SolBridge Mission & Course Objectives


The prime goal of the course is to deliver the promise of SolBridge. SolBridge has the mission of
educating the next generation of Asian Thought leaders. The school aims to instill in our graduates a
Global Perspective, Asian Expertise, Creative Management Foundation, Cross Cultural Competence and
a sense of social responsibility.

The objectives of this course are:

• To prepare students for Chinese conversation program at SolBridge. SolBridge has the mission of
educating the next generation of Asian Thought leaders. That mission includes knowledge of
Chinese language.
• To instruct students to get involved in Chinese conversation. Students will learn how to
introduce themselves, how to purchase products, order food, and other functional and familiar
topics.
• To help students Help students transition from junior and middle-level Chinese learners to high-
level learners.

Learning Outcomes
Following successful completion of the course, the participant would be able to:
• CO 1: remember basic vocabulary, grammar, and expression. (Remembering)
• CO 2: understand the usage of vocabulary, understanding the meaning of each grammar, and
common expressions in the conversation. (Understanding)

Teaching Methodology
Please provide a brief overview of the pedagogy and expectations from the students.

The course will be implemented as a combination of lectures, discussions, as well as individual and
group assignments. Attendance and full participation in the Reading, Writing, and Communication
Study Groups will be required for consideration for completion of this course.

The course will be conducted using a variety of in-class handouts and multimedia tools designed to
challenge students and provide practical skill development through guided discovery and practice.

Assessment Method & Grading

Attendance (20%)
Attendance is required. Students are expected to be online or come to the classroom on time.
Repeated lateness or leaving classes than expected will be treated as absence. If anyone who missed
one-third of the whole class hours, she or he will automatically get an “F” according to the school
regulations.

Participation and Assignments (20%)


Students are required to participate in class activities. And active participation in classes will be
encouraged with extra points. During the semester, students will be asked to finish two assignments at
least based on class progress. Please submit each assignment to the LMS before the deadline. Note
that the file format is usually Word or PDF:
(a) Include the course name, your student ID number, your name and the assignment order.

Assignments will be evaluated according to each of the following criteria:
(a) Fulfillment of the assignment’s objectives
(b) Application of relevant skills
(c) Originality and creativity
(d) Neat presentation

Midterm Examination (20%)


The midterm examination is tentatively scheduled on the eighth week. The examination will be for 90
minutes and cover class material from the previous few days. The instructor will announce the format
of the examination in class one week prior to midterm test date. The midterm examination carries a
weight of 20% of the assessment.

The final examination is tentatively scheduled on the last week. It will cover class material from the
half semester. The instructor will announce the format of the examination in class one week prior to
test date. The final term examination carries a weight of 40%.

Academic Integrity & Conduct


Academic integrity and honesty are fundamental to the values of our institution. Academic misconduct
by students negatively affects both our academic reputation & quality and our students’ learning
experience & progress (academic and career). Thus, SolBridge pays utmost importance to academic
integrity and honesty and expects all the students to maintain academic integrity in all their academic
endeavors.

Academic Dishonesty
Academic dishonesty includes but not limited to: (a) plagiarism, (b) cheating during examinations, (c)
obtaining/ providing information for reports, assignments and examinations by fraudulent means, (d)
falsification of information or data, and (e) false representation of others’ effort as one’s own.

Some examples of academic dishonesty are: copying from other students during examinations;
obtaining or using unauthorized information, material, or assistance in quizzes, exams or any academic
assignment; copying material from other students’ reports/ assignments and submitting the same as
one’s own report; creating fictitious interview materials for assignments or reports. These are just a few
examples and not exhaustive. Any kind of cheating

Plagiarism
SolBridge considers plagiarism as a serious breach of professional ethics. Plagiarism will not be
tolerated in any form at SolBridge. Penalties can be as severe as expulsion from the university. To avoid
plagiarism, it always best to do your own work or cite the work of others appropriate. Refer to your
student handbook for a more detailed description of plagiarism and the associated penalties.

Copying Textbooks & copyrighted materials


Copying Textbooks and other copyrighted materials without permission of publisher or author is
tantamount to theft. Therefore, students are expected to purchase the prescribed books and other
materials from the Woosong Bookstore or from other legal sellers.
• Students using copied versions of books without permission will be asked to leave the classroom.
• In addition, such students will get “zero” participation points and any other penalties as levied by
the instructor.

The rules for any act of academic dishonesty including plagiarism and copyright violations are:

1. The first instance or the act will result in a “zero” for the assignment or the assessment in
question, and a report will be filed with the disciplinary committee. Further actions may be
taken by the disciplinary committee.
2. The second instance or the act will result in a ‘fail’ grade for the entire course, and a report will
be filed with the disciplinary committee. Further actions may be taken by the disciplinary
committee.
3. The third cumulative instance or act will result in institutional-level disciplinary action which
could include expulsion from the school.
