Day 2 - Typing and Word Processing (Form 5 Holiday Class)

Total Duration

2 Hours

- Theory: 30 minutes

- Practice: 1 hour 30 minutes

1. Theory (30 Minutes)

Typing is the act of entering text using a keyboard. It's a key skill for using computers.

Importance of Typing:

- Speeds up work

- Improves productivity

- Reduces errors

- Needed in all careers

Typing Techniques:

- Sit upright and comfortably

- Place fingers on the home row keys:

Left: A S D F | Right: J K L ;

- Eyes on the screen

- Use all fingers, not just two

Word Processing:

- Using software to type and edit text (Word, Google Docs)

- Used for letters, reports, CVs, etc.

2. Practical Session (1 Hour 30 Minutes)

Tools: Microsoft Word or Google Docs; TypingClub/[Link] (optional)

PART A: Typing Practice (30 mins):

- Type:
Day 2 - Typing and Word Processing (Form 5 Holiday Class)

- The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

- All students should keep their fingers on the home row.

- Practice makes perfect.

- Set 10-min typing challenges

PART B: Word Processing Basics (1 Hour):

- Open Word

- Type:

Title: My First Word Document

This is my first practice using Microsoft Word. I am learning how to type correctly and use basic formatting.

- Format:

- Make title bold and centered

- Change font and size

- Save as typing_practice_fullname.docx

3. Wrap-Up

Ask students:

- What is the home row?

- Why should you use all fingers when typing?

- What is a word processor?

Encourage continued typing practice at home.
