The history of humankind is a long story of human evolution, beginning with shared ancestors with apes millions of years

ago and leading to the

development of Homo sapiens (modern humans) approximately 315,000 years ago in Africa. Early hominins like Australopithecus and
other Homo species evolved, eventually spreading from Africa across the globe within the last few million years. The development of agriculture and
civilizations occurred much later, in the past 12,000 years.
This video explains the evolutionary journey from early apes to modern humans:

A Timeline of Human Evolution

Ancient Apes (Millions of Years Ago):

The lineage of humans separated from other apes millions of years ago.

Early Hominins (Ardipithecus, Australopithecus, Homo habilis, Homo erectus):

A series of now-extinct hominin species existed for millions of years, with early humans (hominins) first migrating out of Africa about 2 million years
ago.

Homo sapiens (Modern Humans):

Our species, Homo sapiens, likely evolved in Africa around 315,000 years ago.

Global Dispersal:

Modern humans spread to other parts of the world, with populations reaching Australia within the last 60,000 years and the Americas within the last
30,000 years.

Agriculture and Civilizations:

The emergence of agriculture and the rise of the first complex civilizations is a relatively recent development, occurring within the last 12,000 years.

Key Characteristics of Homo sapiens

We are an upright-walking, culture-bearing species.

We are the only surviving member of the human tribe, Hominini.

We coexisted for a time with other members of our genus, such as Homo neanderthalensis.
This evolutionary journey, while still being explored through the study of fossils and ancient DNA, shows a long and complex development from our
primate ancestors to the unique species we are today.
