The Rain (Summary)

This poem is written by W.H Davies who is a great lover of nature. In this poem the poet
describes about the beautiful scene of rain falling. He says that the rain falls on the top leaves
of trees first. After drinking water the top leaves of the tree deliver water to the lower leaves
drop by drop. The poet symbolizes the top leaves as rich people who enjoy all the facilities of
life. The rich people give very little to the poor. Therefore, the poet feels it painful.
The poet hopes that one day, equality shall rule the world. He hopes when the rain will stop
and the sun will come out from the clouds. It will shine brightly and will give equal light to
the top leaves and lower leaves. He says it will be a lovely sight to watch.
“I hope the sun shines bright;
It will be a lovely sight”
Hence, the sun is a symbol of joy and hope. There is a pleasure after sorrow and misery.
Time does not remain the same. The change from rain to sunlight is the change from misery
to happiness.

Try Again (Summary)

The poem “Try Again” is written by W.E Hickson. This poem teaches us a great lesson. It
urges us to work hard continuously. The poet says that we should not lose heart if we do not
succeed in our first attempt. This act will make us courageous and then will be firm. We
should try again without fear of failure and we will succeed.
“People do not fail, they just stop trying.”
The poet says that if if we fail in our first or second attempt, we should not feel it as a
disgrace. We should try again and again like the spider of King Bruce succeed. If we want to
win a race we should try again and again. This is the only way to succeed. The poet says that
if we find our task hard we should face it with courage because it will bring reward for us.
We should try again with patience in our work. We should be determined and steadfast. This
is the way to get success. We should keep in view, the rule, try again.

Peace (Summary)
This Poem is written by Dr. Hartmann. The poem is about the dual nature of wind. The poet
says that every force of nature has two sides. One is horrible and destructive; the other is
gentle and beautiful. Wind is described as a monster of destruction. It roars like a lion. It
breaks all the wonderful works of men into pieces. It comes from the valleys and vales. It
smashes everything .Everything that comes in its way, it spins it, breaks it and throws it
away.
“And sends them spinning,
Broken flying”

But nature has another aspect also. Wind is very lovable with the nature and men. It brings
eternal peace for men. When the wind is gentle and cool it gives life to buds, birds and
humans. It is the wind which spreads blue colour in the sky. The whispers of the wind may be
at a distance but we can hear them. Although these whispers are unimportant but it enriches
the world with beauty.
