COURSE REGISTRATION GUIDE

NB: This Course Registration Guide (organized in 7 notes) contains only a summary of key
information regarding your course registration for the semester. You are therefore encouraged to
read the course registration section of the Ashesi Student Handbook for further details.

Note 1: Enroll in your courses, even if you haven’t paid your fees, to secure a place in the class. Your
name will, however, not be available in the lecturer’s class list nor visible on your schedule in CAMU
until your courses have been approved. Course enrollments will be approved based on payment of
fees, in accordance with your payment plan. If your enrollment requests remain unapproved by the
second day of classes even after you have made the required payment for the semester, kindly
complete the fee payment receipt section of the Issue Reporting Form (IRF) by uploading a clear
and valid receipt as evidence of payment. Once this is done, the Registry will quickly work with the
Finance Department to validate and subsequently approve you into your courses.

Note 2: All students should ensure that they have registered for their core/major courses and
electives bearing in mind that once a particular class is full, the Registry would expect students to
enroll in available course sections or choose another elective if their preferred elective course is full.

Note 3: CAMU will not allow you to register for certain courses that have prerequisites you have not
yet met. You will therefore be allowed into such courses only after you have met the prerequisites
(the passing grade for the prerequisite course must have been published to your transcript), or you
petition for a waiver of the prerequisite(s) and it is granted. Please note that receiving a waiver to take
a course does not mean that you are not required to take and pass the waived prerequisite course.
You can only graduate if you complete all courses required for your program and obtain the minimum
grade for each.

Note 4: You will not see courses you have taken previously on the enrollment portal. If you wish to
retake a course, kindly indicate so using the IRF. As stated in the Ashesi Student Handbook, "A
student may repeat a course only if the grade on record is D+, D or E. Students who retake a
course without meeting the stated requirement will forfeit the most recent grade obtained for
the course."

Note 5: Unless allowed on Camu, a maximum of 4 or 4.5 units is expected from all
student course registrations for the semester. Those who wish to take an extra course should note
that the Academic Registry will not countenance total units exceeding 5.5 for the semester, and
approvals will be given based on meeting the previous semester or cumulative GPA of 3.3 or better
requirement. See the Ashesi Student Handbook for further details. Also, you cannot register for an
extra course if you do not meet this minimum GPA/CGPA requirement unless you submit a petition
for extra course addition, and it is granted.

Note 6: By the end of Year IV (and to be able to graduate), you ought to have taken and passed
all required courses based on your major, including the required minimum number of Non-Major
electives (which must include at least one Africana elective) and Major electives. Please take the
time to review your degree program requirements to ensure you are on track. If unsure, kindly check
with your HOD.
NOTE 7: You cannot get credit for each of the following pairs of courses, as they are mutually
exclusive. You should be guided by this when registering for courses.

1. A student who has already taken IS Project Management cannot get credit for the BA Project
Management course or the Engineering Project Management and Professional Practice
course and vice versa.
2. A student who has already taken Principles of Economics cannot get credit for
