APA Research Paper: Covid 19 on Education
Introduction
Many educational institutions have had to shut their doors as a result of Covid-19.
Education has been temporarily suspended across the world as a result of pandemic precautions
taken by governments. This year's outbreak of COVID-19 has struck devastation around the
globe, and education has taken an especially heavy toll. Students, professors, and institutions
have all suffered as a result of this situation. One out of every five kids is unable to attend
school, and one in every four students is unable to attend college, according to research as of this
writing, affecting over 800 million students worldwide. It is estimated that 1,6 billion children
have been adversely affected by the closures. More than half of the world's countries have closed
their schools on a nationwide level. Lockdowns have been implemented to deal with COVID-19,
which has disturbed regular learning (Tadesse & Muluye, 2020). Traditional methods of teaching
must be supplemented with online, radio, and television materials in order for pupils to learn
effectively. Since none of these instructors had anticipated the rapid changes in educational
delivery, they had to learn how to make adjustments. Thus, COVID-19 will be examined in
terms of its impact on education and students in general.
Impacts of Covid in Schools
Many schools throughout the world had to close because of the COVID-19 outbreak. As
a direct result, both academic ambitions and employment goals for the future have been
significantly hampered. As a result of global efforts to regulate and restrict COVID19, a number
of schools were forced to close around the world. According to the conclusions of a research, the
shutting of schools in more than one hundred nations has affected almost half of the global
student population. As an example, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, who first
3
opposed the concept of shutting schools, later acknowledged that doing so would help reduce the
number of COVID-19 infections. When schools close, they have a significant influence on the
community's economy, social fiber, and educational environment (Rizun & Strzelecki, 2020).
However, the aforementioned expenses have significant repercussions for the most defenseless
members of society and their families. COVID-19 may disrupt the educational system for a
longer amount of time than originally expected since a more dependable technique of containing
the pandemic has not yet been developed. If the COVID-19 virus continues to spread at its
current rate, schools will be shuttered indefinitely.
Researchers have used a number of methods to show how the epidemic has affected
schools. For example, if schools are closed for a lengthy period of time, students' grades and
motivation may deteriorate. School closings give pupils more opportunity to engage in criminal
activities, which lowers their grades and diminishes their interest in learning. According to the
US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more students may be compelled to drop out of
school if schools are closed for a prolonged length of time (CDC). It's no secret that school
closings are divisive and have a significant impact on a large number of students. Consequently,
students with special needs or learning difficulties who require teachers to give physical
monitoring and attention may have setbacks in terms of academic achievement and the quality of
their educational experience (Aristovnik et al., 2020).
Technology in Education
Educational institutions have utilized cutting-edge technologies to assist pupils moving
forward. The COVID19 epidemic increased the global demand for online education. Thanks to
technology advancements, young people will be able to learn from any location, even if they do
not attend school. COVID-19 offers a significant challenge to global education, and electronic
4
learning platforms have becoming prevalent. Since the shutting of institutions, technology has
become an integral feature of student-instructor contact and involvement. Thanks to technology
improvements, educators, parents, and children now have access to a range of materials in the
event of a pandemic. The spread of COVID-19 is attributable to testing and reporting
technologies as well as social distance.
It's tough for millennials to stay at home all day since they're so interested and always on
the go. As a result, classroom boredom and general productivity are reduced as a result of the
dynamic and engaged learning environment created by technology. Prior to the outbreak of the
pandemic, educational institutions that were already deploying cutting-edge technology had an
advantage. Teachers and students alike have to adapt their teaching strategies as a result of the
closure of schools. Students in nations with poor infrastructure for remote learning have not
profited from the transition to online education (Rizun & Strzelecki, 2020). The efforts of the
school system to bridge the digital gap have a disproportionate effect on rural children. Many
instructors and students who wish to engage in online education may be hindered by their lack of
digital literacy. Due of the epidemic, a number of schools were forced to close. Nevertheless,
technology plays a significant role in closing the educational inequalities.
Online Learning
It is impossible to exaggerate the importance of technology in modern classrooms.
Traditional teaching techniques have been replaced by newer, more technologically savvy
approaches. Because of technological advancements in education, teachers may now serve as
mentors, coaches, and facilitators to their pupils. With today's technology, distance, virtual, and
remote learning are all available. For students, digital education has become their primary mode
of instruction. Teachers and school administrators are finding it increasingly difficult to use
5
online learning because of a pandemic. Effective educational technology is needed if you want
students to have access to online learning resources like the internet and a variety of instructional
techniques (Osman, 2020). Online learning may be supported by a wide range of technical
platforms and apps, according to the findings of this study. The level of success that may be
achieved through online education is impacted by a variety of factors, including a student's level
of technological expertise, their connection to the internet, as well as their computer's hardware
and To effectively spread awareness of the benefits of online education, it is vital to make use of
a platform such as this one.
Conclusion
There are severe consequences for educational possibilities if schools are shut down
because to the COVID-19 outbreak, according to this study. Many schools were compelled to
close to avoid the spread of COVID-19, resulting in the absence of millions of youngsters from
their typical educational contexts. Closing schools will affect parents, educators, students, and
other members of the education community. The study examined how the incorporation of
technology into the educational system enabled students to maintain their academic performance
while absent from school. In the future, schools may be compelled to close owing to pandemics
or other factors. In addition to traditional classroom training, students also have the option of
enrolling in online courses. Some students have difficulty learning online because they lack the
necessary technical tools, such as computers and the internet, which would make it easier for
them to do so. The educational system is now prepared for the advent of another epidemic as a
result of this event.
