. Before delivery, the following repairs were performed:

- spotfaced edges blended out smoothly to obtain gradual transition

- restoration of surface

- bondings and tests performed as per drawing requirements

- Non-Destructive Test (NDT) High Frequency (HF)/Low Frequency (LF) performed: no indication of
crack found.

Structural analysis are showing a possibility that findings could be encountered before reaching the
Design Service Goal. Therefore, a specific maintenance task is necessary.

Inspections of the area will ensure safe operations of the aircraft. In case of finding, specific repairs will
be proposed.

C. REASON

(1) History

E. COMPLIANCE

(1) Classification

RECOMMENDED: Service Bulletin recommended to be accomplished to prevent


significant operational disruptions.

(2) Accomplishment Timescale

This Service Bulletin has been classified Recommended. It is expected that an


Airworthiness Directive (AD) published by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA)
will be issued to change this classification to Mandatory. It is anticipated that the AD will
confirm the thresholds and intervals given but reference should be made to the AD for
confirmation of the mandated accomplishment timescale.

3. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS

Task 571189-832-801-001 - Inspection of Holes at Center Tank Lower Panel Assy FR 41/42
on LH and RH sides

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT YOU OBEY ALL THE WARNINGS AND ALL THE CAUTIONS
INCLUDED IN THE REFERENCED PROCEDURES.

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE FUEL SUPPLY HOSE IS CORRECTLY CONNECTED
TO THE COUPLING BEFORE YOU REFUEL/DEFUEL THE AIRCRAFT. DO NOT
CONNECT THE FUEL SUPPLY HOSE IF THERE ARE SIGNS OF DAMAGE TO
THE AIRCRAFT COUPLING LUGS OR SLOTS.

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO THE REFUEL PANEL TEST BEFORE OR DURING
THE REFUEL PROCEDURE. DEFECTIVE HIGH-LEVEL SENSORS CAN CAUSE
FUEL TO SPILL OVERBOARD. MAKE SURE THAT YOU COMPLETE THE
REFUEL PANEL TEST BEFORE THE FUEL TANK IS 70 PERCENT FULL.

WARNING: YOU MUST WEAR SAFETY BREATHING EQUIPMENT WHEN YOU DO WORK
IN A FUEL TANK. THE TANKS CAN CONTAIN AIR FROM THE TANK INERTING
SYSTEM. AIR FROM THIS SYSTEM HAS A LOW-OXYGEN CONTENT AND CAN
CAUSE INJURY AND DEATH.

WARNING: BEFORE YOU DO WORK IN OR NEAR A FUEL TANK, MAKE SURE THAT YOU
OBEY ALL THE SAFETY PROCEDURES. THIS WILL PREVENT INJURY TO
PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.

CAUTION: ALWAYS OBEY THE PRECAUTIONS THAT FOLLOW TO KEEP


ELECTRICAL WIRING IN A SATISFACTORY CONDITION (ELECTRICALLY
AND MECHANICALLY SERVICEABLE). WHEN YOU DO MAINTENANCE
WORK, REPAIRS OR MODIFICATIONS, ALWAYS KEEP ELECTRICAL WIRING,
COMPONENTS AND THE WORK AREA AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE. TO DO
THIS:

- PUT PROTECTION, SUCH AS PLASTIC SHEETING, CLOTHS, ETC; AS


NECESSARY ON WIRING AND COMPONENTS.

- REGULARLY REMOVE ALL SHAVINGS, UNWANTED MATERIAL AND


OTHER CONTAMINATION.

THESE PRECAUTIONS WILL DECREASE THE RISK OF CONTAMINATION


AND DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL WIRING INSTALLATION.

IF THERE IS CONTAMINATION, REFER TO ESPM 20-55-00.

NOTE: The accomplishment instructions of this Service Bulletin include procedures given
in other documents or in other sections of the Service Bulletin. When the words
"refer to" are used and the operator has a procedure accepted by the local
authority he belongs to, the accepted alternative procedure can be used. When the

technical intent of the Service Bulletin is met within the set parameters.

(e) To torque tighten the standard threaded fasteners, refer to AMM Task
20-21-11-911-001.

(f) Apply sealant in accordance with SRM 51-24-00.

(g) Remove and install fasteners in accordance with SRM 51-42-00.

(h) Obtain alternative and substitute fastener data in accordance with SRM 51-43-00.

(i) If alternative and substitute fasteners have to be used, you must make sure that the
associated nut/collar are compatible in accordance with SRM 51-40-00 "Mating
Part" column.

(j) If the length of any fastener specified in this Service Bulletin does not meet
installation standards given in SRM Chapter 51, then a fastener of the same
specification, or an approved substitute, with a length which meets the installation
standards given in SRM Chapter 51 may be used. In addition, washers may be
installed for fastener grip length in accordance with SRM Chapter 51.

(k) Renew the protective finish in accordance with SRM 51-75-12.
