Tutorial 2 Biotech

This tutorial sheet contains various exercises related to probability and statistics, including calculations of mean, median, and mode for different data sets. It also includes problems on finding missing frequencies, correcting averages, and demonstrating statistical properties. The exercises cover both individual data points and frequency distributions.

Tutorial Sheet 2

Probability and Statistics (15B11MA302)

1. Find the mean, median and mode for the sets.

(a) 3, 5, 2, 6, 5, 9, 5, 2, 8, 6 (b) 51.6, 48.7, 50.3, 49.5, 48.7

2 . Find the mean, median and mode of the following data:

Marks 10-20 20-30 30-40 40-50 50-60 60-70 70-80 80-90 90-100
No of 15 20 32 22 55 30 15 8 3
Student

3 . An incomplete distribution is given below;

X 0-10 10-20 20-30 30-40 40-50 50-60 60-70
f 10 20 ? 40 ? 25 15
You are given median value is 35. Find out missing frequency. (Given the total frequency=170)

4 Calculate the median value of the following variables on the basis of the following frequency
distribution:
Variable: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
Frequency: 1 4 12 9 2 1 1

5 Show that algebraic sum of the deviations of a set of values from their arithmetic mean is zero

6 By changing classes in exclusive form calculate the mean, median, mode of the following frequency
distribution.
Age (in years): 11-15 16-20 21-25 26-30 31-35 36-40
No of persons: 3 5 6 9 10 7

7 Find the missing frequency for the following data when the mode is 36.7 and sum of frequencies is 38.
Class: 0-10 10-20 20-30 30-40 40-50 50-60
Frequency: 6 5 f1 9 f2 3

8. Average marks in mathematics of 10 students of a class was 68. A new student took admission with 72
marks whereas two existing student left the school. If the marks of these student were 40 and 39, find the
average marks of the class.

9. There are 60 students in a class of which 40 boys and rest girls. The average weight of class is 45kg
and average weight of girls is 40 kg. It was observed that weights of two boys were taken wrong as 42
and 50 kg while the corrected weights are 46 and 40 kg. Find the corrected mean of the class.

10. The average daily wage of all workers in a factory is Rs 444. If the average wages paid to male and
female workers are Rs. 480 and Rs 360 respectively, find the percentage of male and female workers
employed by the factory.
